Just about finished with the Phase I fitting. I'll ride around like this for a while and see where I can improve. Cell phone pics until clearing out the memory card on the DSLR. If there is still interest I'll do a full write up on how I did it (spoiler alert: It's messy)

And like a stubborn arse, I proceeded anyway. Just snapped off the middle portion with some clippers just to get an idea of what it would look like. I'm actually starting to like this positioning, it might help reduce glare a little. I just need a way to connect the tablet to both the 3.5mm audio jack and the 30pin power port. Also I need to figure out a way to disable to screen lock and keep the display on at all times there is external power. That part shouldn't be too hard. Let's see what I can do in one night's time. Stupid Samsung, lrn2microusb.

I revive thee, zombie thread. With a a brief fitting. Like I said, I haven't been able to put ANY time into this kind of thing, but it's time to put up or shut up. http://i54.tinypic.com/5o9ged.jpg I was having trouble with the chinese knock off, so I caved and got a galaxy tab. It's MUCH snappier. The size is something to contend with though, it's just to wide to fit flush on the outside, but fits rather snuggly inside between the two vents. Still raises some interesting and fundamental issues. Like power, where the hell is it coming from? And it being recessed exposes some of the nasty bits of the bezel. The galaxy tab may end up getting returned until something just a hair smaller becomes available. EDIT: The tape is on there to keep the flimsy protector film on it. The measurements that I was working with in CAD were all wrong anyway. Does anyone have EXACTLY the dimensions of the Xenarc 700 TSV, specifically the model before the new 2010 redesign?

Saw what appeared to be an 08-09 LGT heading southbound on 91. DGM, black grille, driver was wearing orange hat. I furiously tried to wave from the northbound lane but I couldn't get your attention

I see at least over 9000 2.5i's everyday on my commute to and from work. I check for a wave from them and wave back if I get something, but most of the 2.5i drivers I see are grannies and the like.

Red LGT Wagon in Glastonbury parking lot near Plan B Burgers. My first trip out to that place and it wound up being free. Nice.

Unwarranted Update: I'm actually swapping out the unit I have for the new one with capacitive touch screen. I won't be able to use it with gloves or anything, but methinks between the jostling of the ride and stupid fingers I wouldn't want to recalibrate a resistive touch screen every time I started up. I've got a paper mockup of the way I plan to dock the unit, but it involves cutting holes into the drivers side vent so I may have to change that. Can I get the award for slowest progress ever now?

Blonde-ish in an 05-07 QSM yesterday on 84 WB near Manchester CT. I gave my usual salutations, you were not impressed.

Not going to get a lot cheaper than that, and if they are there is some MAJOR functionality missing like wi-fi, bluetooth, slow as balls processor, no real android market, etc etc. The galaxy tab which is the closest available in spec goes for $600. Quick estimate for this whole trial build is probably going to be about $350 total in parts and software, labor not included. That's a bargain compared to most other CarPC's (if it works that is).

Hit the nail on the head with the power and sound. I'm basically designing a dock that I can mount/unmount the tablet with, while still maintaining a flush clean look. Once I get some more time I'll post some pictures of the design, but as you can tell it's 12am and I'm still working As for phone use, there is no Mic on the tablet so I doubt it supports it on the BT profile. There must be a way to finagle some kind of hands free system though. Try this tablet! It's cheap pretty cheap. It goes by the Nationite Midnite or the WITS A81+e
