  1. Hey all, I have a 2015 Legacy 3.6r that I was using as my daily driver while commuting 140 miles per day prior to the pandemic. It currently has 105k miles on it. I now work from home and no longer commute so the car gets very little use, and although I was going to sell it and get a new one or something else, I have decided to keep it. The car has been maintained really well, I know what I have, and it's paid off, so no good reason to get rid of it.

Now I want to start changing all the lights out to LED's, but I have heard that there could be some issues with interference if I do this, is that true? Should I just leave it as stock? Also wondering if it is worth it to update the firmware and nav software? Any other easy mods to do that are recommended? I am older an not looking to supe it up but I am thinking about upgrading the suspension for a better ride. What else? Maybe some nice interior footwell lighting....

I also need to change the CVT oil, even though the dealer still suggests that I do not do it.

Good to hear.. You can upgrade the Rear Sway Bar, Change out the 6k HID to 5k HID, add Front n Rear Strut Bars..

  2. I just had a very bad experience with the OE Goodyear LS-2s in snow. I was driving in central NY last weekend while visiting family, and these tires, which were at 6/32 at last check, were slipping and sliding all over the place in less than 2 inches of new-fallen snow, even with smooth, consistent inputs. I've driven my wife's 2011 Forester in worse conditions up there with that car's OE Geolanders and Michelin Premier A/S, and the experience was completely different: almost no slippage when driving like a sane person. I grew up driving in the area, so I am not unfamiliar with driving on snow.

I find it kind of hard to believe that Subaru sold the Legacy with these tires in northern states given my experience. I visit my family up there every year for the holidays. I think I am going to have to find a better tire if I want to drive the Legacy on those trips. I am curious to hear what other people's experiences and recommendations are.

There not the Best All Season.. Of course the Forester or even the Outback would be outfitted with better tires.. Time to invest in some Blizzaks..

  3. Hi. Not long time ago I've noticed that my steering wheel is not "dead centered" while driving straight. I didn't the alignment and the only thing "off" they've found was rear camber - left was off in positive numbers and right was off in negative numbers.

I've also installed Perrin steering damper. Could it be that?

Another guess would be the springs? I do see that my car is almost always tilted when parked (left side just a tiny bit lower than right - by a few millimeters from what it seems like).

Is that a problem? Or my paranoia just playing with me?

It looks like you put on a Different Steering Wheel if you did you need to go to an alignment shop and have them do an alignment and adjust the steering wheel so its straight.. I had to do it with mine it was off to the right so I took it off and moved it 1 tooth left but then it was off to the left.. So the alignment did the trick..

  4. I think it might be your Roll Connector starting to go out.. This is the Wire Tape plastic piece behind the steering wheel that allows the thumb controls to work when the steering wheel is turned left and right.. Mine is bad because my horn doesn't work now.. It was intermitten then would only work when tuen right 90° then 180° and now nothing.. My radio volume intermittently goes up and down by itself..

So in your case and mine I would look at changing the Roll Connector..

  5. Cool, I’ll reach back out to let them do it. I love everything about the Legacy but the windshield is the absolute worse part of owning that car

I agree.. But like the windshield guy tell me. The edges are the worse for Rock chips its the weakest area and for me all 4 of mine were on the edges. The middle of the glass usually can be filled if its small and caught early..

  6. So I’ve got a giant crack in my windshield. This is probably the seventh time I’m about to replace this windshield. So anyhow, I was wondering if it’s possible to replace the windshield with an aftermarket one versus going OEM. Installer said I wouldn’t need to do recalibration based on their installation method. Any thoughts? I haven’t scheduled anything yet.

Normally the insurance should cover the recalibration because it's a safety feature in the car. I would have the winshield repair company push the Insurance Adjuster. I've replaced 4 in mine and had to go around n around with my insurance and finally they caved.. and Actually they cover other cars that require calibration and have written in there Windshield policy to cover Calibration.

  7. As mentioned on another post, my 2018 3.6r was on the side on the freeway. Both passenger doors were damaged and replaced. The repair was about 5k and parts with repair took over a month. My collision shop was able to repair all the damages.

Enterprise rental loaned me a new 2021 Q50 for that time. And I liked how fast the V6 twin turbo moved with all the tech. It reminded me when I bought my first Legacy GT back in 2005.

I sold my 3.6r @ Carmax and they gave me about 27k in cash. The 3.6r is a nice car. If the XT looked better and offered a sport edition with turbo, I would have bought that.

But Subaru feels like they need to build a plain sedan with AWD and great interiors (touring). When I test the XT, the looks and handling is what prevented me to buying it.

We have bought 8 subarus in the past 16 years. We still have an Ascent and my 11 Wrx LTD. I bought a new 2022 Q50 but I test drove/researched other brands in the process.

The Kia K5 Gt is a serious competitor to the Legacy and other family sedans. Their turbo model is fast and is cheaper than an XT. You can get a car that goes about 0-60 in close to 5 seconds. It also looks sharp. I couldn't bring myself to buy a Kia. The handling was decent but ok. The FWD is a turnoff.

