outback_wagon805
for some reason my car only revs to 4k and will not go past that, it sputters, and if i rev it to 4k and let ff the gas petal it just dies and starts right back up. i checked timing belt and it was ok, i thought it might have jumped a tooth or something but all is fine, after that i compression checked all cylinders and it all checked out fine. I'm just hoping it has nothing to do with the head gasket, its the original and i have 230,000 on the car and original clutch. any ideas or has anyone else gone thought this? snederhiser
Hello; I would check the fuel pump with a pressure gauge. Then pull the pump and check the filter sock, then the underhood filter. Your pump should put out 36psi and 60psi with the return line pinched, Steven.
Nubie
Any codes? If it's only reving to 4000k that usually means it's in limp mode. Check the codes, my little bothers ended up being a transmission speed sensor that was causing his issue.
outback_wagon805
I changed the fuel pump 2 months ago. The pressure is good also. Sent from my SM-N900T using Tapatalk

Zues Marine
At nubie, is the speed sensor the same for an auto trans and a m/t the first thing I thought too was that it sounded like limp mode.. the sensors have different part numbers but im running an AT one in my MT and have no problems
Nubie
Zeus thank you, that answers that question. But i would difinitely get the codes at least so you can start looking for the problem. I would not look into the speed sensor until you know what codes are there.
