Ha I was so wrong, I forgot these things go by 2's! Wow, I feel dumb!
-
Depends, L and GT/outback have different speedos. And 95-97 and 98-99 have different speedos
Yes I know, but I know he has a 99 and it has the same speedo as the 98.. 95-96 are the same, gauge cluster was changed for 97, then was changed again for 98-99. That is what I have gathered.
-
I always thought it started at 15 mph on 98-99 Legacys. My reasoning.... Subtract 5 tick marks from 20 and it is 15.
-
Speedometer starts at 15 mph...
-
Is this in your GT? 98's didn't come with that gauge cluster.
And you don't hate it yet?I just swapped a 2.2 into mine.
And now that I'm in the 2nd gen thread I can't get yelled at for posting this

It is usually somewhere in between 100-200k. Some people's will go before 100k but I haven't heard about too many of them going that early. I'm at 128k in one car and 142k in the other and both have original head gaskets.
-
You never know when they will blow... I think it is pointless to replace them before they blow because maybe you could've not spent that money and gotten more than 50k out of the old ones. That is the way I see it because my shop charges $1,800 (I live in the sticks, we get higher prices) for headgaskets and they recommend not to replace them until you have to. I have also known this shop and the people ever since I was born.
I'm doubting that $300 is going to get you a good HG job.... They probably won't machine the heads or anything.
-
Every place I have gone to says not to replace them until they blow. Just dont be stupid about it when they blow and keep driving the car while it is hot.
-
Put some miles on my GT today and noticed that it actually has 228k. haha. It drives pretty nice. Still getting used to seeing the spoiler thing on the trunk.
The spoiler and hood scoop are my favorite parts of these cars!
127,7XX miles on my white one and 141,8XX on my black one.

^Damn I wish I had that many miles on mine! Pics?

Haha, well it's my thread and I don't care! I'm procrastonating on hw also...
My car has some sort of lightened flywheel, it starts with an F. And the clutch is an exedy clutch. It grabs really good and the shifts are good. Just a sloppy shifter, that's be fixed later though not urgent right now.
-
I don't shift into first while I'm moving... I saying when I put it into first when I go to take off again..
-
Yeah that is how this car is! It is a little hard to push it into first too. One plus is that the car came with a Haynes Manual and I've been wanting one.
-
Haha yeah, it was pretty bad at one stoplight.. I sat there the whole time it was green lol I was so pissed off... Then I realized I still had it in 3rd. I took off immediately after I got in back into 1st. Even though I'm not that great at driving stick yet I already like it a lot better than an auto!
-
The 96 L still has to get the engine swapped into it then it will be sold. The white one goes to my sister, and the black one in mine I drove it home from Coeur d' Alene (40 miles from my house), keep in mind this is the 4th time I've driven stick. I was happy to get home! I want to keep driving it all the time so I can get used to shifting and starting out. Pictures of the car tomorrow hopefully!

Brought my $1,300 1998 LGT home! Engine runs great! It shakes on the highway though, I think the tires need to be rebalanced, get some struts, and an alignment and I'll be good to go
141,7XX miles

I found this one in Eugene, Oregon. Thought maybe you guys would like to take a look at it... 1998 LGT ~62k miles.

Its an auto. She is an older woman that lives in town and never leaves. She only drives around town and every once in a while her kids will take it on a trip.

A lady that always comes to my work now has 27,446 miles on her 1999 Legacy Outback Limited.

I'm looking into the Yokohama Avid Envigors for my car, I like the tread design lol

Make that two!
Even the elderly have tons of miles on their Subaru's around here!

^I know, right? Let me in on these low mileage Subaru's!
-
Yeah that is how I felt with my car. It went into the shop for something minor not to long ago and then they told me that the timing belt needs to be done, the head gaskets will blow eventually, my tranny was nearing the end, my valve cover gaskets are leaking, the oil pump is leaking and my struts up front are shot and I needed new tires. After hearing all that I was ready for someone to come along and total the car honestly.. I was so irritated.
So what did I do about it? I got new tires, did the timing belt, put a low mileage tranny in and that is where I stand right now. Little by little I chip away at stuff. But I'm the same way with my car (sentimental reasons).

http://spokane.craigslist.org/cto/2095203548.html - Speaking of high mileage, hears an Outback from around where I live.
987687, in that mileage range (I'm closed to it too) it seems like a lot of things start to go wrong with cars but once you get passed it and get those things repaired you are good to go! But that is why most people ditch their cars around 100k.
How many miles are on your 2nd gen Legacy?
