  3. Well, I’ve put on about 600 miles post flooding. And the Subaru is running great. Went for a little drive to Alta Lakes this afternoon. At about 11,500 feet we still have snow and it’s almost august. I just replaced both front ball joints and the passenger side front wheel bearing. Some water must have gotten into the bearing and washed the grease out. It was a bit noisey. I’ve replaced the CB radio and the Blaupunkt stereo. And I had to replace the USB power supply for the GPS.   4. Baby Lions Back: What i expected to be a 2-3 foot deep puddle, wasn't. My car pulled off an amazing climb up the first part of BLB, then the trail drops off a small ledge. After the ledge, there was a puddle. The ledge was much too steep for me to back-track, so i had to go through the water. That puddle was about 60' across and about 30' wide and about 4 feet deep. Just a little too deep for the Subaru. The winch saved the day. I was able to find someone with a big truck to pull me free. Then a $650.00 towing charge to get the car back home. My Subaru was flooded, it was in the murky brown water for over an hour. Damage: Dead ECU -- Replaced via eBay.com for $90.00 Dead Stereo Dead GPS power supply Dead CB radio replaced clogged fuel filter replaced plugs about 2 quarts of water in the engine -- drained oil and changed twice about 1 gallon of water in the gas tank -- drained water in the transmission and differentials -- transmission flushed with 10 quarts of ATF water in the head lights -- cleaned with soap and water about 2 weeks to dry out the interior -- removed interior and shopvaced So far everything seems to be working with the new ECU. All the electrical, horn, blinkers, lights, gauges, wipers... are working perfectly. Engine and transmission seem fine, both power and shifting are normal.   5. Another lighting change: The lights below the bumper kept getting hit and bent off road. Especially in Moab, they both got nearly got knocked off the car. So i removed them and added the 12" light bar in between the 4" LEDs. 24" LED bar = 170W 12" LED bar= 72W 2x4" LEDs = 36W 278W of LED light. Plus the high beams is around 388 watts. Around here there are lots of elk on the roads at night.   7. Hi legaced, Thank you. The Legacy has been a great project car. Spent yesterday in Moab, UT it's about 2 and a half hour drive from Telluride, CO. Had to do a full tire/suspension test. And i have to say: it's amazing where that car can go. I drove a section of Fins & Things, no rubbing, no scraping and incredible traction. Lots of fun! Even @ 70MPH on the highway, the car rides beautifully.
  8. Yeah. With the spacers i did have to chance the hub studs front and back. The only difference is about a 1/2" offset. With 1/2" wheel spacers and the steel rims i gain about 1" on each side. The car feels wider and more stable.
  9. Hey 96outback, thanks for checking in. I actually like the steel rims better and there's no way the Grabbers would work on the aluminum unless i get bigger wheel spacers. I put the winter studs on the aluminum rims.

  11. Just got back from a off-road test of the Grabber's. And Holy S**T, the car roles of rocks like nothing. The tires are great. i went through huge puddles, lots of mud and snow and they where amazing. You're right Jdemod, i do love them. Also the car feels much wider and more stable on pavement. Hi xrayspecs, i checked out the rims you mentioned, but the Subaru rims work out fine. My car does have 1/2" wheel spacers also. That helps with clearance inside the wheel well.
  12. I did it! Just bought a new set of tires, General Grabber AT2 LT. 205/75/R15 and they fit.   13. Hi Jdemod, you got the General Grabber at2 tires to fit! That's awesome. The car looks great. It's never fun when something breaks, but at least this was a pretty easy fix. The front sway bar snapped a couple days ago. I got a junk yard replacement from a '99 Forester for $35.00. It only took about 1/2 hour to remove the broken one and install the new one.   14. After changing the reverse lights to LED i noticed that backing up at night, there's not nearly enough light. So, i just installed a 3rd light. Using one of the LED lights i removed from the front. i moved it to the back and wired it to the beige with red stripe wire that goes through the rubber grommet on the passenger side from the body to the rear hatch.   15. Hi Jdemod, The 1" lift spacers from Subtle Solutions are a nice simple lift. Easy to install and align the car afterwords. Nice job with the car. Hope you get a chance to drive. it.   17. About 2 weeks ago i started getting a check engine light with an error code of P0115. The translation for P0115 is 'Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor Circuit.' So i replaced the temp sensor $17.00 on ebay.com and it's real easy to do. Below is a link to a great page i found with clear instructions to replace it. What's interesting to me: is that the car is running much better now, so that sensor has been failing for a long time. Even though I just started getting the check engine light. The temp sensor greatly effects the cars' fuel system. The engine seems to have more power. It's nice and the check engine light has not come back on.   19. Hi 96outback, So recent updates are: about a month a go i noticed oil leaking under the engine. it turned out to be a blown cam shaft seal. So i had both cam and crank seals replaced on the front of the engine. About 2 weeks ago i replaced the rear struts with some brand new Forester KYB struts. what a difference that made. I've already started my summer off-road adventures. I'll keep this thread up to date with changes. Thanks for checking in.
  20. Doug6m, The front will be no problem at all. The rear is a bit of a different story. You will need to add blocks to push the rear wheels back. As you lift the car 2 things will happen: (1) both the front and rear wheels will pull in a bit. And (2) the rear wheels will pull forward. Check out pages 7 and 12 of this thread and you can see what i to fix this problem. Also i've added 1/2 wheel spacers front and rear to push the wheels back out. My car also has 1" spacers on top of the front and rear struts.
  21. Hi Doug6m, The Forster struts i used are about the same lift as the Outback struts. But the springs are a bit heftier then the springs of the Outback or Legacy. i think there was 1 additional coil and the steel is a bit thicker. The struts will interchange with out any problem. But of course you need the car realigned after the install. Thanks for checking in.
  22. Hi 96outback, yeah. It's hour and a half from Telluride to the Paradox Valley. To Moab, UT its about 3 hours. Paradox is right in between, and it's an amazing place to explore.
  23. At the bottom of Bull Canyon is the home of Indian Henry Huff. An 1800's cabin still in remarkable condition for its age. The road to the bottom of the canyon is scary in spots. very narrow, rocky with steep cliffs.   24. I know what you mean 96outback, I’m from New England. The same type roads: muddy, swampy, gravely and they turn into pavement too quickly. Out here you can find hundreds of miles of ruff but dry roads. Not see another person/vehicle, no cell service! And have really amazing views. In places that few know people about and fewer can get to. This is what my Subaru is setup for.
