  1. It wasn't my first mod, but what other expensive mods would you recommend to get more out of the intake? It's a N/A CVT, I'm not really sure what else I could do, I'm still very new to the car scene and trying to learn more, and I would love to know what to do next! And I bought it primarily because I like the noise it makes and it looks good in my engine bay and was fun to install :)

honestly man, coming from someone who loves his legacy, you bought the wrong car! our car is a huge boat and short of engine swapping or fully building the engine/tranny, youre not going to get a lot of power out of it

  2. Well, I went ahead and got a set - need to install it, but for that need to sort where I want to put the driver and the resistor. For you guys that already are running the LEDs in the high beam, where did you put it - just zip tie it to the light harness? (for the lows, everything fit inside the headlight itself - obviously not something you can do for the highs/DRLs!)

mine are just ziptied to the headlight harness yes

  3. I have one installed as well (for me the departure lights were the thing I wanted - and the tap turn function!) - so with the tapturn or a similar relay, you can replace any turn signal with an LED and not have a problem, or does it let you install LED brake lights as well? Or do you still need a resistor for the brake lights?

I have internally regulated bulbs for my brakes so I have never had any issues

  4. Well, can't argue with you if you have one installed. I was basing my comment on the fact that our cars aren't listed in the compatibility list on the TapTurn website...

    "SUBARU: 13-17 BRZ, 09-16 Forester, 08-17 Impreza, 04-09 Legacy, 05-07 Legacy Wagon, 05-15 Outback, 05-07 Outback Sedan, 08-14 Tribeca, 08-17 WRX/STI, 13-17 Crosstrek"

...and also a picture I found of the TapTurn has a slightly different socket than the generic CF18/LM449 I bought...

if they list it as fitting the 05-15 outback, one would have to assume it lso fits the 10-14 legacy :) just messing but yes, it fits!

  5. TapTurn doesn't fit the 10-14 Legacy. It's overpriced anyway IMO. Just search for CF18/LM449. It does the same thing and you can find them for $10. Or buy the one I linked to earlier that allows you to adjust the speed.

TapTurn DOES fit our cars...thats what I have but yes, its expensive. I bought it for the strobe features

  6. just buy a replacement flasher relay that goes under the dash thats made for LEDs...that way you can replace any and all bulbs in your car w led without any issue. Also Lasfit makes high quality leds that are internally regulated so no resistor required. I have every bulb on my legacy inside and out replaced w leds for well over 4 years with no issues

My CVT Legacy is tuned by the above. It's totally worth it, but don't expect to do it on the cheap. I would say either commit to modding and tune it right or remove the intake. I couldn't tell from your post if it's a 2.5 or 3.6, but I'm not as savvy on the 5th gen....i think they only paired the cvt with the 2.5 so it's a different cvt than I have (3.6R) but Ed can tune it.

the 5th gen 3.6r had a "normal" auto, not cvt

  8. I think the bulb/LED is the same, but from their website, for both the driver is hardwired to the bulb (no idea how easy it is to open/remove/replace) and the driver definitely looks different (and is labelled differently on their website) - they also some other stuff that comes with it - a second harness for each side, along with an anti-flicker/error cancelling resistor. The new ballast looks like you could disassemble it, but there could be adhesive in addition to the screws.

    good catch!

  9. since prices for them increase today due to material shortages and supply chain issues, on friday, i pounced on a set of fortune 500 coilovers for my 5th gen. Got the swift spring upgrade, "dewey-valved" (local suspension guru custom order setting), and 10k/9k spring rates. I know that seems awful aggressive, but with me having a daily now, my 5th gen can afford to go a little further into track slut territory, and in dewey's exact words, "i want this bitch to rotate". Also getting them shipped to a friend in wisconsin to avoid some tax, so ended up right at $1499 for the set. As of today july 12th, fortune is increasing their prices by $300, and i've been planning on coilovers for a long time, so i had to get in before the increase.

Also recently landed something kind of monumental: A set of full led sedan tails from yahoo.jp auctions. Various designs of led tails for sedans have finally started popping up on the auctions, and i bid on this set not-expecting to win it and landed it shockingly inexpensively, far far below the typical domestic quotes of around $1000-$1500 for something similar made in the states. This design wasn't my first choice, but it was in my top 3, so i'm still very happy with them for the price i paid.

  10. I honestly kind of forgot about this since its spring now and sunny most of the day but I decided to go with HIDs, the install is more complicated it seems (have to mount the ballast, drilling hole in the dust cap if i want to keep it) but I'll post photos and etc when I finish.

But its seems more reliable and the bulb can be changed if that burns out vs tossing out the entire light thing.

not for anything but you can buy just a replacement led bulb too

  11. May not be fancy as you all, but I found v-limited front lips are back in stock on eBay after a flipping year so I bought one...anyone else in the market for one I'd snatch one up while you can...dunno how many more they'll make given the "popularity" of this chassis as a tuning platform...

Edit: okay so I went fancy today. Ordered the lip, a new set of special appearance package headlights and a set of yellow fog lights. Front end Friday on a Thursday apparently...can't wait to get all this stuff in in the coming weeks and get it installed...

hope you didnt pay any extra for "special appearance" headlights...literally ever 13/14 legacy has these lights. Nothing "special" about them

  12. Thanks I guess i can drop the cap if necessary. Some people have told me due to the 'projector' style headlamp its probably better to run HIDs so the light doesn't 'diffuse' and they told me HIDs last about as long as LEDs so I'll probably go look for HIDs now...

the "expensive" led kits are desgined to make use of the mirrors and reflective patterns of a halogen projector unlike the cheap amazon crap...really just a preference between HID and LED. in my experience, HID will shine further down the road and provide more actual useable light but an LED kit will be much brighter directly in your foreground. It will still shine further and brighter than a halogen but ever so slightly less than an HID. a proper led kit will be a negligible differnce from LED IMO
