GTTuner
22RE was a legend. Too bad it never made any power, even in turbo trim. I'd love to get one and do a V8 swap, those were great looking RWD Toyotas.
twisty
ya, i think they topped out at like 105hp or something like that, lol. but when i was a 16 yr old and the car was a year old, that sucker was the fastest thing i had driven. much faster than my 80 datsun 210, and looked way cooler. 1-3-2-4
I don't hate the 2.5, like you said with a new HG they are good to go. They have OK power, even by modern standards. One of my other cars is a 1997 Outback and it has the DOHC 2.5, probably the most "unreliable" of the Subie engines. It had it's HG done at 175,000 miles (now has 210,000) and is solid other than the stupid cam seals leaking some oil. My Ej25 in my '97 Outback let go when I clutched in getting off the highway.. some serious rod knock.. It started consuming a bit more oil then normal.. But looking forward to take the block apart.
