If you look closely at the info panel in those pics, you'll notice that the passenger air bag "on" and "off" lights are both dark. The extension cable is missing two wires that are needed to complete the airbag circuit. I managed to get the stock wiring to reach down to the panel, but just barely. I had to connect the panel wiring before tightening down the radio, and I can't screw in the trim pieces now. I'm going to take another crack at this, I'm expecting some rattles... but for now at least my GF has an airbag.

Refresh is very fast. However I noticed that if I turn the car off and back on, the program needs to be closed and restarted. Kind of annoying.

Pics! Including the dashboard program I mentioned earlier: http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z151/Legacy_NSFW/BezelInstalledVeryDark.jpg - http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z151/Legacy_NSFW/BezelInstalledDark.jpg - http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z151/Legacy_NSFW/BezelInstalledLight.jpg The laptop isn't properly installed yet... I ran the USB and video cables out the side of the center console, and in these pics, I'm sitting in the passenger seat with the computer in my lap.

I just finished relocating my info panel and installing the screen/bezel that BMac made for me last winter. Looks pretty sweet! Relocating the trip computer meant losing the cigarette lighter. The screen came with a power cord that ends in a cigarette lighter. (insert lightbulb icon here) So I plucked the socket out, stuck in the power cord from the screen, wrapped it all in foam, and tucked it next to the radio. Screen turns on and off with they key. The info panel relocation bracket I bought from Japanparts over a year ago isn't an exact fit for the USDM 05 LGT. I had to hack at the bracket and the back of the console, and the screws go in at funny angles, but from the outside you can barely tell. If you look real close, the corners of the bracket have a slightly smaller radius than the corners of the opening where the ashtray was, but that's all. I'll post pictures tomorrow.

No, but I can take some shots next time I go for a drive with my laptop.

There's a simple dashboard at http://www.codeplex.com/ssm that's worth a look too. Only problem is you have to mess with XML by hand if you want to see different parameters.

There's a thread in the group-buy forum where HighlineCA is chopping up factory radios and sending them back with space for a double-DIN radio. It's not cheap, but it's worth a look. They craftsmanship is really good, too.

One of my favorite stories is about a boy in Texas, when the teacher asked the class the following question: There are nine sheep in pen, and one jumps out, how many are left? Everyone got it right, and said eight are left. The boy said none are left. The teacher said you don’t understand arithmetic, and he said ‘no, you don’t understand sheep.’ - Charlie Munger

Well I guess if you're going to drive it 'til the wheels fall off, you better get damn good ones.

Has anyone here hooked up a USB tuner? Does it use the factory Subaru antenna? How's the reception?

What wheels are those, Momswgn?

What are you usually apologizing for?

A good apology has three parts: 1) I'm sorry. 2) It was my fault. 3) How do I make it right? - Randy Pausch

Our sons ought to study mathematics and philosophy, geography, natural history and naval architecture, navigation, commerce and agriculture in order to give their children a right to study painting, poetry, music, architecture, statuary, tapestry and porcelain. Question for those of you with PCs over your spare tire and screens in your dash: How long is your VGA cable, and where did you route it? Thanks!
-
Does anyone here know BMac, or know how to get in touch with him? He was going to make a bezel for me but I haven't heard from him in a while. Thanks!

SAE J266 is a test procedure, not a law. I think the following link returns Part 571 in its entirety, there's no mention of oversteer, understeer, or J266: http://frwebgate1.access.gpo.gov/cgi-bin/waisgate.cgi?WAISdocID=768480446641+1+0+0&WAISaction=retrieve Sorry man, but I think you were misinformed. -

Can you point me to some more information about that law? Obligatory on-topic material: If there's a car setup change that can help this problem I'd like to know about it, but 50mph is pretty fast for snowy/icy roads. If people are passing you under these circumstances, it might just be that they're too dumb to slow down. Much as I enjoy passing the people on my way up to go snowboarding, I also take a certain amount of pride in not being the fastest driver on the road when I can't see the pavement. Those people passing me, they're my canaries. A couple people mentioned VDC, but IMO that stuff exists to help out in exceptional circumstances like accident avoidance. I would not want to rely on electronics to keep the car moving in a straight line - if that's required, it's time to slow down.
