southbay88
Apparently my transmission has gone out on my 2006 LGT! I need to find a replacement but am not exactly sure what other transmissions will fit my car. Can I use a WRX transmission or any other year LGT or NA Legacy? Or do I have to get a 2006 LGT Transmission? Ive heard subarus are pretty picky with their tranny fitment. Also where would be the best place to find one? I am in the Bay Area, CA

Max Capacity
Read the sticky's, one has a list of gear ratios in the different tranny's. You have to get the right final gear ratio. I think JmP's sticky in the 4th gen forum has them. http://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php/idea-web-links-saved-various-parts-219238.html 305,600miles 5/2012 ej257 short block, 8/2011 installed VF52 turbo, @20.8psi, 280whp, 300ftlbs. Max Capacity
EJ is the series of the block, so yes if it came from a EJ it will fit any EJ. But again I'm not a expert. A person who would know would be Ryan Moore at Moore Performance, email him, you can tell him I sent you. I have a set of his Blast Plates. 305,600miles 5/2012 ej257 short block, 8/2011 installed VF52 turbo, @20.8psi, 280whp, 300ftlbs. (SOLD). CHECK your oil, these cars use it. Sgt.Gator
SouthBay and boostgt2; you need any 5 speed that has a 4.11 to match the 4.11 in your rear diff. From the list you posted you can use any tranny that has 4.111 but note the ratios can be quite different. Or you can choose almost any 5 speed, but if it's not a 4.111 then you will have to find an R-160 rear diff that matches your new tranny. It's easy to swap diffs at the same time you swap the tranny. Also if it's an '04 or older tranny it will have the stub axles. You'll have to pop the stubs out and replace the seals with the new ones for our front CV axles to work correctly. Plus the older trannys have weaker gears. It's best to only look at 2005 + 4.111 5 Speeds for simplicity and strength in your replacement. Here's the JDM list. You can find some JDM Trannys on eBay from the importers...that's where I got my JDM Forester STI 6 speed: JDM 3.454 / 2.062 / 1.448 / 1.088 / 0.825 / 4.111FD – '93-'96 JDM Impreza WRX/STi 3.454 / 2.333 / 1.750 / 1.354 / 0.972 / 3.900FD – '93 JDM Impreza WRX RA 3.454 / 2.333 / 1.750 / 1.354 / 0.972 / 4.111FD – '94-'95 JDM Impreza WRX RA/STi RA 3.454 / 2.062 / 1.448 / 1.088 / 0.825 / 4.111FD – '93-'00 JDM Impreza WRX Wagon 3.083 / 2.062 / 1.545 / 1.151 / 0.825 / 4.444FD – '97-'00 JDM Impreza WRX RA/Type R/STi RA/22B STi 3.166 / 1.882 / 1.296 / 0.972 / 0.738 / 4.444FD – '97-'00 JDM Impreza WRX/STi 3.166 / 1.882 / 1.296 / 0.972 / 0.738 / 4.444FD – '01-'07 JDM Impreza WRX You can download this pdf list along with the matching tranny ID #s from Rallispec here: http://www.rallispec.com/downloads/Transmission%20ID%20Chart_Public.pdf Also if you can swing it now would be a good time to put a LSD in it. LGT 5 speeds don't have a LSD as OEM. Nothing like a race track to find the weak points in man and machine. "Good Judgement comes from Experience. boostgt2
So I would be able to swap a low mileage say 2010 wrx 5 speed and rear diff? And use my legacy axles and drive shaft?
Sgt.Gator
So I would be able to swap a low mileage say 2010 wrx 5 speed and rear diff? And use my legacy axles and drive shaft? Yes. The only problem is the 3.90 rear diff in a 2010 WRX is listed as Open. You currently have a viscous LSD in your LGT rear diff. You can open up your LGT diff and pull out the VLSD, then install it in the new WRX Diff. It sounds a little scary but it's not that hard. Or you could buy an aftermarket LSD and install it in the WRX diff. Any aftermarket LSD will work better than the VLSD does. Or go without an LSD, just bolt that WRX diff up and call it good. If you don't track your car, or do a lot of "spirited" driving you probably wouldn't notice the difference. You axles and drive shaft will work with any of those. Nothing like a race track to find the weak points in man and machine. "Good Judgement comes from Experience.
