  1. Number plate by the shifter would be a good start of verifying it

IANAL, but that's the only way the number can really be 'verified', and even then it's a bit suspect. AFAIK, Subaru did not match specb #'s with VIN's. Look a way back in this thread, there is a member who has (I think) a specb brought back from the dead, but in the process it lost it's number plate. As I recall, he contacted Subaru about it, and they were unable to help.

For the spec b's that have been on this forum since purchase, it may be a little easier due to this thread and it's predecessors.

SpecB.LGT - keep in mind, the low number does not make the car any more valuable then any of the higher numbers.

Also, I see #004 was loaned out to car and driver for a review. Did not see anything about #002 though.

  2. The hood and bumper were repainted from an accident by the original owner (Miles at Racecomp Enginering in MD). And no he was not a smoker the car is filthy on the inside with crumbs and personal belongings. I'm hoping that he gets the car detailed before handing the keys off or there might be a deduction in the price.

Oh snap, it's Mile's old car eh? Does it still have the pinks on it?

  3. Congrats? It's not that the story we know is false (that you have red leather on your steering wheel) it's just that it's not OEM which everyone including SOA will verify. ;)

^^Exactly. I bought #133 brand new. Actually, I had a deposit on her 7 months in advance. Rest assured, the only two options available on the 2006 were spt short throw shifter and rear spoiler.

I concur with the above posts, the wheel is OEM, and appears to have been rewrapped professionally. Its a neat mod, and it looks like its a one of a kind!

  4. Hi, mines a dark blue exterior with black interior, beige roof lining and pilars havnt seen any badges but I've been told from subaru it's a spec b, http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/08/05/ezata7ug.jpg

dvsstv, what country are you from? From the front plate, I think it's safe to assume you're not in the US or Canada.

    What color are your struts?

  5. 2006 spec.B came from the factory with a badge near the shifter that displays the number. Extremely obvious. All the 2006 spec.bs have the same exact color scheme too. Titanium silver exterior with a brick red interior. If you don't have that, might not be a spec.b unless a lot of parts got swapped around

This is only true in the USDM. SpecB's were offered in other markets. IIRC dvsstv doesn't have his location listed.

  6. Nice post  Is english your first language?

I doubt they become "collector's cars" - but I still find it laughable when someone claims that a color combo defines "rarity" when it's just a LGT... talk about reaching! They are all the same just different paint/interior choices. The early non limited LGTs with cloth and no sunroof are much more unique LGTs, and that option package wasn't offered throughout the years of the 4th gen LGT so perhaps that's "rare".

Any spec.B has quite expensive suspension upgrades for performance, NAV with a manual trans, steering wheel audio controls, interiors not offered in LGTs, 18" wheel packages, and were actually released as a limited edition at a premium price. The additional or perceived value isn't due to rarity. It is a performance model above the standard vehicle like a Mazdaspeed 6, a M class BMW, MR Evos, Saleen/Roush Mustangs etc.

    Point, set, match.

All cars can be collectible, but one must always assume they are a liability, not an asset.

  7. The SpecB's do have some nice upgrades over the normal LGTs, like barmanbean eluded too. But, if you are buying it used, it's important to note that your insurance company sees no difference in a SpecB or an LGT. If it's in great shape get it, but don't overpay for it.

If you want the aluminum control arm bits (the best part of the B), contact money(username on this board), he is parting out #273.

  8. So from the first Spec B # thread (http://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php/2006-spec-b-registry-old-22377.html)

    #296 unknown (Loveland, CO)

    #300 spec Bst (Denver, CO)

    #314 unknown (Longmont, CO)

Back then, people were updating the dealerships where the cars were for sale. As far as I can tell, #296 & #314 are unaccounted for as well. All three listed here started on the front range. Did spec Bst ever reply to you fallenhero?

  9. So, I've been doing some digging for you. The last 6 digits in Subaru VIN's are the sequential production line number. I have been searching other 2006 Spec B VIN's and it seems that they were made sequentially on the production line (i.e. 1 was made first, 500 last). This would be great if they were only producing Spec B's, however all the other Legacies were jumbled in there. But the difference in the productions numbers does not vary too much (maybe 5 in-between each Spec B #). If you could find out which two other Spec B VIN's yours is in-between, that would give you your number.

    Here's a decent start at some Spec B VIN's: http://legacygt.com/forums/search.php?searchid=12950402

Here's is the Subaru VIN information: http://www.cars101.com/subaru/vin.html

Edit: to add to this, I would go through all the FS threads, find all the VIN's with their respective #'s. Make a list of everything you can find. Then figure out which Spec B #'s your VIN lies in-between. Then if you cannot figure it out from that, PM the members on this list that would further narrow down your search. With enough ground work it can be done.

Nice info here. fallenhero - there are 580 cars between #133 and your car. This would seem to indicate your car would be between # 134 - 500.
