  1. He is not the only one to ask you for the specific citation. Your claim that it is referenced in another thread is not convincing. And I have not been accused of being young for around 35 years.
  2. BTW, here's the thread the OP referenced from subaruoutback.org. It was posted by Boxxerace, a Moderator there. It's titled, "05' Outback and newer, DANGEROUS ON ICE!" I think this "problem" will rank right up there with Audi's "Unintended Acceleration."
  3. 21 people on subaruoutback.org think there's a problem - and that's including Gen II and Gen III. The other 250,000 thousand US L/OB drivers don't. There's no such thing as a car without studded treads that doesn't slide like a MF on black ice. If you scare yourself and back off the throttle, the rear end will come around. I think 95% of this "issue" is people with their first AWD car who think they are immune to the laws of physics and vehicle dynamics 101.
  4. There be history for that.....
  5. 1. Your state is calling it a Legacy Outback on the registration, I think? What state do you live in? 2. Check your tire pressure. Dealers used to under inflate tires. Now with the TPMS (Tire Pressure Monitoring Systems) they tend to over inflate them. Check out: http://www.cars101.com/outback.html
  6. Last winter I took a round trip of four miles each way, with two cold starts, and averaged 10.9 on the trip computer [H6]. My wife drives almost purely city and gets around 15 with our Mazda MPV. Sitting at traffic lights is not conducive to mpg. That's why we just put together an electrically-assisted bicycle. I've logged all fuel use since new: 20.9 mpg. Highest tank was 26.1, lowest 16.5. Mostly city and rush hour commuting.
  7. I don't think you are doing his career a service by posting the shop or details here.
  8. People rank on Hondas here all the time. But I have to say when I drove our Accord V6 last week, the ACC is completely automatic. I never have to move the temp once set. And the passenger's zone is slaved to the driver's side. For all Subaru's efforts to move upmarket, this is a poorly controlled system even compared to the cheapest cars on the market.
  9. Have them PM you. The inspection places are under a lot of pressure from the state. Sometimes they'll wait for a shaky car to get inspected, them make it pull back in again, as one example. So posting here is Trouble.
  10. YEs, but you have to live in Woostah.
  11. You go to BU and you have a Legacy instead of a WRX? I thought you got issued one..... Out of curiousity I checked what insurance would cost me in Boston for a WRX - $3,250 - 60% more than my OBW. That's OK, we have those little toy-sized states in N.E.
  12. Yes, they can devote engineering staff time to make this very slightly more difficult! But they can't manage to make the passenger side AC zone slave off the driver's side AC setting. My wife is going to hurt herself one of these days adjusting the AC... Nor have they added residual power to any accessories.
  13. As long as you are aware that CR will not release the raw data - just their scores; and use other tests not shown in the ratings to come up with their ratings (according to them); and only tests ice stopping and acceleration on an ice rink at 10mph or less - yeah, they're wonderful..... The results of those tests have already been posted in other threads, I think.
  14. On Farragut Road in South Boston, MA, there's a White OBXT with a bike rack parked near the harbor almost every morning. Anyone here?
  15. That could be robinlsb, she was fixin' to head South. In the parking lot Hannaford's (grocery store) off NH exit 4 Route 93, I saw another Silver Outback 3.0R wagon, with MA plates. Only the second 3.0R wagon I've seen, excuding LLBean and VDC.
  16. I just checked the log and the actual mpg from new through 19,000 miles was 21.5. For the first 9,000 miles it was 20, but that was mostly winter, on snows.
  17. I didn't post in the poll as presumably you only want turbo 2.5's. I've been logging trip computer versus calculated mileage for several thousand miles. Presumably it works the same for the H6 as the turbo. Thus far, the trip computer has always been 0.5 to 1.1 mpg higher than the calculated mpg. I skimmed the log yesterday and did not find an instance where the trip computer was lower than the actual mileage. YMWV. Here's the per-tank calculated average for the first 20,000 miles. It includes every single refueling, but is not technically accurate because each tank size differs. I believe the running average is now 21.5mpg. Most of the mileage is commuting, often a mad dash for 50 miles each way. The longest trip we've taken in this car is Montreal and back, and we live in the city, so it reflects a lot of city and congested highway driving. You can see the long highway trips because the mileage spikes up around 26 for a tank or two. It appears that H6's do indeed take 20,000 miles plus to break in fully. http://www.geocities.com/theseventhfirst/06subh6mpg20k.jpg
  18. See page 14 for a pic of 06 automatic. http://www.legacygt.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=16375&d=1143565604

This is apocryphal. He got in plenty of trouble for sounding off about Allied affairs, and had learned his lesson by D-Day. But he has many, many great ones. Two of my favorites are: "Wars may be fought with weapons, but they are won by men. It is the spirit of the men who follow and of the man who leads that gains that victory." From the Cavalry Journal, 1933. "To win battles you do not beat weapons — you beat the soul of man, of the enemy man."
