  1. I'm not sure on the Thule set-ups, but the Yakima base for a Legacy calls for 48" cross bars and a 44" fairing.
  2. The clips hook into the window frame, not the body itself. You may end up with some swirling under the foot pads, but if you throw down some clear bra type material you can avoid that.
  3. This guy used oak for the crossbars and poplar to create rails. Pretty sweet idea. http://blankmediagroup.com/Pictures/Mike/E28-%20Black/Redefined/stainedwoodnowm.jpg http://blankmediagroup.com/Pictures/Mike/E28-%20Black/Redefined/Rackdone3.jpg BTW the build for the BMW this came off of is phenomenal. For anyone that has a few hours to kill, here's the link http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1536530
  4. I actually kinda like the poke. I've also debated using actual wood to make my own crossbars and custom rack setup like I've seen around the interwebz.
  5. I love my railgrabs on my WRX wagon. I rock the rack year round, whether I have any attachments on or not (right now I only have my snowboard mount, but will be adding a bike rack soon too). Not a Legacy, but here's my wagon roof rack. The only thing that bothers me is that 48" crossbars are longer than necessary, but there isn't a shorter option. The bars poke a little from the railgrabs. Just the rack: http://i939.photobucket.com/albums/ad236/flat4LGT/IMAG0279.jpg And the rail poke, hellaflush style: http://i939.photobucket.com/albums/ad236/flat4LGT/DSC01107.jpg And a little bit further out: http://i939.photobucket.com/albums/ad236/flat4LGT/IMAG0285.jpg
  6. Sexy wheels, but expensive and heavy too. The emotion series is cast aluminum and pretty heavy for their size. I had some 18x8 XD9s that weighed around 23-24lbs each vs my Rays that come in at 18lbs for 18x8.5.
  7. Sorry man. I thought that I could just reuse the fairing. But the space between my roof rails is a foot narrower.
  8. I have a 44" Yakima fairing that's been sticker bombed with various go-fast parts and outdoor company stickers that I don't need anymore. Its seen better days and the stickers may or may not be your style, so $20 (that includes shipping and paypal fees) takes it home. It has the mounting hardware, but the foam pads that keep the plastic from scratching the roof may need replacing Pic shows the fairing plus or minus a few stickers. http://i939.photobucket.com/albums/ad236/flat4LGT/DSC_0446.jpg
  9. I would definitely run the +38 vs the +48. I had 18x8.5s with a 48 offset and there was not a lot of inboard clearance, so I would think that running a wider wheel would be close. If you're willing to do the fender mods, go ahead and do the +38 and roll/pull and run some negative camber. Tire choice will make as much difference as offset when it comes to rubbing and clearance. Some tires run wider than others even with the same specs.
  10. ^Exactly. That's what I had to do before I got my pass through set.
  11. What do you mean when you say the top mounts? Bolting the struts into the frame or bolting the top hat to the strut housing? If its the latter, you're going to want to use an air impact or find a set of pass through sockets so you can hold the center with an allen wrench/key and still use a socket to tighten it down. Without pass throughs or an impact gun, you'll have to rig something up using a set of vise grips and a regular socket.
  12. So were white wheels, but they've made a bit of a comeback. I may be biased though.
  13. If you want pricier authentic JDM wheels, check out RavSpec's threads in the vendor area. He sells the sexiest wheels on the site; Advan, Rays, Work, etc. They use higher quality manufacturing techniques* to maintain high strength and light weight. Don't let the sticker prices scare you away, I got my Works and my Rays through him for a hell of a discount below retail. *This is not to say that XXR, Rota, etc use poor manufacturing techniques and they are going to break over a tiny bump in the road, simply that it is documented that the well known Japanese companies use different manufacturing techniques that are considered higher quality practices (forged metals, sidecuts for lightening, etc)
  14. At that price range, you're pretty much stuck with those places. Discount, tirerack, and wheeldude. You're going to be looking at heavy, cast wheels for the most part.
  15. Just go check out the low legacy thread. Most of them are running 9s and 9.5s.
  16. Yeah. The link I posted takes it to the right place, I just got overexcited while typing and put the wrong number.
  17. It's cool. It was in a different thread where someone asked the same question.
  18. ^What Jake said. There's a small (I believe 8mm) bolt just above the throttle body that hold the BPV return hose in place against the mani. If you take it off, and unclamp the hose from the BPV itself, you should have some wiggle room to try to make it fit. I've been having some fitment issues with my Gimmick inlet, so if you're having hassle with the Perrin one, I wouldn't go for anything other than an OEM one if you go another route. I had to buy a new hose for the PCV return and T the boost control and evap return hoses together to make it all fit.
  19. I used mine a bunch for trips up to Michigan for snowboarding. Its nice to be able to fit 3-4 people in one car instead of having to drop the rear seats and lose room for 2 potential passengers. Assuming everyone packs appropriately, you can fit all the gear (jackets, boots, pants, etc) in the trunk, put the boards on top, and have room for all 4 people. It works great, but the gas mileage sucks with boards on top. I dropped to 19-20ish on the highway from almost 24.
  20. I really like the front mount so far. Tuning didn't go as planned because my turbo inlet is shot, but I think the core and piping size of the racerX FMIC is going to pair very well with the 18g. I bet your car will look sick with a rack. I'm hoping to have the funds to get the front fenders rolled/pulled and get an anti-lift kit to go lower next spring when I swap back from winter to summer.
  21. Yakima rack set up. I rock a freshsesh 4 board rack during the winter, but its still like 80* around here. http://i939.photobucket.com/albums/ad236/flat4LGT/DSC_0446.jpg
  22. I would totally rock out a giant vinyl on my hood at every autocross/track event I did if the 08s come through. And I would save a spot for another sticker on my roof rack fairing that I rock all winter long.
  23. I think that's new for 5th gens. IIRC the 4th gens don't have any special locking nuts. you just torque the heck out of them and hope they don't come loose.
