  1. If it's not consistent, I'd start with cleaning the throttle body and maf sensor. If it persists, it sounds like the iac in the throttle body is going bad. Just recently ran into this issue on an 04 Forester. The problem was worse with the ac on. No codes, fuel trims fine, fixed some split hoses and nothing worked. At a stop, the idle would dip to 500 and slowly go down to around 300. A new throttle body and relearn did the trick!
  2. Inner and outer tie-rods can be replaced without doing the whole rack. The boots and outer spring clamps can be reused. The inner clamp can be a pita but like Berge said, a zip tie will work fine. I'd recommend new hardware as well. You will need to rent an inner tie-rod removal tool from your local autopart store.
  3. I just bought the car and it was delivered yesterday from Florida (original point of import). I took it to emissions testing today and they failed the car as they said it had an OBD1 port rather than OBD2 so they couldn't test it.

Has anyone run into a similar issue and resolved?

I am in Arizona. I insured it as a classic car so will likely look for an exemption based on that, but wondering if there are any other solutions.

JDM cars weren't required to have OBD2 until around 2000 if I'm not mistaken. They put the sniffer in the exhaust for obd1 vehicles but don't hook up to the computer.

  4. I'm sure you have. I hope I didnt come across as challenging your idea. I am actually wondering what to watch out for and how to confirm axles, I am looking at another Subaru that has a bit of driveline shudder that looks pretty clean otherwise.

Not at all and I apologize if I sounded standoffish. Cv replacement is the most common fix when pertaining to a complaint of vibration only on acceleration. I've had shafts pass the visual and physical (check for play) inspection, so they only get you so far. You need to get the car up in the air, safely. A lift is preferred but level ground and jack stands will suffice. Have someone sit in the car and get it up to 40 or 50mph. You should be able to see one axle wobble more so than the others. A shudder sounds more like a transmission, center diff, or rear diff issue but thats just where my mind goes.

Liberty: The problem going away sounds a little strange. Not sure if you mentioned that before, but if you did, I'm sorry I missed it. A sticking caliper may be the culprit. Make sure the pistons compress the same on both sides, the guide pins easily move in and out and that the pads are not stuck in the brackets.

  5. It's P1457. It's a 1999 CRV. Last time I had it smoked tested, it passed. I can get the light to stay off long enough for the emissions test after a reset but it will come back on after 100 miles. Any suggestions?

The part in the first link is not actually a solenoid but it's always listed as one. It's a two way valve that is attached to the actual solenoid in the second link. You can test my theory by removing the two way valve to check for fuel contamination. If fuel drips out, she's bad and so is the solenoid. There's a strong possibility the little phillips head screws will be rusted so have a good pair of tiny pliers handy.

  6. Are these cars get older, these EVAP CEL's are really a pain. Replacing the gas tank on my LGT has kept the light off for the past couple of years, but I'm just waiting for it to come back.

My wife's Honda CRV has the same struggles. Same P0457 CEL has been on for years now. No one can find the leak.

P0457 or P1457? What year? There are a couple components that can pass a smoke test but will still cause the code the set. Honda has one of the more basic evap systems when it comes to diagnostics.

  7. I think some places realigned their facilities to take care of covid patients, while other facilities were kept as they were - a facility configured to deal with trauma like say "physical damage" is not really where you want to be handling infectious diseases. I think it's definitely appropriate to keep facilities like that doing what they do best because everything didn't stop due to covid - folks are still getting hurt!

Many hospitals are for-profit - so there isn't the incentive to keep beds open "just in case" - we have run into no/low beds many, many times pre-covid when dealing with issues for my daughter. covid definitely exacerbated the problem, but the underlying issue has been there for many years.

Maybe some places but not here. Odd you say that because they also have a cancer center next to where they treat gun shot victims. Many hospitals are not for profit. Any outstanding money at the end of the fiscal year gets spread out amongst the employees.

It's hilarious how many of you pretend to know wtf you're talking about, when in reality, you have zero idea. You guys would be embarrassed if you realized how wrong you were. Again, I'm not here for approval, carry on.

  8. Source? Context? Even if true, one data point does not refute the broader trend.

Note: If you can't (or won't) cite primary sources to substantiate claims like this, I'm going to start referring you to the PA, which is where posts like these belong.

At this point, the Pfizer vaccine has undergone the full standard sequence of "clinical trial" protocols, and has been approved for use (in the U.S.) for people age 12 and older. It is not "experimental." As is common with new vaccines, follow-up studies continue, in an effort to quantify the gradual loss of effectiveness with time and to identify any long-term effects (good or bad) of the vaccine.

I saw the numbers with my own eyes through the hospitals network. There's not someone writing an article and fact checking shit. You guys can cite whoever and whatever you want but I KNOW what I saw is directly from that hospital. Given your response, nothing I said will be considered valid because there's not an article confirming it and fact checkers saying that it is indeed true. I know you guys are used to getting smoke blown up your asses but I'm being 100% straight with you guys.

  9. I'd like to see the real time numbers of the overwhelmed hospitals. Not saying it's a lie but at the height of covid, our local, level 1 trauma hospital was empty. 2/11 ventilators were in use. It was actually the best time to break your leg. A normal 8-9 hour wait was down to 30 min- 1 hour.

Shall we look at Israel and say if the vaccine works, why are they having issues? Let me guess....it's the unvaccinated causing all the problems? All medicine goes through clinical trials, except you are the trial for the covid vax. Last I read, Pfizer's trials do not end until 8/2023. If it's so safe, why are the drug companies not being held responsible if something goes wrong? Meanwhile, other drug companies are in court fighting over the opioid crisis and being held responsible for people's drug problems that they did not directly sell to the junkies.

  10. I remember getting the flu shot as a kid and still getting the flu. I was told it was "a different strain"

Am I crazy for thinking Covid is the flu strain of the year? The new delta or whatever it's called is this years version. The flu has always affected the elderly and immuno-comprimised more than anyone else.

2 weeks to flatten the curve. Millions out of jobs, thousands of small businesses closed their doors for good. If there's one thing I've learned about our government, it's always "follow the money"

Rushed FDA approval for a vaccine that hasn't gone through it's full trial, more shots are necessary because the first 2 or 3 haven't worked. Not sure when the term vaccine changed but when I was a kid, it meant the shot would prevent me from ever getting said illness.

I don't watch Fox, CNN or any other news program. I don't listen to any conservative or liberal talk shows before any of you want to come at me with the "Bet you watch X or get your info from Y".

My opinion is based on what I see going on around me. If you got the vax, good for you. If you didn't get the vax, good for you. How about we mind our own business and let people live their lives. The unvaxed are not killing the vaxed and vice versa.
