  1. ...

So now the question: am I the only one that runs into this issue? Is there something different about my setup that causes it to heat up more in the sun? Is there a way to change the max battery charge voltage and max discharge temperature to force it to keep working safely?

I’m running an ASUS brand anti-glare screen protector and the tablet is mounted via a hacked up case that came with it. I wonder if the screen protector is allowing it to absorb more radiated energy and case not letting it radiate back into the dash. That or the sugru around the edges of the tablet is transferring thermal energy from the bezel heating up?

I would expect the case is helping insulate/retain heat on the back. Unscientific surveys with other tablets in the past have led me to that conclusion. Curious to see what the temp would be in there if you had a sun shade in the windshield. I wouldn't mess with trying to get the battery to operate at a higher temp, I would look more toward how to keep it cooler if possible. Could you mount it without the case or drill a bunch of large holes in the case so that it's just a lightweight skeleton of a case?

  2. In my 05, I have Timur rom 5.x.x without any issue whatsoever. I also have (on my test bench) another nexus 7 with 6.0.1. It runs fine too but has one issue: when it supposedly goes into deep sleep mode (e.g. when charging is interrupted), the screen turns off but the tablet is actually not sleeping for some reason. The battery is slowly draining and that's not good. I still have not found out what is causing it.

Just to check, I powered off the tablet completely with a full battery. 3 weeks later, turned it on and only lost like 3%! When she is supposedly in deep sleep mode, she could loose 25% in a day. Not good. Anyway, don't know if that is related to your issue somehow.

What do you have connected to your tablet when in deep sleep? I had a USB hub and/or USB DAC that was sucking the power out when I was supposedly in deep sleep. So far the replacements are doing much better and I'm only losing about 1% per 24hrs of deep sleep.

  3. I installed a little switch on the inside of the console by the driver's seat to cut the power from the accessory convertor I have under the console. This allows me to decide when to power the N7. I'm going to put in the timer as well to help with ECU resets. When I reset, there are times that the engine cuts out when learning the fuel tables. This will muck up the N7 something fierce.
  4. What about Bluetooth for control? I have a 2007 HU in my 2005, N7 2013 via USB DAC and iPhone via Bluetooth and the controls for the HU will control the tracks/etc on the iPhone. I have the Aux (CD changer) emulation right now as I have SAT radio as well on my system. If I had steering wheel controls, my understanding is that it would work as well for controlling tracks and such. I like it because with the GROM, I can be listening to music or a movie over the N7 tablet via USB DAC and still have the iPhone on BT overlay nav prompts or phone calls. I think the same idea should apply if I used the N7 2013 over bluetooth...
  5. Why is everyone going to 91 in non elevated states? I'm at 1,300ft and we only have 93, haven't seen 91 anywhere.

Could be based on ethanol content or fuel blending for the area (emissions and such in cities). I'm at about 800 feet, and the only place near me with 93 octane is Costco. They're also the only place with ethanol in the premium, though.

...and, as I recently discovered, they're something like $.70 less a gallon for premium than pretty much everyone else. For $10 a tank, it may be worth the 10-15 minute drive.

In eastern TN where I live, it's basically 87, 89, 93; there are a few exceptions, but that's what I see. I drive down to Costco in GA (12 min) for 93 most of the time. But in central MO where my dad lives, 91 is the max, I can't find 93 to save my life. So I carry octane booster when I visit him...

  6. Anyone have pictures of a handgun holster mounted under (or mostly under) a 2008~2009 Legacy driver power seat?

I haven't done under the driver's seat, but I do have one on the side of the console. Is hidden by my leg from anyone at the door and very easy to access. Most of my passengers haven't noticed either. It's not completely hidden like under seat would be, but I only have something in it when I'm traveling longer distances. Super easy to do, just bought a left handed kydex shell, four rubber insulators and four self taping screws from Lowes/Home Depot.

    Empty:

  7. The 03-08 JDM Legacy Wagon doesn't use any type of crash beam due to Japanese Dot standards. Thus it is the shortest bumper length of all the legacy wagon versions in the world. My buddy used a EDM beam and cut it down to size + using the EDM beam brackets in order to have a crash beam on the rear JDM Wagon Bumper. Just FYI.

Yep, I'm a no-beam at the moment. If I can find another one or break down and cut mine I'll do it. But have a lot of holiday stuff to take care of first.

  8. Got the JDM bumper installed today. As mentioned before, I just removed my crash beam for now. I'll build/cut a thin one at a later date/time. I love the lines now, the rear is nicely tucked. This is the way they should always have been. The HKS Silent Hi-Power fit perfectly now, with reduced cabin noise (and smell). It's almost too quiet, might have to consider the HKS (or other) mid-pipe some day.

Pull the taillights and the two plastic pins on each corner.

On each side, pull the plug and remove the small bolt, there is a second on the inside, underneath behind the wheel well cover (you have to peel the cover back from the rear of the well and feel in there for a 10mm bolt.)

Bumper cover off and bumper beam removed.

    Dry fitting the new bumper

Replacement bumper didn't have the two metal braces, so I drilled out the rivets on me USDM bumper and re-riveted to the JDM bumper.

All done and installed. Love the look and difference all around. (yes, it's a slightly different white and will be for a while)

Now I can really see the 120mm Hi-Power and they aren't hidden under the bumper.

Also got a custom plate delete for the front.
