Can someone help me track down legacy roof rails or have the part numbers? Thanks
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Can't help you with the rails, but I always wondered what those BBS's would look like on these wagons. I like!
-
Removed side skirt extension, added JDM sport bumper, added hood vents, jdm aero splash guards, 1 of 1 Freedom Mount carbon trunk garnish, and Nameless exhaust.
Looks mean! Nice work, I like it.

I happened across a sale for 3 pre-hung doors on the way home from work... No u-haul needed!
-
This thing is glorious, keep up the updates!
-
Damn. Nice curves and numbers! That's on pump gas?
I might have to do that heated seat thing too... Thanks for giving it a go!
-
Sadly I dont have any right now, car is at home in the driveway.
But I has some others
The only rubbing in on the fender i circled in white - any way to trim out?
I took that piece off and took the Dremel to it, no rubbing even on a wider, larger diameter tire.
-
Got my 255s on the 8.5" Weds and surprised to say there is little to no rub. On a big bump the rear catches a little, but surprised that i didn't need to pull!
What type of tire?
-
OEM Reman! See if your dealer can get you one
-
I've been thinking about buying those for awhile now (but in a different size, since I have the 4-pots).
Where did you get them? And how much?
Locally, free.
-
I finally had a chance to spend a few minutes on the wagon last night, and installed a set of DBA 5000 2-piece rotors.
+1 to bling?
-
After I made that post I decided to bug Marshall at Cobb about it, he said the same. It is actively in development and should be available on the market this fall. I can't wait to blow up my car with E85!
Maybe I'll go ahead and install those Id1300's I have kicking around and hope that release date is realistic!
-
Great choice being financially irresponsible like the rest of us. Keep the updates coming! The photos are always great in this thread.
-
The wagon is looking sooo good. What did you do to make the rev D/F grille fit? Is there an existing walkthrough?
-
Nice to see new projects on the site! Keep the updates coming

Little off topic, what coilovers are you running now? Still have those ohlins for sale?
Replied to your PM. Still on RCE Tarmacs, will be changing to AST 5300's once I get them rebuilt (assuming they're in good enough shape to rebuild...). Ohlins sold to Magnusonsubie a while back.

Is a solution but already sold out.
Skf will make them, but needs a big order to make it worth while. Trying to get a price
Axles become a complication. Track width of the LGT is ~2" narrower than the 2005+ STI, so each STI rear axle will be compressed by 1" leaving its working range a lot smaller than designed. That solution may require custom DSS STI rear axle bars. Still, pursue it! No promises what I'm working on will be a working solution.
-
They have a part number for those axles?
No, unfortunately they were one-offs and there's no documentation available 12 years later.
-
I was up at our local rally shop picking up some fun stuff, and found out what the deal with my set of oddball rear axles is. It sounds like they were assembled pre-spec B axle availability to work a R180 into a LGT that made 703 whp on race gas... I'm happy to find out that I own custom driveshaft shop 27mm axle bars and cryo-treated CV joints!

