I have a cheapo lillipute 7" which works fine in the sun. It's all about the angle it's set into the bezel.
-
One thing to note - ECM is warrantied for 8 years or 300k miles or something nuts like that.

I recently Sold my legacy and have some items from my carputer project.
I have a info Display relocation kit. Part#H0017AG931. which moves the clock to were the ash tray is. Same as this one http://www.avojdm.com/product_info.php?products_id=107&osCsid=414b36ee30b5e4f2735e5f01d0bc7e63
I also have Vent dash piece i modified to put a screen in. Which is great if you are thinking of starting a screen project.
Let me know if you are interested.
You should post this in member classifieds with pictures and prices.

That's what I did when I built mine... Now, I did mine QUITE a bit differently than most people do it. I chopped up the LCD surround quite a bit, but it was to make it smooth rather than like in your picture where you can tell where the screen bezel is.
The way I did this was... I got both parts ready, used glued popsicle sticks on the inside (the part that is inside the dashboard) to hold the screen bezel in the exact position I needed. For the actual molding part, I used "Dynatron". It's a polyurathane bumper repair kit. Mix 2 chemicals together (like epoxy) and work VERY quickly to form your screen onto the car bezel. It WILL take 4 or 5 coats, dont try to glob it all on at once, just layer it, sand it, layer it, lather rinse repeat.
Reasoning for the Dynatron was this: I was going to use fiberglass and bondo, but I had read a lot of posts that people mentioned they experience cracking and chipping within a few years. Dynatron is semi flexable, and will not vibrate things loose, and will not chip and crack after years. It was actually very nice to work with, and bonded extremely well to the car bezel. That was another point of possible issue, how well the fiberglass and bondo would adhere, and not loose that adhesion over time.
The biggest factors of any proper looking build are this: Time and lots of sanding. Also, make sure you take the screen out of the bezel before you start (cant remember where, but I recall someone that just taped over the screen and tried to do this kinda stuff... wasnt pretty).
I've actually found that you can stick the GPS onto the under side of the arm rest, it works right through the plastic and because it's low, and in the center of the car below the sun roof, it still works extremely well. As well as getting it out of sight so the car maintains the stock look.

Nah, that thing is actually practical.

so many donks captured on one short vid.

i have no need for a smartphone w/ data plan. so the extra $30-50/mo whatever verizon charges wouldnt be worth it for the occasional roadtrip.
I'm assuming if i put in a wireless card though i can tether off wi-fi spots like at rest stops and stuff?
i should really make a thread with all my questions some day.
Yeah, if wifi is available, and hey if you're road tripping with friends you can always tether off one of their phones as well.
My carpc is a laptop with bluetooth and wifi which I tether via wifi to my smart phone.

tethering through T-Mobile I've had no problems with a constant connection. It slows and lags from time to time but overall it's pretty good. Good enough to listen to internet radio.

Probably just a skin for riderunner. I like elite for mine.

Ah, both cars and drivers are stupid.

Yeah it's great. Watched that POS movie 'Armored' on the way up to the high country today. It really helps deal with the parking lot known as i70

^ That's a Lilliput EBY701-NP/C/T
It works great, the only issues I've experienced with it, is on the extremely cold days, say 5F degrees or lower, I'll have to hold the power button down and turn it off and on again, because it just won't power up, too cold, but other than that, it's worked like a charm.

You might have to scrap that monitor and go with something that actually fits out side the bezel. The mp3car guys have gone through just about every monitor you can think of and have measured the actually screen size out side the bezel to get an idea of the actual size.

Question - for those that have done this, do the fogs still shut off with the car when the key is turned off?

Some images I grabbed last night, sorry for the blurriness, the hologram focusing was not working right, but you can see the color which is what really counts here:

And the side vent as a reference

Quick and painless, one thing to note is the plug is plugged into a receptacle mounted to a dash bulkhead to the left (about 3") directly above the clutch peddle. Also, I found that I had to remove the popits at the bottom of the dash and pull the black plastic cover away.

I'll grab one tonight. Was going to try to do it last night but forgot to bring the camera with me =)

Ok Here they are, in the car.
This is the screen bezel:

And this is the side vent for reference, both taken at the same time, same white balance same lighting:

maybe you yanked something else out of there as well =)

So to follow up on my posting. I still haven't had a chance to snap shots of the screen in the car. Hopefully I'll have time today. But in other news, I took the car in to get detailed, well the folks there decided that the screen bezel needed some vinyl polish. Long story short I'm extremely pleased with how it looks. The polish darkened the bezel just enough to _exactly_ match the OEM finish.

The `CIG' circuit is on a relay, at least from what I can tell, and once it the car is powered down, the circuit is shut off. (At least on my 06 LGTL).
Funny you should mention that though, I did almost kill the battery leaving the map lights on all night after a late night of final installation =)
