  1. Friend whose a QC manager at SIA said they came in under tarps and then shipped to chicago without showing the finished product..all they got to see was the shell

    Cool.

I can't testify to the Legacy as they only go down A line but I know B line has been seeing some Outback pilots.

  2. You win, so a CVT can shift a million times into a million gears that you'll never feel. :spin:
Some seem to be missing the point. While I respect those opinions, I simply disagree.

During normal operation, yes, the change is gradual. There are no shift points, simulated or otherwise. That's how it's supposed to be.

Under hard accel, yes, there are shift points, on this we agree. The reasons why Subaru added them is irrelevant. The shift point are real because the CVT "shifts" from one ratio to another. These ratios are list in the specs for the CVT. This is where we disagree and I'm willing to bet Subaru would also agree that these are legitimate shifts, not simulated. You simply cannot change from one ratio to another and fake it. Because there is no physical "gear" of a different size to the other "gears" is irrelevant, the size of the pulleys in the CVT change, creating a different final drive ratio.

Again, we dont have to agree, I'm just stating the fact of the operation. Shifting doesn't require gears, only a final drive ratio change from one to another and that change is the shift. That it occurs, isn't fake.

  3. Egos, ignorance and politics got the better of this thread.

t00ning Hitachi-based Subarus (for better or worse) is well alive, just search for what you need beyond this forum

    - easy to locate and contact who you need, plenty of ppl and firms out there happy to help you part with your time and money.

On the other hand - in this day and age, it might be best to just leave these econoboxes alone

and keep them as stock as possible. Should help with trade ups to Ascents and upcoming 7th gen.

    Agreed.

I periodically check this thread and look the forums over on the hunt for potential CVT or engine failures that may be linked to home garage (or pro) tuning. I'm very curious.

Subaru protects the CVT with conservative tuning, that's obvious. Defeating it is asking for trouble in my opinion.

  4. Dealers will continue to order 3.6 cars (if needed) until SOA tells them to knock it off and most likely a final available order date has already been issued. They have long since projected how many engines they'll need until the new model is available for ordering and have most likely stopped production on the 3.6 already, having built all the numbers say they will need, including any possible warranty replacements.

Production facilities have likely already began to ramp up production on the 2.4DIT to include Legacy and dropped the 3.6.

  5. Between this and DI, I am going to try to keep my current cars going long enough for (hopefully) all the bugs to get worked out before I have to replace them.

Good plan. I have no problem with DI, having been familiar with it for some time now, but the start stop crap is, well, crap. Maybe we should invest in ring gear/flex plates and starter companies.

I plan to keep my Legacy into 2021 as my general rule is "never buy the first of anything".

  6. Surmiser summed it up pretty well in post #9 of this topic, which I agree with. Plus there are a few other positive comments throughout this topic, including my earlier comments.

I was first intrigued by Fate’s positive comments about the Perrin steering dampener lockdown in this subaruforester.org post fitted to an SJ Foz XT. Having owned an SJ Foz XT I knew the vague indirect steering was similar to our 2016 Liberty 3.6R but I couldn’t find any reports of anyone trying it on a gen6 Liberty/Legacy to see how successful it was or if there were any negatives, so I decided to try it.

Thanks, this makes me very curious about the mod.

BTW, all the Perrin links in this thread seem to be dead.

  7. Simulated gears, not shifts. The shifts actually occur from ratio to ratio, which are simulated gears but still bona fide ratios regardless.

I'm not sure why all the heart burn over the CVT. Drive easy, rubber band, drive hard, simulated gears. But the ratios are real.

My only beefs with the CVT is HP being limited to protect it. And 2) longevity, though Subaru has recently offered extended warranties for certain models.

  8. Sounds like they're just trying to push the 2017s.

No doubt. Sales are down and SIA thinks it's because people are waiting on the next gen. The refresh is poop and offers squat over the last two years, for all practical purposes. Especially in the interior.

I don't mind, when I bought my car I fully intended to keep it at least until it's paid off. I don't lease and I don't swap cars around every couple of years. I like my car just like it is and want for nothing else.

Well, unless they come out with an STI Legacy with big HP force fed engine. :spin:

  9. I'm sorry, I love my Legacy and Subaru, but Subaru isn't in my future. The 3.6R is underpowered compared to a Q50. There's no GT or manual. An STi is only an improvement in power. As far add I'm concerned. Interior amenities, comfort and space are lacking. 2018 Legacy will not be gracing my garage/driveway/parking spot.

And a Q50 is underpowered compared to a Ferrari, gonna buy one of those?

I'm happy you've arrived at a place you are comfortable with in cars and can I assume since you'll not be obtaining another Subaru that you'll be leaving the forums and taking your Subaru disdain with you?:spin:

  10. I really don't understand the uncomfortable seat complaints. The premise is completely objectionable and one person's uncomfortable seat is another's dream seat. Stating they are uncomfortable is akin to saying cheese burgers don't taste good, it's a useless piece of information that helps nobody. Until everyone tastes the burger they will never know.

Here's a fun fact. I have the leather seats and think they are perfectly comfortable. Fully adjustable in ten ways, plush enough for long trips but firm enough I don't feel like I'm in a bean bag chair and the seat heaters do a wonderful job, toasting my buns when wanted or just keeping them warm.

And that, folks, is about as valid as saying they suck.

  11. Old thread resurrection.

What do I search for this harness on the Bay? All my searches have not come up with such a harness. I bought a NIB Homelink auto dimming mirror for the GF's 2017 Premium, mirror is 12 pin, opposite end of mirror harness is a three pin, car is 5 pin. There are only three conductors in the harness.

  12. I'm out of warranty so I said screw it. As long as you follow instructions I believe it is very straight forward. If you do not feel comfortable with electronic equipment then I say let the dealership do it.

    Absolutely agree.

I'm set to do mine myself if it's not covered even though I'm still under warranty. Really, it's not much different than doing the updates to screens we see at work in some of our higher line units so it's something I'm sort of familiar with.

If the dealer will cover it I'll probably let them do it. If not, I'll do it myself.

  13. ^Subjective question.

I'm guessing that if something goes wrong, yes, they'll deny warranty and charge you to fix it. I'm also guessing that if we do the update and all goes well and works fine, they'll never question it or deny any other potential warranties.

Out of curiosity, just today I asked my service writer if the update would be covered by warranty (someone here suggested doing it ourselves could void warranty) and he said he'd look into it and get back with me. Once I get a response I'll update here.
