  1. Yeeeee buddy! I think I'm gonna pick up some RE-71Rs before the next SCCA event (because they're really not much more expensive than the RS-3s).

100% the way to go. There are some people saying the Rival S 1.5 is the tire to have this year but there's nothing indicating that the RE71R is done yet. three out of the top 5 STR times at this event (1,2,5) were all RE71R. 3 was the Rival S 1.5 and 4 was the Rival S.

RE71R will be way better in the wet than any rivals though.

  2. Or you could move 10 miles north and own whatever you want, not need a concealed carry permit and pay no sales tax.

Also, love me some Piro's pizza, rice balls and everything in the bakery:wub:

I'm in this house for about 5-6 years as I fix it up, and then NH may be on the docket. I'll have to see where I can find something, as I work in Beverly currently.

  3. Learn me some 1911s. Friend has a sig 1911 that he picked up new for ~850, Ruger 1911 lists around 720. Ruger in my experience is reliable and there when you need it, but nothing special. I've got an lc9s that I carry, and my 10/22 is a hoot for what it is. I will probably be waiting a bit since I want to stock up on semi-auto rifles here in MA before Maura Healey bans those too. I'm a red blooded American, so I am required to own a 1911 at some point though.
  4. There is a reason the map lights do not light up with stock set up.

The trace carrying current from the pin to the FET measures 1mm wide. The calculator here shows that a 1mm trace can support well more than 2.5 amps (about 16 actually). So it looks like the FET's 30W rating is the limiting factor. The existing 12V8WAL bulbs are unknown wattage, though. Presumably 8W? With 2 on the original circuit, each would have to be 15W or less to not exceed the FET's power rating. But if they are indeed 8W, then the maps lights added would give a total of 32W, slightly exceeding the stock FET's rating.

I've been running this mod for years with no issues, as have many others in this thread. I went to LEDs though, so perhaps the lower power has made it work.

  5. Lol love that dudes voice.. "well.. didn't work the first time I tried putting it back together.." if anyone has done this. Does it override all of the CD drives so no CD function is available or just one? Not sure if it was mentioned or not.

Just one. And it overrides everything all the time. It will lay audio over your FM radio, or whatever CD you're playing, that's why it comes with a blank CD to play.

  6. I just reported that the mod worked. (I left it in the garage without even starting the car before reporting success)

I went to my car later after dark for first start. Headlights and driving lights flashed for a second when I turned them on-then went dark, highbeams=NO! Now nothing but parking lights. DONT DO THIS MOD INCORRECTLY

Replaced fuse # 18 (10A) by drivers knee. Returned wires to prior. All works as before.

I think they actually blew as I put it into reverse. I think it has to do with changing polarity on the map lights. I jumped in, started it, dropped into reverse before interior lights had a chance to dim.

    FTFY.

I did this mod years ago and have had great success. Others have as well.

  7. I live 10 mins from the NH border and often consider moving there. Mike, your business would be welcome here!

BOT - bought myself a VP9 for christmas, and the more I shoot it the more I love it. Will probably pick up an LC9s for less printing during warmer months/ankle carry as well since I loved the one I shot last weekend.

  8. I'm sorry if it seemed as if I was not bothering to read the thread. I actually did read the entire thread and did indeed see the previous post. Very detailed. I was hoping there was something in the "vacation pics" because I'm so visual and I like the backup of the illustrations and the like. If this list is what we have, then that's going to be good enough for me. Thanks guys.

Yeah don't think we have a detailed removal with pictures. It's fairly straightforward, I think you'll be fine.

  9. I'm going to have to do this and I'm deciding if I want to take the time to do it myself or not. I'm having trouble finding the removal procedure from the "vacation pics". I found the installation procedure thanks to this post on page ME(H4DOTC)-53.

Is the removal buried some place in the "vacation pics"

Post #85 (five above you) has a very detailed explanation.

  10. Ok It's been 25 minutes since I went out to the shed, took the starter apart, took pictures, assembled the starter, downloaded the photos to photobucket.

In the first photo, that's the two nuts you remove, after you remove the two long bolts the starter will slide apart very easy. You can see where I put red wheel bearing grease down on the spiral gear and some other grease on the three small gears, those come out with a light pulling on them with your fingers. I also wiped them down and put some different wheel bearing grease on them, that's because that was all that tube had left, I used a new tube of wheel bearing grease for the spiral gears. The different colors of grease is because one was marine wheel bearing grease.

Fine, fine, I'll do it right this time.

  11. This is complete badassery vs the civic driver:

Reminds me of when my friend was codriving and a similar incident happened:

  12. got a problem, i changed my map light leds Friday to a brighter 3 watt led and today i found one was blown and now the lights don't turn off. any advice. i hope the biu is not the cause :spin:

Does your dome light still function as normal? And if you disconnect the wire leading to the map lights does it function as normal? Once disconnected from dome light, do the map lights function as normal?
