...so "no" on the factory 95-96 ej22 pipe? Unless a smooth silicone sleeve or something is inserted inside the ribs of the accordion?

There's an airflow advantage of the smooth metal pipe over the corrugated (ribbed) sections of stock plastic intake pipes.

The tradeoff however, is that the system flexes less, which risks pipes popping off if you don't have enough flexible rubber or silicone connectors. No one has reported such issues however, it seems that the hybrid intake designs are sufficiently flexible, so I wouldn't worry. The stock design is basically just playing really safe, by adding a very flexible section at the cost of airflow.

Does that answer your question?

so... "maybe"

In another thread (the one I started for the MSD coil upgrade) I was told this Weapon- R kit can be used and in place of the air filter, you can get an adapter to attach it to the stock airbox. I am thinking of doing this

There was a big long thread on Nasioc a few years back that had a pretty detailed study of the air velocities of different pipe designs comared to one another, on the 2.5RS, the FACTORY, OEM, ACCORDION-STYLE, 1995-1996 EJ22 J-PIPE INTAKE TUBE was the most effective at delivering air into the manifold.
