My 69 Chevelle

Recommended Posts

I brought my Chevelle to our local classic car show this weekend. There were about 480 cars mostly pre-1975, but they did have an open class with a a couple nice cars, and a bunch of POS's. I figured I would share some pictures of my baby since I spent some time getting her nice and shinny.

I also had to replace the carburetor (ran into some issues with that), and I had to do a complete tune up (plugs, wires, distributor cap). Its still not running 100%.

A little background on the car: Its a 69 Chevelle Malibu with the 250hp 350 V8. My dad brought it brand new the day he turned 16. When I was younger we both worked on restoring it. It is now mine, but I sill store it at my parents house since I dont have room for it. I seem to only drive it once a year, and I know I need to start driving it more. It has been restored to exactly how it was one my dad had it in HS and College. A few years after College he put it in storage and it sat for years before we restored it. There are quite a few original parts (engine, tranny, Headliner, Dash), but other things have been repalced (seats, carpets, door pannels) of course it was also re-painted and most of the exterior has been replaces. The wheels were a HS graduation present so they are not stock wheels but they are period.

Anyway enjoy:

Wow... what a nice example of a Chevelle. That color... Awesome.

Thanks a lot. Its called Frost Green and its a stock 69 Chevelle color. It pretty unusually and I only ever seen one the exact color (excluding internet pictures).

Nice!

Love the color, and it's great to see one that hasn't been turned into an SS clone.

I know right? There were about 20 cars in my class (Stock Chevelles, GTO's and Fairlanes) most of them were Chevelles and there and a few of them were clones. The guy who pulled in next to me had a 70 SS but when I asked him what engine it had he said 427. Well they did not make a 427 in 1970, so I can just assume it was a clone, I never asked him.

I totally agree with my dads decision to keep it just like it was when he got it. Too many fake SS clones out there, or ones with modern upgrades (disk brakes, aftermarket stereos, etc....). The only aftermarket thing we have done to it is add a couple 6x9's to the rear deck, but I am working on a way of keeping the 6x9's but making it look factory. It also has a aftermarket stereo, but its hidden in the glove box.

Im going to save all the aftermarket stuff for my 69 Chevy pickup im currently working on.

Thanks. I'm glad to see so many people that love the color. I want to paint my 69 Chevy truck project the same color. Too bad I can't convince my father. He actually hates the color even though it was his. He is paying for the paint job so I can't argue too much.

I too love the 69 front end the best

Beautiful Chevelle! Can't wait to see the 69 Chevy P/U you're working on.

Well this is how she sits right now. Hopefully over the next month or so I can finish stripping her and remove the engine and tranny, and send her off the my body guy.

We got a pretty sweet deal on the truck. The body is very straight with very little rust. The engine was re-built and has a few nice performance mods, and the wheels and tires it came with cost more than we paid for it.

Here is what it looked like when we bought it.

That's a clean car, and +1 for working with your father on stuff like that. I hope one day one or both of my daughters are into cars. Would be awesome to do some type of resto together.

Thanks. Yeah i hope to pass on working on vehicles to my kids one day.

I have so many plans for future vehicles I would like to restore. After Im done with the truck, in a few years I am thinking about working on a Camaro, but since they are so expensive maybe something like a Blazer or Bronco. Or maybe another Chevelle.
