SoSubiZ
This may be a stupid question because I thought all 95 were obd1, after doing some research I here some people saying the imperezas were obd1 but the legos are obd2. I ask because there is a good deal on a 1995 near me, But I much prefer working on obd2 cars. who has a 1995 and can answer this for me.
Baddog
Pretty good chance since it's a leggy it's OBD2. 95 Impreza 2.2s were OBD2 but the 1.8's were OBD1

SoSubiZ
alright. So who knows about the 1994 than? thats gotta be obd1 right. 1994 is a gen 2? google image has mixed results. I checked autotrader the just to see what comes up. there is a 1994 1st gen? Our site says gen 2 1994-98. ok. so mechanically the 99 is a 3rd gen with a gen 2 body? And the 94 is a 2nd gen with a 1st gen body... Im talking about vin year not manufacturing date in the door jam. these cars....
Zues Marine
were there ever diagnostic plugs for non OBDII vehicles? i'd always assumed if it had the plug, its obd2
SoSubiZ
Ive seen some diag plugs on obd1 cars but different manufactures different plugs. than was told by teachers, work, and other techs that it was universalized for all brands in 1996. I've been told some O'rileys have an obd1 checker.
johnegg
in the US, legacy 90 - 94 = gen 1 95 - 99 = gen 2 but when you visit the outback site, gen 1 = 96 - 99 outback gen 2 = 00 - 04 sop it is always better to quote your year when asking for or giving info. 90 - 94 is obd1 they will ''flash'' diagnostic codes without a reader. fewer codes to display, but it will point you in the right direction. monkeyposeur
My 95 is obd2. I have had to argue with auto part store techs when I needed a code pulled.
SoSubiZ
I've worked at autozone before. the actron code reader we used only goes back to 96 in the vehicle selector screen. There is an auto check mode, but it rarely works on anything pre 2001. I bought the cheapest harbor freight reader. Works no problem with everything but only does engine codes. Setnev
Interesting the 95 is a OBDII. I came from the Ford world and used to work on a lot of Ford Escorts and all of us sought after the 91-95 models because they were OBDI and the plug-in emissions testing couldn't be done so we used to mod the crap out of those and pull the CEL to skate through emissions testing. They were never the wiser.
twisty
doesnt matter here in AZ, they sniff anything before 96. regardless of whether it is obd2 or not.
