  1. Indeed was a bearing... Replaced whole hub and knuckle with a junk yard pull. I had no press and absolutely no shop was willing to oress a bearing for me..... Oh well... All done now I believe we are road worthy finally. After two got dam weeks.
  2. Its definitely not tread noise, i changed the tires yesterday. Ive also replaced ball joints, tie rods and rack and pinion. None of those have answered the issue. Brakea were recently done but it doesnt sound like brake noise... And its not road noise... Salt lake has like 50 different types of road and the noise is consistent. So consistent it haunts me... Also feeling the hubs around the bearing, none feel excessivley hot.
  3. Im getting a humming noise in the front of the vehicle. Noise starts at 30, gets loudest at 50/55. When breaking it is audible until stop. Breaking hard makes it audibly worse... Changing lanes to try and put pressure on the suspected side doesnt really cause a noticable difference. But being in the driver seat to hear exactly where it is coming from. Its definitely coming from the right of me, but im having a hard time telling if its the wheel well or something closer to me. I really cant figure it out. Not excessive play in the tire, neither from side to side, top to bottom, or in an out..., i can maybe move the shaft of the axle a tiny amount when i grip it. Diagnosis has been inconclusive. This is really bugging me and setting me back. Is it transmission, axle, bearing? Uhg Any help is appreciated
  4. Yeah im aware of the shape of the ball joints. I was getting stuck well before the hourglass began to show. That being said, today i got that ball joint out and now i e diagnosed a wheel bearing... wtf i just want this nightmare to end... Ill beat the ef out my friend for not taking care of this p.o.s. befkre he gave it to me...
  5. Oh that looks rly nice Update i got that mfer out... After jacking the control arm up abd wedging sonething in between that and the knuckle at least 2o timea... I finally was able to get an angle to get a chisel and a hammer and beat down from the top... It sounded like it didnt want to come out... But it did. Cleaned up the inside really well, got all the rust and debris gone and was able to seat the new one in without a problem. Thanks for the input everyone
  6. Yeah i tried something similar where i got a breaker bar and a long hollow pipe and did that, and then tried to apply more torque, but i was able to only get it so far.. I mean ill try again. But idk My idea now is to afix a wheel puller and maybe that will kinda serve the same way the bolt holes do on the brake rotors?
  7. Went to the junk yard and pulled and got some stuff... Main score was really clean looking alternator for 14$. Got new windshield wiper assys, new rearview mirror(lost its grip, pulled a different style out of an impreza, much better hold), new sun visors(both were ripped bad), got some of that nice fake wood grain dash trim out of a outback legacy, and installed all of those. Also had to replace the terminal on my alternator, so found a terminal and replaced the wireing harness to the battery as it was gettin pretty nasty and ragged. Tried to replace a ball joint but i got stuck. Made a thread on that if anyone has ideas on how to remove a ball joint from the knuckle
  8. I posted this question in my popping noise thread but i figured it would be easy to miss. So i have no problems freeing the ball joint from the control arm, but i can only get it so far out of the knuckle and no further. Ive seen some people make a tool for that, but that requires access to a drill or drill press, which i dont... I was wondering if a something like the snap on wheel puller set(such as the harborfreight version) would work? Any other suggestions would be nice. Thanks
  9. Yeah i agree. Ive driven from cars on their last leg, but at the very least they were safe to drive... Maybe not for the environment, but for me... Anyway, today i had to replace the rack that was a replacement. Shit was leaky af... But now im a pro at tearing through the under side of the car. Also replaced the tie rods too... But a strange popping noise that has been around since i got the car on the og test drive is still around... I have a thread for it if anyone is interested in seeing more details and providing thoughts. So tomorrow will likely be that project, and/or replacing the tires... I would like to get an alignment, but i am saving that for last.
  10. My friend gave me his 95 legacy after i totalled my trailblazer(rip)... Hes put a lot of work into it running, but not safely... So... Yesterday I changed the front rotors, calipers, and pads. And bled the lines. Todays project will be the steering rack as there is way to much play for me to sleep soundly at night... Its wonder how he hasnt died... Hopefully i wont
