  1. Electrical issues are, sadly, very common in cars of this age (mine's a 2005). Recently I discovered a wiring harness in the left front wheel well that was kinda wrapped around a corner, and some of the wires had started to fray. Add water to that mix and it was causing all kinds of chaos. Awhile back I had a mouse get inside one door and start chewing on stuff. If you have the shop manual and find the wiring diagrams, they can really help. I'm still learning how to interpret them, but I'm teachable Good luck!
  2. I checked fuse #21 (and a bunch of the others) and found none that were bad. I'm almost certain my problem with the driver's side window is that the motor is kaput. I ordered a replacement. When the window switch broke, it probably got stuck in the "on" position and fried the motor. I replaced the switch, and all the locks and windows work now except that one, which won't engage at all. The issue I'm having with the fog lights is, I think, separate. It's not the fuse, but may be the relay - just need to figure out which relay controls the fog lights. Electrical gremlins are the worst.
  3. Hmm. I don't know the answer, but may have a similar problem. My driver's side window won't roll down/up, although I just replaced the switch (which was also broken) in the door. I do get an incessant clicking under the dash. I thought it had to do with the climate control system, and had not related it to a fuse or something. But it clicks all the dang time. I also have a couple of dash lights that work intermittently, at best, but usually not at all. The Fog Light indicator, specifically. Before I go replacing the window motor/regulator, should I be looking somewhere else?
  4. Having intermittent issues with my '05 Legacy GT LTD wagon. Symptoms: - occasional, intermittent CEL - code reader fails, no connection (until yesterday, when it produced P1560 - Backup Voltage Circuit) - CEL will magically clear itself after a day or two - occasional hard start, eventually turns over - symptoms may coincide with wet conditions, but are random so it's hard to tell - starter battery was recently replaced, alternator tested fine Searching around, I found this Outback owner who had the EXACT same symptoms and discovered a worn wire where it enters the cabin, between the fuse block and the OBD port. Helpfully, there are pictures. https://www.subaruoutback.org/threads/p1560-not-the-fuse.458770/ My question.... How hard is it to access this wiring harness? Can I get to it from inside the car, or have to access under the inner fender? Recommended process? TIA!
  5. Actually, thanks for that. I have a few of those pages bookmarked, as we were trying to figure out of this part-swap is enough of a no brainer to do in the driveway. If not, I'll take it to my local (non-Subaru) guy. I'm almost certain the other symptoms were unrelated.
  6. It's plausible the smell and smoke might be from a brand new power steering pump/belt just installed as well, or the topped off fluids. I'll definitely keep an eye on it, but good to assume it's unrelated. I ordered an OEM knock sensor, we'll replace it and see if that solves the issue. Thanks all!
  7. 2005 Legacy GT LTD throwing code P0327 - Knock Sensor 1 Circuit Low Input. Symptoms were: Engine began notably hesitating, dash lit up (CEL and flashing CRUISE). Aborted our trip and drove it gently back home, about an hour on the road. By the time it was parked, there was a smell of maybe burning rubber and some white smoke which dissipated pretty quickly. Temp gauge was normal, but engine seemed quite hot. Oil and coolant levels normal. Car just had a fresh oil change and topped off fluids. Has been running fine otherwise. I searched the forum to find Knock Sensor replacement may be pretty common. Is that a part swap my local (non-Subaru) mechanic can do? Should that solve the problem?
  8. FWIW I'm on the east coast, and was told by my dealer they won't be getting parts until (best guesstimate) April. They're supposed to notify me when I can schedule service. I never got the recall notice, just heard about it through the grapevine. Subaru's website has a VIN lookup.
