Moderators BarManBean Posted February 4, 2014 Moderators Share Posted February 4, 2014 Update: So they started pulling my car apart today, and removed the timing belt to get to the oil filter for the turbo. Whut? Those prices are probably about par for the course for dealership parts, but look up a gates timing belt kit on rock auto. Comes with the belt and all the pulleys. May as well replace the belt of you are doing all the pulleys and consider the waterpump as well. But remove the TB to get to the oil filter? Do they mean one of the banjo bolts? anjohn17
Should I have them do the belt even if it's not needed for awhile? Car is only at about 45k, and they said the belt had good life in it yet. Yes, I think he was talking about the banjo bolt but just worded it strangely. BoozeRS05
Sounds to me like whoever did your last oil change should be paying for this work. Oil leak at the filter or drain plug, lead to low oil, lead to oil starved turbo. Serb Legacy GT
I thought 2007 LGT's didn't have the banjo bolt filter screen? It's surprising that shop was more money, my brother owns a shop and did my shortblock and turbo and actually thought it was pretty straight forward and easy. Hopefully the dealership did the right diagnosis and sends you on your way trouble free. It sucks that you had the issues, but at least the oil consumption wasn't do to ring land issues. You'll have peace of mind now with the new turbo.
