  2. Sounds like more racing for Mike. Maybe getting to drive (race) a car he does not own?

I don't own it yet. Need to sell my caddy first.

  4. I have this insane fear that if I stop, everything will stop. I cut it sooo close every month I just dont feel like I can let go yet. 4pm and I might call it a day an hour early today.

Felt good to be down at NJMP racing and doing race stuff this weekend and relaxing today. Also made a contact to get back into a legacy. A very special one at that. ;)

  5. Been chasing an electrical gremlin in the Buell all day. Second Sunday in a row. Might have a bad ECM.

    That and book keeping. :spin:

Wife went to the beach. She is camping over night. I am working at the shop tomorrow.

Bummer. You should rest one day!

  6. Yes, they were having a difficult time with it. RUSTY, like I didn't expect that. I warned him it was going to be a nightmare.

I think someone else here had the same type thing happen.

A long time ago I cracked a spindle on our 94 legacy turbo race car when doing the bearing.

  8. A bit scary. I too have been a human spring compressor. I also got my pinkies caught between a coil spring and a compressor before (my first solo sprig swap when I was 14). Broke both fingers and they still look it. Lol.

Haaa. Now we have a wall mounted one that is super safe. No more ghetto rigging it on those things. It can be real dangerous.

  10. You are using the OEM strut top mounts right? Not the Group N or Spec B ones? You remembered to install the Conical Washer?

Clunking like that when the bolt is as tight as it can be, sometimes means you've bottomed out the nut on the threads, but with the SpecB/GroupN mounts they are thinner so you need a washer in there in addition to the conical washer.

  11. Installed my Konis this weekend and can't get the nut on top of the front strut torqued down all the way without the strut spinning. I thought it wasn't supposed to spin with the weight of the car on it. What's my solution?

I have a pass through wrench but it doesn't leave enough room in the center to get on the Koni smaller 6 point.

You need a pass through to do it correctly. Back in the day we used to physically hold the piston while hitting the nut with an electric impact.

  16. Back in 01/02 we had to call the factory up to let them know they were over-torquing the left rear WRX knuckle bolts on the struts. We would literally have to put a 6' breaker bar and my 300lbs on the end of it barely knocked them loose. Eventually they figured out the robot putting those nuts on was mis-calibrated.

  20. Make sure bolts on bottom are tight. Make sure "nubs" are below cut line on strut body. Make sure water drain holes on upper spring perch is pointing towards strut clevis (outside car). Make sure conical washers are installed (have seen them missing more than a few times), but this requires breaking them down. Make sure strut rod upper bolt is tight (in center of top hat).

Yup. We have seen this on more than one occassion a well. Especially the conical washers and the cuts.
