Triple Digits
(I searched Proxes 4 and noise) Took off the stock rims and tires today and got (well the wheel choice is another topic) and 225/45/17 P4's. I'm getting a wooshing hiss off the tires when I corner with any speed or side load. Is that normal for these? At first I checked for a door being ajar it startled me so much. I'm still aired up at the 38f/36r that I was running in the RE92a's (And yes, they feel a little less lively and deader on turn-in than the stockers.) melayout
3DoubleD, I had the PX4 installed yesterday, 37f/35r and yes they woosh and hiss during hard cornering. I don't know if they do that during lower speeds but I'll find out tomorrow and chime in. I keed I keeed
godwhomismike
Mine made wierd noises at low speeds, but I never noticed it when cornering. I'll check it out later this week.
Xenonk
it's from the tread pattern design, nothing wrong or bad about that. Keefe Keefe
XgT
i had them on my old mazda6s, and they were pretty quiet when compared to my friends t1s on the same car. they did make the noise when turing

Triple Digits
how loud is this noise? annoying? To me, yes... Stereo at 15-18 with a CD to cover it depending on speed and road surface...
melayout
Yeah, the turning noise hasn't subsided, since as XenonK stated is due to the tread pattern. But it is so sticky when turning that I don't mind it that much. I keed I keeed
HansGT
To me, yes... Stereo at 15-18 with a CD to cover it depending on speed and road surface... eeeee crap...don't know if i should get these now. a lot of people on this site have had issues with these.....crap! don't want to spend the cash for the Pirelli's and end up with flat spotting over the winter...that's annoying too! is there a better ideal all season out there??? HansGT
if i did the trial 500 mile thing and decide i don't like them (before i hit 500) can i return them, get my $$$ back and just put my crappy stockers back on?
melayout
Make sure they have a return/refund policy and get it in writing is possible. The trial will be more like 300-400 miles, since you want to be at the tire dealer before 500 miles and you don't know what might come up. I say don't do it and go for the Michlen. http://www.tirerack.com/tires/surveyresults/surveydisplay.jsp?type=UHPAS or the Avon. Triple Digits
is there a better ideal all season out there??? Jack at iON just recommended the Nokian Hakka WRs in 225/45/17 for all-season/winter and the Falken ST115's for summer if you want to or can go with two sets. (Car Stereo publications review the ST115's cuz they're so quiet.) The Ziex 512's were his second A/S choice.

TSiWRX
^^^ Han'sGT, search for them using those terms as keywords. You'll find plenty of good stuff written about Nokians from our across-the-border Northern brothers and sisters, especially in terms of dedicated winter tires. The Falken Ziek ZE-512s are, IMHO, a very reasonable - and even more reasonably priced - all-season alternative, but like all all-seasons, are only a Jack of All Trades, but not a specialist on either end of the spectrum. For my budget, the 512s in 225/45/17 were my best-compromise. <-- I love Winky, my "periwinkle" (ABP) LGT! - Allen / Usual Suspect "DumboRAT" / One of the Three Stooges '16 Outback, '16 WRX, 7th Subaru Family
jsalicru
I had these on my STi. I found them to feel crappy at first. Felt like I was riding on sandpaper for the first 3-4k... After that (with plenty of abuse during the course) they felt very good and continued to feel good until I sold the car. I put 15k+ on them with 50% tread still left. Ran them with -3 camber in the front the whole time and no toe. "some say, his arms are made of coiled adamantium fibers. And that he tops his cereal with nuts and bolts. melayout
Yeah, they are getting better as the mileage racks up, but the initial feel is so crappy at first that if I didn't have the forums to resort for advice and comments, I would have replaced them by now. tantal
I recommend the b-stone RE950. It is a far better tire than the re92 and the px4 - better in every way as far as I can tell. It's quiet, smooth riding, has much better grip, and better rain performance than the re92. You might also check out the dunlop SP5000, the contiextremecontact, the michelin xgt, the b-stone G009, and the pilot exalto. For my money, it's the RE950, preferably in a plus zero of 225/45/17. But then for my GT I am going to get a dedicated summer tire, which will outperform all of these tires in the summer. eeeee crap...don't know if i should get these now. a lot of people on this site have had issues with these.....crap! don't want to spend the cash for the Pirelli's and end up with flat spotting over the winter...that's annoying too! is there a better ideal all season out there??? LGT Chris
The only sound my tires make in corners is a loud, long squeeling sound. I'm actually trying to kill (opps, well, I guess this post will be deleted) my RE92's in less than 15K miles. My dealer offers free tires for life (replaced at <= 1/32") as long as they do all my service. I'm down to 3/32" at 9300K. Should be no problem. Maybe a trip to the track would take care of the rest. karamba
Is that hissing sound from the tires? I think it is from somewhere in the cabin. I get them occasionally - like air being let out gently for a second or so.
Triple Digits
After hitting the right pressure setup and getting 300 muiles on, the noise levels are at a more tolerable volume. But I've got 70 miles of highway commute a day and the frequency that 70-80 mph drone comes in at really bugs me. At 62-65 it's liveable.

Triple Digits
One thing I want to make clear is that I'm not saying these tires suck. I've learned to be smoother on turn-in and if it wasn't for the highway drone bugging me I might just ride em - they are plush, and they do grip. But Town Fair will let me return for refund or exchange - even swap for T1Rs... (Nokians would be another $360 - and at that differential it makes an additional set of off-season tires dedicated to the stockers look more attractive.)