~3 weeks ago, I drove home with Fjuan's sedan. Today, I finally have all the motors and transmissions out of the cars. Kip & Randy & Doug were a big help.
Clutch is headed to the machine shop to be ground down. Using a super flat bar (+/- .00005 in 10 inches), checked the flatness of flywheel & clutch housing. The flywheel is off 2/1000ths outside to inside. The clutch housing is off by less however there is a warped section. The 6 puck clutch is worn down to the rivets. Hoping the everything checks out. If so, I'll be overnight'ing a rebuild kit. :-)
Picking up a new Sparco fire suppression system next week. The current one still shows green, however, date of manufacture is 12/2004. Better safe than sorry. Bad memories of our lucky dog car catching fire and the fire system not working.
Sorting thru the transmission & drive axles. Existing config is JDM FXT 6mt transmission with LGT axles. New transmission is 08 sti with sti axles. The sti axles are a little bit longer. I can swap over the sti hubs, too, leaving 5x114.3 in front and 5x100 in rear :-) Need to re-read the 6mt swap thread again for a better solution.
Pulling the dry sump system this weekend as I don't have time to clean and refurbish before track day. I'm debating buying a KillerB pan & pickup to give more life to an older motor. It would be mean opening it up, something I'm reluctant to do.
Fjuan's motor will get new valve cover gaskets. Also, need a new oil cooler. Still looking for the mishimoto system i bought awhile back. Will be checking the motor very carefully looking for any issues.
The SmartStrings setup was delivered Wednesday and came with a demo and setup. Also a chance to talk with Jon Ament, who built my Spec Miata. He knows the ppl who worked on the SRRT when it was racing. He's put in a call to one of the lead fabricators to get more info and/or a contact. I'm super excited to hear more about the wagon.
Had a chat with Ezra1234, who I met on the way back from Fresno with Fjuan's car. He's building a radical quarter mile LGT. Outfront Motorsports v4 closed deck with sleeves and nitrous. He's going to convert to lexan windows and is willing to share the template with me. Lightening the greenhouse will help lower the center of gravity.
Picked up a HF 20 ton press. With coupon, it was the same price as the 5 ton. I'll be putting the new Whiteline bits into a S402 aluminum LCA & trailing arm setup.
Erik's wagon has the full STI steering race, including solid steering shaft. I'll be swapping the entire setup over. Was looking at the XRP catalog today, and noticed they have a really nice PS braided line setup. I'd like to clean up the current routing and make it a bit cleaner. Still looking for an electric PS pump and do away with the engine mounted pump altogether. Still need more the PS cooler to a better/more secure location.
Erik's wagon has the DCCD setup. Need to swap that over. Had to cut the wires to get the transmission out of the car. Left enough color to figure out how to re-attach.
Front of racewagon where the radiator goes is a bit thrashed. Debating whether to run as is, take to a body shop to pull out, visit a local junkyard and cut the front rails off, something else. The radiator still mounts up, just looks bad. :-)
I'm sure there's other stuff happening too, but been up since 6 am yesterday and today will be another long day.
Would really like to make the 17th track day in the racewagon, but it's not looking good at the moment. Going to keep pushing...
If you're using the STi front axles, you'll want 08+ STi LCAs as well as the hubs and knuckles in order to keep the axles in their working range. However, this will increase track width quite a bit so you're going to have to source some high offset 5*114.3 front wheels.
Freerangeracing mentioned 05 STi hubs are a direct fit for the ABS sensor and he used them instead of 08 STi knuckles.
Keep up the awesome work!
-
I have Erik's wagon which has his take on the STI conversion. The fronts are easy as literally swap the hub carrier and you're done. The rears are harder because of the hole location. His solution removed the abs sensor location.
I'll try to pull the trailing arm in the next 2 weeks.
You're building quite the collection of LGT's
I chatted with him about his approach to the swap - we'll see if I can carry on with the design I have in mind and incorporate the ABS sensor.
I have two sets of trailing arms sitting in the garage I'm working with - a steel set and a JDM spec B aluminum set with a Brembo-specific LGT backing plate to compare against. I'm all set as far as measurements go, and am working off manufacturer specs/drawings for the 08 sti hubs.
-
Area27 ? Or whatever the new track is called?
I would love to head out there - they don't have many public track days but I'll try to get out and make it happen. When they do, the pricing is $$$
I'm working on the ol' 5x114.3 conversion and may have a abs-friendly solution. If so, track abuse will have to wait until after that's done. No promises though, it's been an open issue for a long time as you know all too well.
-
So that's why you sold me the Ohlins [emoji38]
I found these a couple weeks after selling those to you, the timing was perfect!
yes, id only drop the rear some. see if you keep the wheels on the ground under hard cornering with sticky tires.Noted, thanks. I'm running a 24mm front sway and 21mm rear too.
What are 13k springs like on the road? I still want to be able to enjoy the car on imperfect pavement.
-
^^^ where did you find those?
Sourced them from the other side of the pond.
very nice!!Thanks! I think I'm obligated to start taking the wagon to the track once these are installed. Spring rates are 13k front and 11k rear, I might have to drop them to something more streetable. Beggars can't be choosers though
