gtonstilts
hey guys, a buddy of mine recently got a huge bug catcher for his 02 wrx. so i decided to plop his old scoop on my hood, it was pretty close to the same shape, so i decided to hack it up and mount it atop of my stock scoop to give me a new sporty look. i started by cutting it close to how i wanted it. then riveted it on and sanded it till they were the same shape and even melted together a bit around the edges, then i used some jb weld plastic putty to build up the sides, blend the two together, and smooth the air transition on the inside. then primer, sand, color. i originally planned to remove the rivets at the end of the proces and fill the wholes, but in the end i decided to leave them so i had no worries of it flying off at 100+mph lol. plus they look kind of tough, here are some pics of it along the way and finished nex post will have pics of it installed from multiple angles, i have given it one more sanding and coat of metalic grey since these pics

gtonstilts
Thanks guys glad you approve :-) As for making more to sell I've been tossing the idea around, I would need to pick up some 02 scoops used and use members scoops as a core charge but it's possible. I'll have to see how much interest there is and fig out a fair price
BoozeRS05
I'd prob get in line for one. EB's Subaru journal - 2005 LegacyGT Wagon & 2014 Forester FB25 (2008 specB - RIP) IG@legacygtliving

gtonstilts
Ok guys I checked around to see what it would cost me to craft another scoop like this. The actuall scoop itself for these is pretty pricey 125ish ! So all in all it's close to 200 in materials. With all the labor I'd want 125 for my time. So $325 plus shipping and your oem scoop I know driving around with no scoop looks a bit unfinnished but I had mine out for a week while I messed with this and it ran fine. No change in IATA I'd want to do more than one at a time because of the time for things to dry making it take so long between sanding and coats. So I'd be up for a group buy of 3 for $999+3 oem core scoops (05 fitment) this would include shipping for all 3 Also if you have the color match paint for your specific model shipped to me, I'll color match it (as aposed to just DK Grey) I have a place I like to get it from they have great product and the match is perfect, (my F bumper is there red) If y'all think the price and terms are fair let me know and we can roll the first 3 off the line I could have these in the mail w tracking within 2 weeks of receiving payment and cores
BoozeRS05
Seems fair.. So if we can find our own WRX scoop and send everything over its gonna be $125 plus all the shipping costs? turboboost
Pricing sounds fair. 08-09" scoops should be identical to '05-07?
BoozeRS05
No, I believe the 02-03 WRX scoops are the smaller size and the ones our friend here is using. gtonstilts
I took a closer look at the 08+ it looks like the hood would need a bigger (deeper) whole cut to fit that . So 02 fitment it remains If you sent the 02 scoop and your oem scoop as well I'd knock off $100 because there is still a lot of materials and paint to craft it, plus I would have to strip the oem paint off the 02 scoop first which takes about an hour if ya do it right. There is also the possibility of 02 sti fitment, bigger whole, but would not look as subtle and flow with legacy hood lines as well as the current prototype does
turboboost
Sorry, must've been unclear. Since the 02 wrx scoop was prototyped on an 05 OBXT -- I was wondering if the modded 02 wrx scoop would fit the same on an 08-09 LGT. As far as I'm aware, the hoods on 05-09 are the same, but I'm not 100% sure.
gtonstilts
If the legacy oem scoop is the same as my 05 than I can get the lines to match up

Lindsay
I came onto the site tonight to ask if anybody has installed an 08+ scoop on their legacy. I just picked up another scooped hood for my 05 and am about to source a scoop. Nice job on the install gtonstilts.

Nice job on the install gtonstilts. i think you will find the 08+ scoop to large to fit, unless you don't care about maintaining the lines of the car. i would have loved to go bigger but it would have lost all flow.... Lindsay
I am actually going a little further than you did, I am taking 2 hoods and making 1. I have a spare hood for my car and I am picking up a WRX hood this weekend. Dropping both of them off and when I pick it up I will have a wrx style hood for my car. Changeable scoop and everything. If I could have found an 08+ hood cheap I would have gone that route.
gtonstilts
oh nice, i thought about doing larger scoop and having it be part of the hood but with the oem hood being aluminum i decided against it, good luck and post pics