The Genesis G70 is a great car starting at 37k. It's about the same price if not cheaper in its lower models (compared to a loaded Touring) with a great interior and much better transmission (that the legacy) and offers quick handling. The looks are great on this car imo. And I almost bought it.

The Kia Stinger entry model starts about the same price as the XT. The engine was pretty impressive and its a fast car. There's more room than I thought. I didn't purchase this car because of the lower quality interior than the Q50 but its still nice.

For kicks, I checked I even checked out the Volvo S60. It's a great car with nice interior and handled great. The engine and trannny were very high quality. The price was more expensive for their lowest model but it was around 40k. I didn't go with Volvo because of the FWD.

I got the best deal with Q50. It's v6 turbo is fast, the interior is great, and I actually like all the tech like electronic steering wheel tilt, the contour seats, heated mirrors and steering wheel, and the dual digital screens.

I have had 2 legacies and they both served me well. Legacy owners deserve an sti or spec b legacy like the Outback gets a wilderness IMO for people that want more.

Good Luck and have fun with your New Car..[emoji41]

  8. Contrary to the post by grnlantern, the front wheel bearings of all Gen 6 Legacys are cartridge-style hub/bearing assemblies, similar to the rear bearings (but not identical). See attachment, from the FSM. Front or rear, it is not unusual for the hub/bearing assemblies to rust firmly into the suspension knuckles, making removal a challenge. (This is not just a Subaru issue; it affects all manufacturers.)
Thank You for the info.. I'm not an Expert Mechanic. Just remember how much a pain my 98 2.5rs was.

  9. Thanks MoleMan. I had the snows put on to rule out tire noise. There is still a noise, but not as loud. I was wondering if wheel bearings wear out quicker on an all wheel drive car.

I drive 10 miles to work each day and 9 of it is on highway, so I can check the noise level at different speeds.

Right now, I’ll call the dealer and mention that the noise better but still there. If it’s possible the front bearings are gone too, I may try the replacement myself. Maybe…..

You need a press to remove the front I believe.. The rear they replace the entire hub.. Hopefully it's just a Bearing issue..

Another person on the forum stated he had a transmission noise or issue and ended up blowing out the Transmission literally put a hole in the transmission and dealer told them something in the transmission failed.. Sorry I can't remember exactly the part and which topic..[emoji17]

  10. @GrnLantern1,

My mistake. I rarely look at any other Toyota products with exception of the Wife’s daily Scion TC anymore. That is a fine car I will admit. Problem is that any Toyota seat from 2012 regardless of brand/model(only exception is the LX models) hurt my back when driven more then ten miles or so.

Now the LS500 I have test driven and I can say that it is floaty. It’s on the same “Floaty” level as our Legacy’s in the corners. Have you looked at a Cadillac V series at all? I am just thinking the size and HP on cars other then a Toyota product. Or are you set on a bigger Lexus with four doors?

I prefer Japanese Cars over American Cars and have been looking at Lexus for the Reliability and Maintenance Costs.. They rank in the Top 5 last time I checked.. I've also looked at the GS350 F Sport but Kinda wanted to move up..

  11. @Grnlantern1 I had a 2008 ISF and it was one of the best cars I have ever had hands down! Power when you need it and a true sleeper as well. However sadly it was hit and totaled in 2010. But I look at ISFs like I look at WRXs it’s hard to get one that has not been abused and when you do find the right one you pay through the nose! Learned that lesson with the Wife’s S4 and her ever loving quest for the elusive six speed...

I am actually interested in the GSF and not the ISF... It's the Top End of the GS Series.. and Yes finding one from the right owner would be difficult just like you stated Wrx Owners who break them and sell them off..

  12. I'm having and issue with the tired cupping on the inside rear. Put the car up on the lift and nothing seemed out of place suspension wise. I am running the factory shocks and struts. Has anyone had this issue? What might be causing it? Any recommendation for struts to go with lowering springs?
Yes if you lower the car you might or should have to adjust the camber and since our cars have no rear camber adjustment you can try camber bolts or get Rear Lower Control Arms with Toe Links since they should be adjusted together..

  14. I have A 2018 Legacy 2.5 premium with cloth seats, front seats are heated. I have priced out leather front and rear seats from salvage yard, price is reasonable. Has anyone else tried this? I see some rear seats are heated, any idea if wiring is in place already?
Look up Katskins they sell Leather Kits..

  15. On my way to work, a car didn't see me and merged into my Legacy 3.6r. It caused about 4k of damaged because it damaged both my passenger front and rear doors. The wait time will be over a month until everything is fixed because the collision place is ordering two doors from Subaru parts.

I was given an 2021 Infinty Q50 turbo. This car is really nice. It reminded how big and bulky the Legacy is. I like the transmission and sharp steering in this car. I also like the turbo without driving stick like in my wrx.

My family has owned 8 subarus in the past 20 years and never owned an Infinity. Anyone own an Infinity before? I'm having second thoughts and considering selling my 3.6r. Anyone ever got in an accident and want to sell the car?

Damn that sucks.. Never owned a Infinity but I'm leening towards a Lexus for my next car..
