  1. Did anybody order other accessories after getting your car? I should've ordered trunk liner and rubber mat when I ordered the car. It was a lot cheaper than when I'm trying to order it through parts dept.

Try talking to parts counter directly (and sales staff) and they may give you a lower price/discount.

Otherwise ordered from this site and seems to be good service and prices: https://subaruonlineparts.com/legacy-interior-accessories-c-240_716_717.html

  2. 34 is a great number. Since car reported it the number might not be very accurate. Keep fingers crossed that "touring" is its sweet spot. My old Honda V6 would report 35 mpg on easy trips but fill-ups would show closer to 30.

I did a couple days around town last week and my Touring reported 16.8. Last fill-up calculated 20.8 with a couple remote start warm-ups in there. Now that I'm past the 1000 mile break in period and floor it once in a while I am a bit afraid what the next fill-up will show.

22.9 on last tank with mixed driving

  3. I've rented several non-hybrid cars that have had the start/stop technology and they have been much smoother. My 2.4 Subaru is inconsistent as sometimes the whole car rocks when restarting. It's like there is too much fuel and the engine backfires. To make things smoother they need to better coordinate the starter speed, fuel, spark, and torque converter load. Whatever is going on there is certainly room for improvement. I'm hoping an ECU flash will improve things.
  4. Not useless but you are right, I expected them turn on with opening the doors and they don't. They only come on with the dash lights and the dash lights aren't synced with the doors.

I am used to the footwell lights being tied to the headlights so are on while driving (but also come on when opening the door with auto headlights). Since always on in the dark they really can only be for accent lighting and can't be too bright - other cars have red and blue showing it is just for looks. The ones I had were dim enough that sometimes I wasn't sure if they were working with just opening the door.

For the price Subaru charges these should be tied to the door - full brightness when open then dash brightness when doors closed.

  5. This is pricey since it is a factory kit but was a fairly easy install. Kit was in a plastic bag with the two white LEDs, a wire harness, five zip ties, and two pieces of padding. Need to pop off four lower dash pieces (only two screws), run the wire, zip tie, plug things in and you are done.

It seems to be brighter than other brands and is nice that it is tied into the dimmer switch.

  6. At least the 2019 Ascent gives us a 2nd year engine/transmission combination. Teething issues should be over.

Looking at ConsumerReports they do show issues with the Ascent's reliability by saying it is only average overall. Electronics showing only average, power equipment and body integrity above average (not best). Then owner reports of paint/trim. Nothing about drivetrain issues.

  7. That's not something that I would lose any sleep over. In the old days with only a key the trunk latch would fail. The rear seats didn't fold so you had to remove them and then crawl through and unbolt the latch from the lid.

Subaru's position is most likely that 3 years of roadside assistance is included with every vehicle. After that you can still call someone - all roadside emergency services have jumper cables.

Note map lights are supposed to turn off automatically after 20 minutes.

  8. Nice mod/looks good. What I would like to know is how the handling is affected. Most of the early reviewers stated that Subaru's choice of tires wasn't good and stickier tires would help a lot. What is it like with your lower profile and better tires? I realize the geometry is changed and it wourld be hard to say what had more of an impact.
  9. Most of the bulbs are LEDs so Subaru's not publishing info. Saying "Consult your SUBARU dealer for replacement."

The only exterior ones listed are tun signal (7444NA/WY21W front/rear) and backup (W16W). The 7444NA is dual element so might be half marker (running).
