  1. Join Fifth gen. It's not the most technical but still a decent place for discussion...I find the 5th gen legacy group not very active at all.

But for all things technical, this forum is well renowned. Any Facebook group will post links to this forum to answer most technical questions anyway.

  2. Found out recently during my alignment that I had a failed front passenger caliper. I've messed with trying to rebuild these calipers before and replace the seals etc, and I did NOT want to try and do that again. So, I opted to go with some new Raybestos re-manufactured & coated calipers from Rock Auto since I don't have Brembo money kicking around right now. I did not realize they'd be coated with this really attractive silver finish, and I honestly love it a lot. Looks far nicer, cleaner, and more cohesive than any color-painted OEM caliper I've ever seen (looks way better than red). The flash of silver behind my wheels is really appealing. Also, after I get the core charges for the calipers refunded by sending back my original ones, the pair of new calipers will only have cost about $120. I like them so much that I'm going to replace the rears soon as well (which honestly probably need it too, had tons of brake issues over the years). Swap was straight forward, everything went nicely, happy to have my brakes back to where they should be, and a nice cosmetic boost at low cost and relatively low effort.

That silver looks really good behind those wheels on a silver car. [emoji1474]

  3. You're right, but I have the same exact 225/40/18 tires mounted on all four corners (square stance). In that case, I don't think I am doing any damage since the wheels are not spinning at different speeds. It would be a different story if I had wider tires mounted in the rear.
That not how it works....if you have the same sized tire stretched on a wider rim, you aren't squared. You have a smaller rolling diameter at the rear.

  4. I have a similar issue going on but it seems like the coolant is at returning to the radiator instead.

I've heard sloshing when the car warms up as well so I'm trying all the cheap fixes before I go straight to the head gasket.

Did a flush, it's better but something still isn't right.

I ordered a new radiator cap from the dealership today. I'll update if this fixed the problem....

  5. That was probably me. I am curious how it compares to Plastidip. From what I've seen, it is a better product.
I tried plastidip on my grill and I've inspected it up close on some friends cars, not really a fan.

I'll be taking my wheels off this weekend while my car gets painted. I'll post some results from the superwrap sometime next week. If I don't like it, I'll peel it and try powder coating.

  6. Picked up the remaining parts for my brembo install. Today I picked up my rotors and pads, and the proper threaded bolts.

If I can get the rear rotors drilled for 5x100 tomorrow I'll start the install on the weekend.

I also grabbed a heat shield as the one behind my splash shield was rusted away, literally half is missing from corrosion.

Someone also mentioned Superwrap in another thread. After a couple YouTube reviews I decided to try it out, delivery came today as well.

Looks like I'll have an annoyed wife in the coming weeks.....if you need me, I'll be in the garage ....again.

  7. Just to add to the shipping situation....I ordered something from Russia back on May 5th. It was held in the Russian warehouse for 10 days before being released. Canada Post is still waiting for it to arrive....

If waiting is not your thing, I would be very hesitant on ordering anything outside of North America. I've ordered and received a number of items from Rockauto and other sources without issue.

I would stay away from anything that requires crossing an ocean until this covid situation calms down.

  8. I have a similar situation....I was originally gonna buy a set of spacers for my OEM winter wheels, but now I'm looking at a buying a new setup.

Still not comfortable with spacers for some reason....

I'll probably buy a set of 17s then sell my OEMs to recoup some of the damage.

  9. Nope, they are not the same. The STI fitting is straight and the BM9/BR9 fitting has a bend.
I just ordered a set of STI braided lines from Rockauto. They showed up today and I noticed they have a bend. It's not the full 90 degree, more like 45. Will these work or should I send them back?

I grabbed the powerstop ones since they are wrapped in pvc, extra protection from the Canadian winters.

I'm still a couple weeks away before I'm ready to complete the install so sending them back or selling them won't be an issue, I'll just order another set.

  10. And don't forget Brembo specific caliper bolts. The thread pitch is 1.25 whereas the stock Legacy caliper bolts are 1.5. Unless your Brembos came with them. Oakos Automotive always has them in stock and clearly listed on their website. This is probably the reason that so many Brembos need helicoil repairs. Lol!
Yes, thanks GTeaser. They are on the parts list I am accumulating as we speak.

Brake lines were shipped today, my rotors are also on the way and I already have a shop waiting to redrill the rears for me.

Should be installed in about 2 weeks [emoji16]
