  1. tons of great rust-free body parts here in Georgia. These cars are in decent stock at the junkyards. Granted most of them are wrecked, so some of the body may be crushed but I've seen plenty of great quarter panels, doors, hoods, etc. I have several parts for sale still over on the legacycentral site, including a 97 Outback rear sway bar - someone get this junk because I'm a hoarded and I can't stand to crush it at the metal recycler
  2. So the CVT doesnt have an OEM filter somewhere? Interesting. Sent from my DROID RAZR using Tapatalk 4
  3. Yeah, this is a weird gasket kit to me. It's missing several copper bank bolt washers that you'll need, but you get the aluminum washers/gaskets for the piston pin access plugs (item #1 above, which the FSM says you need to use sealant on also and there are other plugs on the cases which don't have those aluminum washers and you only use sealant). and it's missing all the exhaust gaskets downstream of the motor, so you have to get those separately. but yet it includes a water pump gasket, thermostat seal, water pump dust seal - all of which normally come with a water pump. And if you were re-using a water pump during a motor rebuild, you don't necessarily have to replace the thermostat either, you can remove the pump from the cases without touching the thermo. and as mentioned, missing the two cam bore plug (half-moons, p/n 11051AA070) which it would be foolish not to replace it doing a whole shortblock. There also aren't new o-rings for the cam position sensors, which would be nice. Same for the fuel injectors, each injector has a big one and a smaller one, would be nice to get those too (all 10 of those would cost an extra $4) missing the o-ring for the inside of the oil fill cap, not a big deal but would be nice missing the o-ring for the dipstick itself (at the top), not a big deal but would be nice missing the seal for the center plastic timing cover (one on top, one on bottom), For posterity, item #1 - piston pin access plug washers/gaskets item #2 - rear main seal (duh) item #3 - ???? I forget, but I think these go between the cases item #4 - interestingly enough, this is the #4 piston pin access plug o-ring, for the little cover that goes on the rear end of the drivers side case item #5 - between the cases item #6 - for case bolts item #7 - head gaskets (duh) item #8 - oil dipstick tube where it mounts into the oil pan *item #9 - oil pump o-ring where it mounts to the case item #10 - goes on the oil pan for the main oil drain item #11 - oil drain pug washer item #12 - piston wrist pin circlips item #13 - non-AVCS cam seals item #14 - AVCS cam seals item #15 - timing cover dust seal item #16 - timing cover dust seal item #17 - AVCS cam o-rings for the little covers that cover the cam gear bolt item #18 - valve seals item #19 - valve locks item #20 - valve seals item #21 - valve cover gasket (passenger) item #22 - valve cover gasket (driver) item #23 - valve cover gaskets (spark plugs) item #24 - front crank seal (oil pump) item #25 - little seals for the passenger side of the oil pump, basically dust seals like those for the timing covers *item #26 - oil fill tube item #27 - water pump gasket item #28 - thermostat seal item #29 - dust seal for the side of the water pump item #30 - oil cooler o-ring item #31 - intake manifolds item #32 - "throttle gasket" which means this goes in the TMIC inlet, right where it bolts to the turbo compressor outlet item #33 - TGV/intake to heads item #34 - fuel injectors item #35 - fuel pipe item #36 - turbo oil item #37 - copper washers for oil lines (these are the bigger 12mm ones, need min 4 for just the drivers side head, so this isn't enough) item #38 - copper washers for oil lines (these are the smaller 10mm ones for the turbo side) item #39 - coolant crossover pipe (water pipe on top of the cases, to the upper radiator hose) item #40 - exhaust manifold gaskets (duh)
  4. nice. I Had gotten a 97 Outback rear sway bar w/ both lateral links, for my 93 FWD wagon that didn't have a sway bar at all. The links were too long. I had to get the car done and out, so I never got to weld up brackets to make it work. It's still sitting in my garage, I am a mild pack rat and can't bring myself to scrap it. http://bbs.legacycentral.org/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=49973
  5. Yeah the conversion to 134a is really easy on the 1st Gen Leggies. But, R12 can be colder, however it is more expensive and fewer shops still have it nowadays. Most want $60-80 just to wheel out their R12 rigs and hook it up, let alone the cost of the 'fridge itself. My 93 had IIICE cold AC on all original parts, last summer when I fixed the car up and got it running again. My 94 has ICE cold AC still also, all original. Knocking on wood for both as I type.
  6. anyone around Atlanta have a dark silver, looks like 09 LGT w/ HIDs?? I had one behind me on 75 north last week, I was in my 1st Gen green wagon. We were cruising until the traffic started to jam up, and I dived across a lot of lanes @ Cumberland to escape the suck. I hope by mid-august I will have this silver 06 LGT sedan on the road, breaking in the motor...
