  1. Possibly it could be an easy check in car. It might be hard to distinguish between gear lash and wear, if there is any. Maybe take the 4 bolts off the diff so that u can hold one part of the shaft in your hand?
  2. SubOperator, when I was reversing out my driveway the first thing I noticed was that the car felt significantly smoother when coming on and off the clutch. More responsive I should say because the driveshaft didn't have that slop anymore.
  3. Hi all, recently I have been having this obscure driveline vibration at around 60mph. I crawled under the car, couldn't figure out what the problem was but decided to just try out a new to me driveshaft. I got a driveshaft from lkq off ebay. 07 legacy 4eat shaft 138k, 4eat shaft because 6spd swap. It showed up, typical subaru notchy ujoints, carrier bearing was in good condition. I shimmed the driveshaft down with some washers during install to ensure proper driveshaft angle. This is often overlooked but required when using a legacy driveshaft on an outback because the carrier bearing on an outback shaft has a different mounting bracket which compensates for the outbacks body spacers. Went for the test drive, everything was perfect. Vibration fixed. Now was the interesting part though, what failed on the outback 4eat shaft I pulled out? I started wiggling it around some more, ujoints werent anything out of the ordinary. Carrier bearing was perfect. Then I tried something I haven't thought of before, twisting the driveshaft to check for play in the slip joint, and viola, there was the problem. The slip joint had a good 5 degrees of slop in it. This driveshaft had 80k miles on it when I bought it for my 6spd swap and now has around a 100k. I was very surprised to find the shaft had failed at the slip joint and just wanted to make this post for anyone in the future to help with diagnosing a driveline vibration. Slip joint in question: Pic of the large amount of washers required to properly shim a legacy shaft on an outback:
  4. Can confirm that the kartboy endlinks work on the outbacks. The rear on my car was a PIA to install but I got them in eventually.
  5. If the kit is still available, pm me. I would be interested in picking it up this weekend.
  6. My only thing about high mileage transmissions is the bearings. Those things are probably howling if the trans has been beaten on. That being said though. If you are getting it for a dumb good deal, like sub $1500, then I would get it.
  7. Glad yours is going strong. I chipped a tooth in 2nd gear a couple weeks ago. trans lasted 6 months and 13k miles. 68k miles on the trans rn. Car is running 16psi at 3.5k tapering to 14 by redline on a vf52 with 11 afr targets, stock long block. Trans is out of an 06 sti bought with 55k miles. Have an r160 suretrac in the back that has a 3.54 final drive installed in it. Diff outlasted the trans.
  8. Not to be that guy but if you walk into any subaru dealer they will know extactly what your talking about it,They're like 70 cents a piece, I always get extra ones cause you never know when one gets lost in the black hole that is the engine bay.
  9. I recently swapped an 06 sti 6spd into my obxt. I am using a 2010 sti shifter linkage with kartboy bushings and short shifter. The shifter is sitting a little to the left of the center of the shifter bezel. I was wondering if any of you guys had similar placement of the shifter.
