Another option: I ran mine through the grommet with the ECM wiring in the passenger side foot well. It's shorter but you need to make sure your wiring won't touch the turbo or downpipe. I wrapped my wiring in split loom tubing and wrapped that in foil tape as an extra precaution.
Through here, with all the ECU wiring?

Congrats on having the car back!
Now I just need to do a couple of things so I can get it tuned and actually drive it!
It's popping like crazy now even on the Cobb OTS Stage II tune with this much larger turbo. Need fuel stat!
-
I got it! It just kind of pops out.
Ended up taking the radio out too (doesn't seem to have been necessary) so I can do the aux input hack.
-
I've so far been unable to find this info myself (wrong search terms possibly) but how I do I remove the top cubby on the dash?
Does the radio, etc. need to be removed or can I just pop this cubby out without dismantling the radio trim?
About to install an AFR gauge using the IAG kit in this cubby.
I FINALLY GOT MY CAR BACK LAST NIGHT!!

You need the bracket that’s shown in Max’s second picture.
Damn. And like 5 bolts and washers.
Subie Recycler comes through.
They have the bracket and hardware for like $15.
Sweet!
Building cars is a pain in the ass.

I have the perrin sheild, have not installed yet but it will fit with basically any aftermarket turbo
75 bucks

Looks like Grimmspeed also has one and they offer the gold reflective stuff as an option as well.
Another question.
Is the turbo and the heat shield all I need for install, or is there also a bracket that goes into installing the heat shield onto the turbo?
-
My old heat shield was not even bolted onto the old turbo.
Also, my mechanic said a "bolt was missing" to actually install it.
Are there any aftermarket metal heat shields I can use or should I just look for a good used OEM one?
And what type of 'blanket' style heat shield do you recommend?
-
So I have an upgraded VF52 that was just installed on my car.
The stock heat shield didn't work, so it was not put back on the car after the turbo install.
What is everybody doing for a heat shield?
Cobb makes a flexible one (not like the stock metal one).

I have the 5 inch mufflers and unless you like super loud it's perfect, could even be a touch louder but it sounds nice at idle and aggressive at WOT

Same. I’ve got the teeny little Nameless mufflers. The rumble sounds awesome, I gotta admit.
-
I wonder if mine will quiet down some after I put a few more miles on it.
-
The 2014 STI up pipe worked fine, BTW.
-
Whoa, Nelly! This exhaust is LOUD!
I just hope I get used to it. It also looks like the stock mufflers might work if I get tired of the sound of the Nameless mufflers.
-
Which one though? And does the brand of BCS even matter? Mine is a Cobb.
This one should work, right?

I usually have that thread open all the time in my browser, lol!

I just picked up a cubby pod gauge mounting system, and I already have a AEM AFR gauge to install in it.
I'm looking for another gauge to fill in the other spot and do them both at the same time while it's apart.
Was thinking a boost gauge would be a good supplemental gauge to go in that spot.
Anyone care to give a recommendation for a 55mm boost gauge? Digital would be preferred.
I've got the Cobb BCS, if that matters.

I’m pretty sure I saw Japanese language promo ads for the new STI. It’s just not sold in the US I think.
-
Your wide band is it own sensor, placed in a exhaust bung is it not? Typically used for tuning on a dyno and or monitoring. The good thing with a wide band is seeing live time events go through the gauge between a digital readout and the sweeping color dial and also not pegging at 11.14 like the factory O2/AP combo.
I don't see how that would integrate into the vehicle harness and tie into the AP, unless I am thinking of something different.....
Info....how are you logging/tuning?
Sent from my SM-G996U using Tapatalk
My tuner said that just a phone video of the gauge itself while logging with a specific set of gauges on the AP would be good enough. The reason I was asking about integration into the harness was based on some comments I’ve seen online, but those were for later year model cars.
-
Thanks!
Now, correct me if I’m wrong but a 2005/6 cannot have the wideband integrated into the harness like a later model? You can’t use an AEM wideband and data log with an AccessPort like you could with say a 2008?
-
Amazon extension didn’t work (wrong plug). Ended up ordering the Casper Electronics one.
-
Do those add a fuse kits still allow for the fuse box cover to still fit on?
-
Yup correct. No need to go CAI until your nipping at about 350HP, or more appropriately, until your moving enough air that that stocker can’t keep up, typically anything larger than a VF52 with supporting mods
Exactly what I was thinking. I'd be doing it more (at this point) to alleviate the kink in the stock elbow.
When I pick the car up this weekend I'll get a picture of it.
-
If you do, you'll need a tune.
I don't know what the Perrin brings, but the Grimmspeed intake is approx 12% increase in airflow.
Trying to get as much stuff done before the e-tune.
I really like the GrimmSpeed stuff.
I might just do that. Thanks!
-
Based on tons of reading over the years I've gathered that CAI's on the Legacy platform aren't necessary until you go over like 350HP, and most people add them for the sound alone.
I have a friend that is offering me a Perrin CAI for my '06 OBXT because I have a Cobb turbo inlet and it's causing a kink in the stock elbow to the stock air box.
Should I go ahead and "upgrade" to a CAI, or no?
-
All my wiring is going above and through the driver wheel arch liner going towards the interior fuse box. You can route everything across to the battery / fuse box areas where you'll see a small opening. You'll be able to access the wiring if you pull down the liner slightly which will expose the grommet. You'll need to enlarge the grommet slightly to pass all the cabling. All of my sensors (wideband, oil pressure, oil temp and boost) take this pathway from the engine bay to the cubby.
Did you tap into the radio power wires for your gauge power or something like the cigarette lighter?
Cobb turbo inlet w/ stock intake?

Here is the air intake elbow. Do you think this is a big of a problem as my mechanic thinks it is?
And this breather hose is bugging me. He said that he couldn’t run it under the manifold because of how the PCV is situated. What do you think?
