rallispec
okay, blacked out my lights today --- let me tell you a few things to watch out for -- FIRST, once you open up the headlights, be gentle with chrome on the light assembly. If you plan on painting over all of it, then it's not a problem. But if you plan on masking parts of it off to keep some chrome (around the main light, for example) -- tape it off right away and don't take off the tape until your done with everything. It scratches very easily, and comes off even easier when you wipe it down. Mine got a bit dirty while handling it, so i took some windex and a paper towel to clean it off... Starting rubbing pretty hard to get the grease off and next thing I knew I had rubbed the silver right off. Under neat the chrome is white plastic, and very noticeable. I had to run up to the store to pick up some chrome paint to fix it. Not quite the same color chrome, but it looks decent enough. Second - when putting the headlight back in, make sure to line it up properly and verify that the light is seated properly. there is a guide hole on the car that must be lined up with part of the light, I think either the prong on the light or the guide hole bent sometime durring the install, and my passenger side light fixture would not line up properly no matter what I did. you can still some some amber from the turn signal.. left chrome around it to make it brighter http://spillihp.com/amber.jpg my new 'chrome' http://spillihp.com/chrome.jpg headlight gap-- http://spillihp.com/gap1.jpg I've got it close enough that it's not TOO noticeable, but i will have to tear down my bumper again later in the week when i've got more time to do a decent fix. http://spillihp.com/gap2.jpg
Guest *Jedimaster*
When I did mine, I had a gap in the same place- I took the light out again, popped it in the over for a few minutes until the glue was soft againa dn pressed it back together- fits perfectly now- I think that in my case I waited too long to put the light back together. PGT
did you need to seal with silicone or did they seem to go back together ok? Seems like there was a ton of sealant still in there when we worked on the first one Saturday.
rallispec
did you need to seal with silicone or did they seem to go back together ok? Seems like there was a ton of sealant still in there when we worked on the first one Saturday. the existing glue was more than enough to seal things back together -- i did go over with silicon though, just to make sure it was water tight. Jedi, thanks for the tip, after looking at lense again, that may indeed be the problem. I'll check it out more tomorrow in teh daylight again. Guest *Jedimaster*
I didn't use any extra silicon- there was way more than necessary there already- couldn't hurt to put more on it though.
