What color is the crap on the inside of your tailpipe?

My car leaves so much black soot on the inside of the tailpipe that I can clean it out, drive to the beach and back, and the layer of black nastiness is already there. Water coming out of the tailpipe deposits some of the soot on the bottom outside part of the tip, as well. It looks really nasty.

 

I was conditioned to understand that gray deposit = good, and black soot = fuel mixture way too rich. What gives? I'm running AP Stage 1, if it makes a difference. Is everyone else's tailpipe looking as nasty as mine?

 

I also have all the other things people complain about as well, including shaky idle, obnoxious stutter between 2k and 3.5k, rattly interior panels and seat belts, clunk when turning sharply, broccoli-water clutch smell, and nasty wet beer fart smell going up hills and accelerating.

+1 All cars have it... it is just a matter of the amount and if you notice it.

yep. its normal from the exhast. i normally clean it with some carb/choke cleaner. spray it on a rag and clean it out.

Def. normal....clean out twice a week;) If you stay on top of keeping it clean it will come out very easy.

With my stg2 it was less black, I guess it runs a little leaner now.
