Timing Belt Replacement

Recommended Posts

So...

I was thinking of R&Ring the timing belt on my Subie. Can someone recommend a good place to get a timing belt kit and a water-pump? I'm thinking it would probably be cheaper to order from the same website. The car was bought with unknown maintenance records...so yeah, I think it's time to take some precautionary measures.

Also, just to make sure, is everything after '96 a Phase 2 motor and thus non-freewheeling? Thanks alot.

do a search of my posts for timing procedures. (in 3rd gen i think.)

subaru is different than other engine makers.

if you guess, you will get it wrong.

lots of folks have on their first try.

it isn't rocket science, but it is different.

read first.

you do want quality parts.

but more important is to replace everything.

replace the belt and everything it touches. (except the crank sprocket.)

the belt rarely breaks.

a pulley usually gives up, the bearing, because it was not change with the timing belt.

i buy from ''theimportexperts'' on ebay.

quality parts at a good price.

you can buy cheaper parts, but not for the same quality.

i have 45k on one of their kits and no worries.

but buy what you want, just be sure to buy EVERYTHING.
