Kodybarbera
I'm imagining this is going to be one of the "repost" topics but I can't find what I'm looking for. after a trailer truck pulled out in front of me and didn't even look when I blew the horn, I decided I need to upgrade. of course there is there hella supertones, but do I need a special harness or do they come with the relays and everything but I have to wire it all myself? and what about the sickspeed version on eBay? I'm not looking to spend a fortune but I feel like better horns are a must. any help or opinions would be greatly appreciated. thanks!
MrTris
Do not do anything ebay. Period. WTF is Sickspeed, anyway? Another GS knockoff brand? Hella Supertones can be had for pretty reasonable: [ame=http://www.amazon.com/HELLA-003399801-Supertone-High-Bracket/dp/B0002MA03S/ref=sr_1_1?s=automotive&ie=UTF8&qid=1404251539&sr=1-1&keywords=hella+supertone+horns]Amazon.com: HELLA 003399801 Supertone 12V High Tone/Low Tone Twin Horn Kit with Bracket: Automotive[/ame] Is $50 too much for your safety? AFAIK, they fit fine and wire up no problem -- I see TONS of WRXs and STIs with them.
Kodybarbera
I'm giving the sickspeed horns a try. (google them) they're the same price as supertones but come with the wiring harness. ($51) rated at the same decibel as the supertones too (118)
golunnova
Subscribed for the success story or the massive regret story. I have the Hella Supertones wired up with the subiemods harness + hella relay and I have no complaints. The horns are so loud that I am hesitant to use them unless it is to warn someone...or a bastard double parking on a narrow street.
John J
The Sickspeed version is also available on Amazon: [ame=http://www.amazon.com/Sickspeed-Black-Super-Compact-Electric/dp/B00F009X58/ref=sr_1_11?s=automotive&ie=UTF8&qid=1404324482&sr=1-11]Amazon.com: Sickspeed Black Super Loud Compact Electric Blast Tone Horn: Automotive[/ame] The Hella looks like a better deal though. That's nice, but it doesn't lend it any more credibility than I'd give it, just based on the name alone.
kirshnerd
I just removed my Supertones from my OBS to transfer onto my Spec B.... I only noticed this after taking them off, but the relay and Subimods harness have corroded quite badly over 2 years (in Canada)... to the point where one relay pin is completely gone. I'll need a new relay and to fix the harness now, so I would recommend tucking the harness as far from the elements as possible!
Kodybarbera
the horns should be here by best week, I will post pictures and probably a video. I'm hoping I don't regret them but we will see.
kirshnerd
Just make sure you wire them up properly with power coming from your battery via the relay and fuse and you'll be fine. If all you do is replace your OEM horns with the Hellas you wont be impressed.

I noticed the wiring harness doesn't have a fuse, opinions on adding one?
boxman
I'd put in a fuse.
Kodybarbera
I think I'm gonna add one. I got the car in the garage, pulled the grill and decided I was too tired to mess with it today so I just mounted them and left it at that. next weekend I plan on getting them installed. Kodybarbera
okay so quick questions.. could I just leave the stock horns and wire these in with them? so like when I hit the horn, they both go off. if so, could I just run it off of the horn fuse? or would this blow the fuse? boxman
You should be fusing the power source to the new relay, not the trigger source (horn button). I wouldn't pull the power source from the existing horns, you're going to pull your trigger from there...so yeah, you can have them both installed and functioning. Kodybarbera
I just that if I were to power the trigger from the fuse box, would it blow that fuse? im not going to power the whole relay harness from that same fuse, just the trigger
boxman
Should be fine, the relay trigger doesn't draw a lot of amperage.
Kodybarbera
I didn't think it did but just wanted to make sure.. I may just install it that way until I decide to drop the bumper and disconnect the stock horns
ras06LGT
Pulling the air box allows for access to the stock horns without needing to drop the bumper. FWIW... I just ran wires from the stock horns right to the Hellas when I did the initial install (they came off another car and the relay was badly corroded). Still running them like that and they are plenty loud. As long as you aren't measuring a significant voltage drop at the stock horn harness there shouldn't be THAT big of a difference. Or is there? I had them wired up both ways at one time in my Jeep and the output seemed similar.
Kodybarbera
hmmm I'll have to look into that with the air box, thanks for the tip! I have to drop the bumper anyways because I'm putting hids in, unless you don't have to s
Kodybarbera
well, got them wired in today. I just wired them along side with the stock horns.
HappySub
I didnt have to drop my bumper to install HIDS.
Kodybarbera
now that I installed the horns I seen that dropping the bumper isn't needed. thank god because that would be such a pain
