  1. Running with copilot live for a navigation solution, and so far it run's alright. I only have the North East maps on it so it takes up less space on the SD card. I'm having a bit of trouble with tethering from my droid, but I haven't had a lot of time to play with it either. I'm guessing you have the WITS A81E+ or did you get the Nationite house brand?
  2. Sorry Nemo, Got the unit in the mail, i'm tinkering with it software wise. I'm just being bombarded at work and then I have to head down to see the family for 8 days around christmas time. So far the navigation software has been promising and wi-fi tethering is also showing hope, but it's a bit more cumbersome. The unit itself is adequate in it's responsiveness. I'll post up a new thread when integration and fabrication begins, but unfortunately that's probably not going to happen until the new year
  3. 2005-07 debadged QSM 2.5i on 91-S near rocky hill this morning around 6am. Skipy I believe. I tried to give you a thumbs up, but had to watch the guy braking in front of me. Then I tore asssssphault.
  4. Hopefully I'll get the unit in the mail this week. From there my friend Bryan and I will form a plan and execute. I haven't seen any other OBD2 apps other than torque, but then again I haven't really looked either. I loaded up both that app and the CoPilot navigation on the droid to take it for a test run, but the holiday weekend is not leaving me with much spare time. Spare some patience for me, friends, as I get my schtuff together.
  5. Haven't yet physically held the unit in hand. I'm hoping it's fairly easy to take apart, as this seems to be the most logical assembly method at this point. Still perusing though and I'm basically sitting on my front porch waiting for the delivery.
  6. 08-09 QSM LGT with a roof rack in Danbury. Looked completely stock to my eyes.
  7. Negativo. Estimated Arrival Date is now 12/01/2010. Feels bad man
  8. Methinks it has full android marketplace access, but even if it doesn't that handy checkbox to install from outside sources will be verrrry useful.
  9. My interface is unfortunately limited by either the vanilla android car interface (pictured here) or whatever I can homebrew. Keep in mind, for every tile on car mode is customizable, so I can throw Torque on any one of those squares, press the home button on the side, and it'll throw me back out to access navigation or music or anything else. It CAN work for what I need it to do, but it's not very pretty and it could be MUCH more functional. http://i56.tinypic.com/2ppk4sn.png Navigation is the easy part, CoPilot in the android app store downloads the US maps to SD card. It's not as nice as Google Maps Navigation, but that one requires data connection to download maps on the fly. Exactly!
  10. Update: Dear God, that iPad setup is hideous :| I went and ordered one of these. It's dirt cheap, so as a trial run it'll give me an idea of whether or not an Android tablet has the capacity to be a full fledged carputer. Consider it a litmus test. http://www.mp4nation.net/catalog/images/MIDNITE/images/1.jpg The physical dimensions, 7.08in x 4.33in x 0.59in, are smaller but similar to the staple Xenarc 700TSV which rides in at 7.72W x 4.88H x 1.42D. The only thing I'm really concerned with at the moment is how the screen will react to bright light. It has all the other criteria including GPS, bluetooth (for OBDii), headphone out, and USB charge. When the unit comes in and fabrication begins I'll pop out another update or two. Wish me luck.
  11. That's exactly what I want to do. If you end up finding something out let me know, and I'll happily do the same.
  12. But that's what I'm talking about. I solve enough goofy computer problems at my job. I'd like to just be able to get in the car and play a tune > I know this kind of undertaking is not for the faint of heart, especially when being done as thoroughly as you describe, methinks I may put off this project until I don't have to work 12-13 hours a day.
  13. Hey f1anatic, thanks for the input. Let me clear up a few things I may have been ambiguous on: I didn't want to leave the tablet hanging, and I guess my definition of portability is a bit vague. The initial thought was that it could be mounted the same as a 7" lcd screen like yours. At least I think this one is yours EDIT: Woops, got the link from your official CarPC thread, but it belongs to Stage3Legacy With similar dimensions, wouldn't the tablet also fit? http://mysite.verizon.net/legacygt/image/Picture_015s.JPG It's really all I'm looking for, at least as a starter CarPC system (I may be able to get the tablet for free through work. They'll let me play around with it.) But If I could get that form and fit with just basic android functionality, methinks I'll be good. At least for now.
  14. Meh, it'a not so much that it would cost a good amount, I just don't want to get hosed by buying something on the cusp of a technological paradigm shift. Samsung's Hummingbird proccessor is on the way out and Orion is coming up quick. I don't want to blow $600 on something like that. Good points on those caveats. A 32 GB SDHC is limiting for some, but I think you and I are on the same boat. And yea, android's car mode is pretty anemic but I plan on either running Navigation, Music, or Torque apps. Especially Torque. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OCZyxrS_ixY]YouTube - Torque on Evo 4G (In Depth View)[/ame] The thing I don't understand is your power control point. When I start the car I don't want to have to wait a few minutes while the software boots to post. I figured the tablet would have somewhat of an "always available" function, sit at idle for hours while the car is off, then charge via usb when the car is running and the battery needs it. I'm not sure I understand why you would need the system off at all:confused:
  15. Kind of. I'll refrain from commenting on my utter disdain for Apple, but that's basically the idea. Ideally I want an Android or dedicated CarPC OS, and IMHO the (iTampon) iPad is just too big and clunky. To the drawing board!
  16. I noticed on a lot of the carputer/aftermarket GPS builds, the use of a 7" screen is predominant. So with a proper bracket and mounting hardware, do you think it would be possible to just bolt a 7" tablet like the Samsung Galaxy Tab and run that as a barebones carputer that just does music over AUX and GPS? Maybe a few other things too, but hey you get the idea.
  17. 05-07 one of the blues LGT in the Lake Compounce parking lot. It was still there as of about 10-11pm.
  18. Swp lgt 05-07 with quad tip exhaust on 68 in wallingford just now. I beeped "shave and a haircut " and waved like a ninny.
  19. Anybody else from CT going to be at BWW in Windsor tonight?
  20. I got nothing this past weekend Although I did park right next to a SWP, MA plate, 05-07 LGT in a Durham NH Mcd's parking lot. The owner of that car came out and he did a walk around of Matsukaze. I wanted to wave around frantically and yell "spotted!" but alas, I was afraid he was not one of us.
  21. I'm heading up to NH from CT this Sunday. A combined 350 miles. If no one spots me, I'll be sad.
  22. 2006/07 Spec b. on 15 south exit 65-ish in Wallingford. I waved like a frantic ninny and you gave me the cool Guy peace sign.
  23. Spotted 2005 blue LGT in parking lot across from Black Eyed Sally's
  24. Excuse my ridiculousness, my eyes aren't so good at discerning grey and blue, and it was super cloudy out. It was definitely a Spec B. though that much I know for sure. Or maybe it was just in my dreams...sighhhhh.
  25. Alright, who was it? 2010 LGT in grey spotted on 384EB, around Manchester, CT. also, 2007 blue Spec.B on 495N yesterday, I pulled up next to you and waved but I didn't get anything back
