deadsnake Posted January 18, 2014 Posted January 18, 2014 Hey guys I just picked up a used stromung exhaust for my 05 legacy gt auto. Came off a 05 outback manual. 1st. Will it fit? 2nd. Do I NEED a tune right away? Thank you.
Hepy117 Posted January 18, 2014 Posted January 18, 2014 IIRC, auto will fit on manual but not the other way around. Also as for tube, catbacks dont need a tune. Now if you have a downpipe to add on to that cbe, then yes tune
deadsnake Posted January 18, 2014 Author Posted January 18, 2014 So it will not fit? Sorry it's a turbo back. But I can hold off on the dp if need be
rob-2 Posted January 18, 2014 Posted January 18, 2014 If you open up the DP and reduce the restrictions you need a tune. You can limp it over to your tuners after install but stay out of boost. You'll be over boosting. I would highly suggest changing the UP and DP and open up the car. UP has cat and can take out your turbo
Zero1 Posted January 18, 2014 Posted January 18, 2014 auto DP =/= manual DP I believe MP back is still the same but the wagon cat-back is slightly longer than the sedan cat-back FYI.
deadsnake Posted January 20, 2014 Author Posted January 20, 2014 I am getting a lot of conflicting info, some people say it will fit and some say it wont, some people say I need a tune some say I don't... this sucks!
Nrw Posted January 20, 2014 Posted January 20, 2014 If you're talking about just a catback you don't need a tune. Adding a downpipe needs a tune. A MT downpipe will not fit a AT car. But a AT downpipe will fit a MT car, minus one bracket which there's ways to make the bracket work if your creative.
Hepy117 Posted January 20, 2014 Posted January 20, 2014 Turbo back, yes you need a tune. Where you'll run into a problem is the manual downpipe will not fit an auto
deadsnake Posted January 20, 2014 Author Posted January 20, 2014 Took the car to the shop and it looks like the catback itself is too short to fit on the stock DP, shop said they could cut it at the top and add some to make it fit, is there anyway that the manual DP could be modified to fit the auto?

I believe it will hit the tranny. Now that said, anything can be done with thr right amount of money. I would suggest just selling the manual one and get an auto
deadsnake Posted January 20, 2014 Author Posted January 20, 2014 Just the DP right? this one seems a lot shorter than the other DPs I have seen
Hepy117 Posted January 20, 2014 Posted January 20, 2014 Yeah the dp will hit. The midpipe of thr cbe may need to be lengthened a bit to make it fit right.
BHanz34 Posted January 20, 2014 Posted January 20, 2014 PM me about the UP and DP. Maybe I'll take them off your hands and you can find proper ones for your car
deadsnake Posted January 21, 2014 Author Posted January 21, 2014 Returning the exhaust to the owner, too much of a headache
Alex609 Posted January 21, 2014 Posted January 21, 2014 Tune will be Needed for dp, but for a catback you should be just fine!
m sprank Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 No tune required for a cat back exhaust. Wagon models (of Stromung cbe's) have longer tips on the cans. Otherwise they are the same. But a wagon mounted on a sedan will cause the tips to stick out too far.
PtPixel Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 Just the DP right? this one seems a lot shorter than the other DPs I have seen FWIW if the DP is about a foot shorter than it should be then it is likely missing a catalytic converter (or cat delete). One way to tell is if the flange at the end of the DP has bolts lying on the horizontal then there is a small section of the exhaust missing. But maybe the mid pipe is longer than that of other aftermarket exhausts and makes up for that lack in length (sounds like it doesn't from what you said). Shame you had to return it, I've heard good things about the Stromung exhausts. It's only the DP that will not fit, everything else will fit with a different aftermarket DP (unless you don't have a wagon, then the tips would be too long).
