csamos
I'm helping out a friend with his '94 Legacy wagon (2.2L NA) that he drove to Austin from San Francisco with a horrible exhaust leak. I just pulled the front half of the exhaust off the car, and the passenger side manifold is broken and just flops around on the output pipe. http://www.samos.org/LegacyExhaust.jpg This is looking into the manifold: http://www.samos.org/ManifoldCrack.jpg This doesn't look very repairable. What are the cheapest options for fixing this? Will I need to find an entire replacement for what I've removed, or is it possible to replace just the broken manifold? Any Austin members here who know about finding good, used exhaust parts? After doing some searching, it looks like this is all one part as shown here: http://www.walkerexhaust.com/catalog/epa-converters/e-catalog-lookup/50508 He'd rather not spend a few hundred dollars on this if possible. So I'm guessing used may be the best option. What other years have the same exhaust? From the diagrams I've looked at, his seems to be a first gen (manufactured in June '93), so will any first gen 2.2L NA exhaust work? Thanks! csamos
Could I cut off the heat shield and have the manifold welded? Would that be a good enough cheap fix for now?
fahr_side
Junkyard, used header. Obligatory 'build thread' Increased capacity to 2.7 liters, still turbo, but no longer need spark plugs. speezly
eBay has knock off borla headers for about 100. I got a set from a junkyard for 50 though, so that's where I would look. The heat shields can come off so you can try to repair it, but the junkyard is the best bet
csamos
I decided to cut off the heat shield and take a look. It looks like someone tried to repair it with JB Weld or something similar. Oy. http://www.samos.org/ExhaustBroken.jpg I took it to a welder who charged me a whopping $25 to repair it. It runs like a champ now!