  7. I bought one too... Not like I need more things to do on this car with so little time but seems like great insurance for the stock TMIC
  8. Aussies kick azz at lighting up tires. Ref: [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iYeBHtoxs7g]727 Cubic Inches and Australian Tire Smoke! - Roadkill Episode 10 - YouTube[/ame] That 8 second WRX is baddddddd
  9. that is great data koukis14,,,, so 100 deg F at 5,000+ft elevation eh? yeah, that will strain all fluids and fluid systems.
  10. You can find the GMB 160-1120 water pump for about $30 shipped on ebay
  11. You got it right. Just get the cam sprockets lined up right and get the belt on - count your teeth hopefully the new belt has marks for ease (44 teeth to the passenger side cam, 40.5 to the drivers side). I found it 1000x easier to leave the tensioner OUT (I mean the old style single piston one) until you have the belt fully on and lined up properly. Then you can squeeze the tensioner in there and get it bolted up, triple check it all, pry it and bolt it in and then pull the pin on your tensioner. Do you need an idler? I have a bunch sitting around, used but OK. But if the budget allows of course the best thing is all new idlers and a new belt. And water pump if able.
  12. I've been fighting mysterious oil levels, since this is the first time I've used synthetic on the 1st Gen. The motor is rebuilt and has about 700 miles on it now (chassis is at 187K). I changed it a few days ago and trying to get a good reading is just stupid. I never had this problem with conventional oil, that takes into account about 100 oil changes. Low, off the dipstick when cold in the morning, when hot it appears very overfull. Whatever. It purrs like a kitten, except with the A/C on.... it is surging at red lights so I need to look into whichever gadget runs on electrons that is causing a problem. Oh, what did I do with the car today... I took the hurt B25 heads to the machine shop so they can be re-worked. Now time to buy/make a shortblock and source the other bits and pieces, and get this 06 LGT on the road and on the selling block.
  13. This.Post.Has.Serious.Vulcan.Mind.Meld.With.Me I've been saying this for years. Some thoughts way back to the SVX days with the EJ33. My thing is, why not built a BIG ute or a pickup truck? I keep getting stuck having to buy the Big-3 when it comes to trucks. Yeah, the new Tundras are pretty awesome. OK, the 3 American diesels are fun, but all have weaknesses and can break and cost you as much or more to repair than buying a Legacy GT outright... especially if you had it modded to hell and destroy it under warranty, Ford/GM/Dodge tell you to go F yourself. So, Subaru needs to build a light-duty pickup with the STi EJ257 type power with option for 3.6, then a medium duty p/u that has a 3.6L turbo, and for the love of all things considered good in the universe, a big nasty Boxer turbodiesel!!! I will buy one without even seeing it, looking at the interior, etc. Then, there's the sleeper wagon that Subaru needs to build again. Granted, they went a different direction with the 2010+ Legacy/Outback, but why not make a lower wagon that is ready to roll with the rest of the fast crowd? The 3.6 is nice and smooth, but maybe I just don't know enough about the long-term results so far with the 2010+ with the turbo relocated to the front/lower instead of being in the hot-cave behind the #3 cylinder. So, FTW... Subaru 1000 pickup with 2.5 STi guts with front/lower turbo position, big FMIC and big ram air intake stock, RWD option selectable. Choose beefy 5EAT or 6MT. Option engine is the 3.6 beefed up for some more power due to intake/exhaust. Subaru 2000 pickup with 3.6 turbo motor, and I mean a big VGT turbo or something that will provide the grunt early but sing up top. Get with the big boys who are making 6, 7 and 8 speed ATs nowadays (umm, the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee with the ecodiesel or whatever they're calling it?). Honestly this truck could probably be the size of a regular Chevy 1500 or F-150. But don't leave out a built 6MT as an option, maybe with a granny low gear too and/or ridiculous OD top cog. Optional engine would be an H6 turbodiesel????? Subaru Outback GT wagon, call it spec.C orjust make it an STi that is big enough to actually take camping/vacation please? This is why the 5-door WRX/STI is not in my garage already, and could never be based on dogs and family size. While I'm at it? Bring back a mid-size of GT Touring coupe. I still think the 2.5RS body was the best rally-inspired-looking car they ever brought to the USA. Just my favorite Subaru based on looks alone. But that's just me. Make it an STi coupe version instead? Or just contract with Holden for the body and put a Subaru driveline config in the Commodore/GTO or whatever hahaha Oh, if I had the time to build a fabbed car like this. Sorry to get OT on the Buick... while I've seen the old 241's in Jeeps all over the place, the 3.8 Turbo in various configs is a great motor and I wish I would've seen this post about 3 years ago!
  14. I'm about to put a new short block into an 06 LGT, this is great info... I'll probably be ordering this kit soon, and let everyone know if I find anything different/weird.
