  1. You never know when they will blow... I think it is pointless to replace them before they blow because maybe you could've not spent that money and gotten more than 50k out of the old ones. That is the way I see it because my shop charges $1,800 (I live in the sticks, we get higher prices) for headgaskets and they recommend not to replace them until you have to. I have also known this shop and the people ever since I was born.

I'm doubting that $300 is going to get you a good HG job.... They probably won't machine the heads or anything.

  2. The 96 L still has to get the engine swapped into it then it will be sold. The white one goes to my sister, and the black one in mine :D I drove it home from Coeur d' Alene (40 miles from my house), keep in mind this is the 4th time I've driven stick. I was happy to get home! I want to keep driving it all the time so I can get used to shifting and starting out. Pictures of the car tomorrow hopefully!
  3. Yeah that is how I felt with my car. It went into the shop for something minor not to long ago and then they told me that the timing belt needs to be done, the head gaskets will blow eventually, my tranny was nearing the end, my valve cover gaskets are leaking, the oil pump is leaking and my struts up front are shot and I needed new tires. After hearing all that I was ready for someone to come along and total the car honestly.. I was so irritated.

So what did I do about it? I got new tires, did the timing belt, put a low mileage tranny in and that is where I stand right now. Little by little I chip away at stuff. But I'm the same way with my car (sentimental reasons).
