  1. so thats the front and rear for all those models? i have read many times that the 04 sti were the best fit for height
  2. just the wiring whip, the top two bolts line up but the bottom ones dont. you could make an adapter plate if you worry about the thing moving around, but so far it hasnt loosened up at all with just 2 bolts holding it on. other than that, no other changes.
  3. in reading other posts i found a reference to raceland coils for our cars. if the coil overs were for a 04 STi will they still bolt on without any modifications to the original set up? reason i ask is they have a set of coilovers for under 500 bucks http://www.racelandus.com/subaru-impreza-gd-coilover-kit.html
  4. http://img204.imageshack.us/img204/1594/20120516131359215.jpg here it is! you can see the tail i made, its the cut part from the original coil paired to the neon tail so i didnt have to cut my factory harness. so far so good, but you really need to get the gap up to .045 to make it work correctly i think.
  5. oh ya! forgot my most annoying issue i have so far. well, really its a tie between this and the oil leak, but whatever... about 2 weeks after i got the car, it popped up with a CeL 301 and 302. i checked the plugs, wires and coil, all were bad. the cables were way over spec for resistance, as was the coil. replaced them all, and did the MSD upgrade at the same time. the car runs smoov as buttah, but it still pops the codes when i get up over 65 and start to cruise. i cant explain it or figure out what the next step should be. i dont even get a stutter when the codes start blinking, the thing runs better than my moms new SUV. any ideas for where i should look next?
  6. so, i always have dumb questions to ask, and lately they are all about my subaru i recently bought. im no stranger to tools, i grew up tearing apart cars for fun and profit. in my past, iverebuilt a 70 maverick, 74 nova, 73 coronet, 80 datsun 210, many different 260 and 280Zs, all kinds of impalas and other chevys, a 79 step-side 4X4, 80 cadillac, celicas, and more recently a 98 civic hatchback and this new (to me) legacy. i love working on cars, i hang out at my best friends shop and work on his customers cars just about every weekend. he gets free labor and i get to play with peoples cars. so, heres a short list of things ive done, want to to and have questions about. finally bought wheels and tires. did the MSD coil mod. ground kit "sport" mode springs/ struts for stiffer ride and lower stance. 11.4" brake upgrade passenger window regulator fix thats about all i can think of so far. now, for a dumb question. i found a 97 impreza wagon (im assuming base model, it has drum brakes on the rear end) that has front end damage, but the engine is pretty much complete. besides the oil cap, the only missing part i saw was the coil/ wires that i took off of it. what i cant figure out is what engine that sucker has, i dont know how to tell the difference yet. there were a few options for that year, but how do you tell which one it is? i cant seem to find the block mark that tells me anything. even on my engine (ej22) the block marak is partially covered by accessories, makes me angry. also, as far as i can tell, the window regulators are the same. the impreza is a 5MT, would it swap right over to my 4AET if i were so inclined? also, someone had asked me for a pic of the MSD coil so here it is. http://img204.imageshack.us/img204/1594/20120516131359215.jpg ill likely use this thread to ask a bunch of dumb questions as i try to learn more about the boxer and legacy, as well as post pics of my escapades and upgrades. if this annoys you, dont bitch at me, i have an overactive mind and not enough outlets for it.
  7. ill get a decent pic here in a bit when i go on break. as far as the dodge coil, from what i found out our stock coil puts out 28k, the neon stock puts out 32-34k and the MSD puts out 40k. i spose the stock neon coil would still be an upgrade over our stock, but i dont know how much difference it would make. or if the smaller gain would be worth the work into it.
  8. i have the ej22 motor, and so far it runs nice but my mileage is taking a small hit. i think its the plug gap tho, going to widen it to 45 and see if that changes things. yarp.
  9. finished what i want my wagon to look like when im done. im getting the wheels and tires this afternoon. of course, right after i tell my boss im leaving early to get tires and wheels, he tells me he has a set of 18s that might fit my car. he said free, so im going to look at them later this week to see if they are the right sizes and stuff. http://img822.imageshack.us/img822/5548/newleggy.jpg edit: aww snap, i just realized i never took out the rack. oh well.
  10. i just did the MSD coil to mine. the only thing i needed to wire it in was the harness off of a 96ish neon. actually i think i ended up getting it off of a 97. i cut the end off of my bad coil and used it and the neon harness to make a tail that fits onto my legacy existing harness, that way i didnt have to cut my harness at all if i decided to go back to stock. i also got plug wires off of a 97 impreza from a junkyard that fit it well, and have the driver side 90 degree ends you will need to get around the throttle cable issue. make sure whatever cables you end up with are to spec (5.8-12.something k-ohm). i also yanked the 97 impreza coil in case i wanted to try it out as well. edit: forgot about the plugs. i ended up getting oem platinums for mine, but gapped them to 41 since the books range stated its 39 to 43. but that was before the MSD coil, i think ill have to up that gap to 44 or 45 to accommodate for the higher voltage spark.
  11. ah, thanks. im not good with subarus yet, thats why i ask so many dumb questions. someday that will stop and ill ask dumb questions about other stuff...
  12. id like to get the performance as well as a lower stance, so my original confusion still exists. are the sti pinks (stinks for short? =P) a lowering spring or a stock spring?
  13. my biggest confusion about lowering my legacy wagon with WRX or STi springs is, are you talking about the stock springs or the lowering springs for the wrx/ sti? i want to lower mine for the look and partly the handling, but this thing will likely never see a track. its a fwd non turbo model, and i use to for traveling for work and family stuff. i would like to avoid having a sloppy suspension in any case, but i really dont mind it not being optimal for autoX. i can get WRX springs for fairly cheap, 100-140 bucks depending on whether i want to cash-n-carry or not.
  14. ill do that! i dont really have any markings on my car, just the bad sunburn and the smoke pillar from the oil leak...
  15. east mesa here! i dont know any dyno shops, but i do have a good tint/ audio/ video/ mechanical place in mesa.
  16. ive been pretty impressed with the quality of the existing braking system so far, that sucker stops on a dime and doesnt lose much control. if the WRX brakes are even better, that would be a cool upgrade. but i do want to have the ability to go back to the 14" rims, just in case. or i might sell off those wheels and stick with the 17s.
  17. they are 14". thats what i was saying. im going to be switching them out for a set of 215/45/17 soon tho, and probably lowering about 1.5" with springs. this is a dead stock car so far, not sure how much i want to do to it yet. wheels, tires, struts and springs is the first part after a mean oil leak fix.
  18. they say "ProLine Alloy" on there and have the universal 5-100/5-114.5 lug spots, so i dont think they are, but a buddy of mine that likes subis told me they were. they are 14" rims.
  19. heres mine right after i got the windows tinted. i have plans for it, but havent gotten to the point of doing much to it yet. i have other projects im already in the middle ofo for my oldest daughters car. http://img838.imageshack.us/img838/1187/twistylegacy.jpg
