I have a Yakima and love it (see above pic). I can't say much about the Thule racks because I've never had or looked at one because I got a great deal on my Yakima used. Once you get the towers, clips, and bars set the first time it only takes 5 minutes to put the rack on whenever you need it.

 

Another cool feature from Yakima is the SKS lock system. You buy the number of cores that you need (I have 6, one for each tower and one each for the front and rear snowboard mount) and one key will lock all of the cores. You can order more cores with the corresponding key pattern if you add more accessories as well.

The only problem is that people charge a lot more for them than a lot of aftermarket sets go for. Typically you see those spec.b wheels going for around $800-1k in good condition, which is more than enough to get some enkei, cheaper OZ, or rotas. Plus they're only 7" wide, and most people go with at least a 7.5" usually 8" or 8.5"

I'll make sure to keep the pizza on the passenger seat with the seat heater on full blast on the way up to keep it warm.

I know someone from up in the Lemont area. If I ever pay a visit there, I'll definitely have to check out this car when its done.

^You should do it. And then see how they react when they pop the hood. I'd be willing to bet that some dealerships' service departments wouldn't realize it was the wrong engine.

Your mechanical knowledge never ceases to amaze me. The fact that you are custom machining almost every single little piece that I would never have thought would need to be replaced to make this all work is just awesome.

 

I can't want to see some dyno charts and some videos of Dr. Frank_stersteins monster.

He custom fabbed the plates to keep his LGT tranny to keep the AWD system in tact.

08 and 09 have like 8 screws holding it in. They are virtually impossible to see and you have to really kink your arm around to reach them. You can use a mirror and flashlight to get an idea where the screws are to reach back and try to undo them. There's a pic floating around somewhere that tells you where they're all located.

 

Or you can take off the whole bumper and make things easier as far as finding the screws, more of a pain in terms of putting it all back together.

You can make your own. There's a thread here about taking apart and repainting your badges. My trunk badge is silver stars with a black background instead of blue.

I just got in a set of push rods in as well with bunch of fittings for the fuel system and turbo drain. So I will assemble the rest of the engine and drop that bitch in !

 

Can't wait to see the rest of the build. I think it is freaking awesome that you have the mechanical knowledge and ability to be able to do this kind of swap. It will be awesome.

Its glued on, but there are locator pins on the back, so there will be holes if you take that badge off. Its the only one like that though.

What kind of boost are you going to be running with this turbo? Any thoughts on an external waste gate set up?

Been keeping up with this thread for a little while and finally decided to subscribe. Can't wait to see more pics as it comes along.

Use the spare tire jack and slowly crank it back up until the holes line up and you can slide the bolt in. Make sure the round part of the strut is nestled into the grooved part of the spare tire jack. You'll know what I'm talking about when you look at it.

Yeah. Just place the stands where you would to change the oil in the front and where you would to change a tire on the rear. We had all four corners up off the ground when we did mine with the stands on the notched part of the frame rail with no issues. And we had to do some serious pulling to get some of those bolts loose.

^ mine are all just tightened down. The only thing I torque is my lugs to make sure they're all the same.

I didn't use spacers on mine, but if I was doing it again, I would probably do 1/4" on the rears. It has a little butt sag to it.

I just did my H-tech's last Monday and it went smoothly with the help of these instructions and some local subie guys that have done springs before.
