  1. GI parts for the M14 dried up long ago, leaving inferior commercial Springfield parts for the current M1A’s. I’ve had two of them, and will not have another one. The M14 was a shitty design when adopted, and unlike wine time hasn’t improved it.
  2. Speaking of expensive pistols, talk me out of selling some of my guns and finding a Nighthawk Custom 9mm built on a 2011 frame, with their new optic mounting system.
  3. I already have popped the $3K handgun cherry, and will do it again soon.
  4. A new Korth Mongoose is on my list, with an auxiliary 9mm cylinder. The guns being imported by Nighthawk Custom are set up pretty much how I’d want down to the DLC finish and brass bead sight. Just need a set of stocks to replace the stock Hogues. Even Python guru Grant Cunningham has stated that the Korth is made exceptionally well.
  5. Should have bought a Korth. Only peasants buy plebeian S&W’s with floating firing pins and the Hillary hole. *j/k*
  6. The changing optics in the field crowd amuses me. “What if muh scope fails and I gots to get it off so I can run the irons when the zombies come” ~ Derptard throw lever mount fan. “Why the **** would you put shitty optics on your gun that you can’t trust?” ~ Me
  7. I’m a big fan of my Nightforce Uni-Mount. I find it to be of very high quality machining, very secure, simple, and cost effective. The only flourish that is a bit over the top are the titanium cross bolts/recoil lugs that interface with the upper receiver rail, and the corresponding titanium 1/2” nuts, and titanium wedge clamps that tighten everything down. I’m sure a good grade of steel could have been used for those parts to save money. Then again I like the fact my 30mm mount only weights 5.1 ounces. The Geissele mount is also very nice, as is the Spuhr. Both rely on simple cross bolts, nuts, and wedges to lock down the mount to the upper rail just like the Nightforce. Personally when securing a relatively heavy optic to a rifle or carbine my inclination is to use the most solid mount possible with the strongest mechanical advantage possible. A 1/2” nut on a stout crossbolt, tightening a wedge gives over 1K lbs/sq in of clamping Force when torgued to 65in-lbs, something a QD lever can’t even get close to. You don’t see dudes mounting heavy precision optics to long range bolt action rifles with throw lever mounts, so why would you use one to do the same with a carbine that will see even rougher use?
  8. If you vote Democrat you’re part of the problem.
  9. http://soldiersystems.net/2018/10/01/ussocom-selects-nightforce-for-squad-variable-powered-scopes-first-focal-plane-contract-worth-up-to-21-million/ Nightforce crushing it.
  10. He’s backed out, says he needs to figure out actual market values. Can’t blame him, was hoping for a good deal maybe still possible.
  11. Friend of mine is liquidating most of his gun collection. Mostly old military surplus rifles that were cheap when he bought them so he was really picky, and has nice ones. He has 22 Springfield M1903’s including one original unissued M1903 A4 sniper rifle which he intends to keep. Also keeping his original Sharps, Winchester 1866 Yellowboy musket, 1895 Winchester in .405 WCF (originally owned by General Leonard Wood, a friend of T. Roosevelt) and a few others like his pre a1 Colt 1911. Most of this will be going to an auction house, but I have the option to buy some of it. For example he has two Mauser M66’s that are pristine never fired, one in .30-06 and one in 7mm Remington. Told me $1950 for the pair plus the slings, and one is scoped. Yay or nay on that? Should I buy up 1903A1’s instead?
  12. If that worked then no coyotes would venture into any land in South Dakota. They’re more determined than you think, they just get smarter about it if you give them a chance. Educating them with loud noises and their buddy dying won’t stop them, just makes them more wise to making sure no one is around.
  13. Why? They gonna call the cops? Chowser is the cops.
  14. You tasked with pest control too?
  15. I have friends who shoot coyotes suppressed. They shoot more when pairs come in, no report confuses them and they stand around even after the first coyote goes down for a dirt nap.
  16. Slap an RMR on that bad boy.
  17. Nope I don’t do Facebook. Just goes to show this is an epidemic.
  18. My brief take on this is that you’re either willing to pay for engineering knowledge, skilled assembly and inspection, and product testing or you’re not. You’re either a fully qualified person to do all those things yourself, or more than likely you’re not. The extra intellectual effort, and hands on labor for good assembly and QC costs money. There’s no real magic here, we’re talking about steel, aluminum, and plastics for the most part. For some reason there is a subset of morons in the firearms community who refuse to comprehend that parts are not just parts in every case. These stupid assholes believe that the gun should basically be sold for the cost of raw materials. You’ll find these retards buying cheap parts, assembling AR’s incorrectly, and then spending lots of time trying to figure out why their shit doesn’t work. I have zero patience or use for them, whether I see them online or worse at the range. In fact I wish there was a law prohibiting these mouth breathing inbred fucks from polluting my local range with their constantly malfunctioning ******* carbines/rifles. I don’t want to have to stop what I’m doing while bubba try’s to unfuck his PSA $400 build. Nor do I want to talk to him about it. Nor do I want to justify why I buy complete rifles, that clearly work... which you’d think would be self evident but bubba is typically pretty stupid.
  19. Check out VinWiki. Pretty good stories.
  20. That sucks. What happened? Publisher didn't appreciate truth telling that rankled manufacturer feathers potentially endangering free swag?
  21. The KAC as it is currently configured:
  22. A more direct comparison would be the KAC SR-15 E3 Mod 2 M-Lok 18" Light Precision Rifle, or upper. That uses a Kreiger cut rifled barrel of similar contour to the DD S2W. My guess is that Kreiger barrel (like all Kreiger barrels) is stupid accurate.
  23. It's not a good apples to apples comparison at this point, and probably won't be. I haven't run the same loads through both rifles yet for starters, and the DD has had the benefit of a larger higher magnification scope on it. There is also the issue of barrel contour, and the DD is running an 18" S2W contour, which is DD speak for tapered bull barrel. Below is one of my 18" S2W's this one I pulled off for later use and put the junker barrel back in the upper. This one is a mid length, and is lighter because the taper point to the gas block journal happens sooner than the rifle length gas in my complete DD rifle, saving a few ounces. As you can see the barrel is a heavy bastard, you could legitimately beat someone to death with it. Also neither of my DD's are chrome lined, instead they are salt bath nitrided which may contribute a smidge to accuracy potential. So far the DD has shot tighter groups, but it's running a bull barrel that adds a solid 1 lb to the rifle and all of it out front. I expect it will still shoot tighter groups than the lightweight KAC hammer forged chrome lined barrel, heavier contour barrels are stiffer and the more often than not shoot better groups. The DD was built more as a game gun, or SPR like rifle so it fills a different role than a jack of all trades master of none general purpose lightweight carbine like the KAC. I really can't complain too much so far with how the KAC is shooting given how light it is, and it's a chrome lined barrel. Also in regards to that Colt, that is my M4A1 roll marked SOCOM II with the M4A1 contour barrel and DD RIS II rail from the factory with FSP cut out. That stupid gun is a ******* freak, barrel is just a chrome lined carbine length gas 16" unit but that medium contour instead of govt' contour makes a difference.... gun is a laser beam with loads it likes. Kind of wish it wasn't a limited run, I'd actually shoot it instead of sit on it as a potential investment.
  24. In what specific area do you need a comparison between the two?
