Intercooler spray approaches

It has a 1 degree hysteresis, which i wish it was like 0.5

So even though my trigger is set to 42, it will trip at 43. Dropping to 42 takes about 40 seconds after a good power run. About half cup of water.

 

While it may have improved the system a bit, It's not really needed. I witnessed that once i moved off the temperature quickly fell to just 5-10 above ambient. I didn't know the wind cooled it so quickly.

 

So for a poor man's setup, use only the hobbs switch, nothing else.

Really well done system, and planning. I like it. The biggest thing I would suggest is take the time to straighten up those intercooler fins, you'll get better flow through the core (better evaporation and better heat removal too). They are just like a screen on a window, you think a few won't make a big difference, but you'd be amazed how much resistance to flow a few bent fins can cause.

 

Also any reason you didn't want to spray into the intake path? Water injection is really well developed and controllable, you'd also get a lot more bang for your buck, one nozzle would drop IATs a lot more than your 5 nozzle setup is doing right now. That one's just a thought though, to each his own.

I like meth injection. I'm scared of it failing, and it cost a bit more. But it works. I plan on having it done about mid next year.

 

THe intercooler fins, well, lets just say they were WAAAY more crooked than that. that what you see there is my attempt at straightening it. lol

 

UPDATE:

after 1 week driving my tank is still at about 60% or more.

It's also important to position your nozzles that it sprays WITH the direction of the wind.

I've slighly changed my nozzle location to accommodate this.

 

At high speed, the former position of the nozzle will not be most effective as the wind will force the mist nearer to the exit of the nozzles instead of over the intercooler fins. The high wind would prevent the mist from ever getting spread evenly over the intercooler.

 

Spray in the same direction of the airflow. That way u will have more water going through the intercooler.

 

I mounted my nozzle rail on the engine cover now with the nozzles pointing slightly down.
