Cool thanks for the info on the emblems. Luckily stevegspear is hooking me up. I'm gonna to buy a couple crown vic inserts, a grille, and an emblem off of him so I'll have enough to make 4 more after this one is done. That would fit an 08/09 I bet. It even has the bowing out look in the close up views, and you can tell by the shadows in that pic. I bet that would look nice making one of those. I almost have to make one of those at some point. It'd make it a bit more pricey at $58 though.

I'm getting 93013sa032 for a part number from subarupartsdepot.com. I'll have to look harder but everything seems to come out to $55 with shipping from what I saw. I look it up as a 2010 Impreza WRX emblem. It's how I bought it before and it worked out.

Prices seem to be rising on things though. I used to get the crown Vic inserts for $22-24, now all I can find is $30-35. Also the emblem that was $44 shipped was now $56. If anyone knows a cheaper spot for either of those that'd be a big help. Hopefully some cheaper ones show up.

I worked on the grille for a while tonight, and I'm sittin here adding some more adhesive right now to make it more solid. It's pretty much fine tuning certain spots at this point. Taking my time so it comes out nice and I hope to get it painted by the end of the weekend.

Here's that mesh. With it being an 08/09 grille that you want its a litte bigger; I don't know the dimensions, but it's probably an inch or two taller than 05-07 grilles. Regardless this sheet would cover what you'd need. It's 46-3/4"x11-1/2"x1/4". It's really flexible and durable, this stuff would last forever. I bought it as "modders mesh" on eBay. You could even use leftover pieces for fog light bezels or whatever you want. There'd be quite a bit left over. I'll sell it to ya for what I paid, $40 plus shipping. If not it's cool because I can fit two 05-07 grilles out of it and make some nice grilles, I like this stuff a lot. I just thought I'd offer it to you since you're looking for well, this stuff.

I've got a sheet of really nice plastic honeycomb I bought a year or so ago. I got it on eBay for $40. It's really durable and is probably 1/4" thick. I can post a couple pics and dimensions and would sell it to you. It comes black so you wouldn't need to paint it and it'd never chip.

We'll see, they're gonna pull down the headliner and look at the damage on Tues.

Ordering the emblem today. Sorry I haven't been quicker on this! So much to do and time just cruises by. All I have left is sanding and paint and it's coming out great though. Here's the latest time suck: Getting the runaround from the insurance company, having to move up the food chain on it.

Took a few pictures, and here they are. It looks better in person as always. Keep in mind this is essentially a rough draft and I haven't sanded anything. Considering black paint will be over all of it, it should end up looking pretty nice. It's tough to take a pic at a good angle but it has a really nice flush look to it and still uses the stock lip. I decided to leave the chrome this time. I've had a grille on my car that I made 3 years ago where I left the chrome and its held up fine. I'm going to wipe it down with alcohol and scuff it up more than I did mine. In the past I used bleach to get rid of the chrome but you end up having to replace the bleach everyday or so and you have to deal with diposing of hazardous waste which isn't really ideal. I've seen it first hand and if prepared right, leaving the chrome shouldn't be a big deal. So I'll paint over the chrome once it's prepared and good to go. That's where this one stands right now. I'll be in touch.

Hey guys, grille is coming out nice. Had a few delays with having to order more materials and vacation and whatnot, but I've been working on it a few nights in a row and have gotten a lot done. I'm very happy with how this one is coming out. I went with the slightly set back look like I was saying and the adhesive job is coming out awesome. It's very clean and smooth looking and I haven't even sanded anything yet. I've got it at work right now and a lot of guys around the shop are really impressed so that's cool. I'll bring it home tonight and get a few pictures posted. I've got a few little spots to add some more adhesive to touch it up and then I'll sand it all out. After that it's paint and primer work and it's good to go besides the emblem which is easy. Having made one already it's going way easier than the first time around and it shows. So yeah, pics tomorrow and I'll go from there.

Is it the inner insert that's chipping? Because it's a pretty slick plastic. I plan on scuffing it up more and using adhesion promoter this time around. It takes a lot of time to scuff up each specific honeycomb shape but if it's needed I'll have to do it. I was considering an epoxy primer but I feel like it's going to be too thick and it's quite a bit more expensive.

Adhesive dried up on me, 3-4 days for new stuff to get delivered.

Once the insert is attached and dried in the center I'll be able to press it into the sides a little more and everything will get a little closer. After that I'll attach each spot with the patch panel adhesive. You can use pieces of tape to make sure it all dries perfectly flat and when it does I'll sand it into shape a bit and you wont even notice it. With a dremel and sandpaper you can sculpt the stuff.

With this nothing would touch the chrome area but it also wont be chrome, it'll be black.

Trying the grille having the insert set back further to use the oem lip border more, rather than attaching it in the middle of it. It'll look more like this:

Not sure why it didn't link to it specifically but I just went to 2010 impreza/body hardware/grille/emblem. It lists it as 2008-2010 impreza emblem but it's what I got

I thought so but you could just measure it out and talk to the vendor to make sure it'll cover the center mounting spot.

Good job man, glad I could help ya out. Looks great. I was able to find emblems when I was looking for them for about $44 I think. I was just looking through my favorites but I'm not exactly sure off hand where I bought them. Just to give you a baseline anyways so you don't spend much more than that. Also make sure it's an '08-'14 emblem.

Nice man that looks good. I think the placement of the insert is right on. The whole idea is the S402 flush look and it looks like you've got it. Now comes the hard part though Good luck, it's not a fast process. Brings back memories! I'd like to make some more at some point once I have a good place to do it.
