  1. Finding a shop that's not going to muck up the job can be difficult. Realize any shop, even dealers, the least experienced ppl are working on your car. They are doing an inspection for more possible work in the 15 minutes they spend on the whole job.

Dealer hourly rate is about $200/hr, so labor and materials is about right.

If you don't have time to login here, looking for and dealing with changing to a new shop isn't high on your list of things to do either? Unless you spend playtime with your kids changing the oil?

I have a shop that I go to that charges $43. There was a recall on the legacy so I figured I'd get the oil change. Last time I paid was around 70 last year. And I like to support the dealership (I've had 9 subarus, 3 today) But $90 bucks? That's a rip off.

  2. Change your own oil where possible!

My local dealership charged $79. I live in an HOA where I'm not "allowed" change my vehicle's oil. So I close my garage and do it where I can't be seen. Even with the hassle, saving $40 is worth it.

$24 for the oil, $5 for a filter. Just remember to buy a decent catch pan.

Even when I bring the vehicle in for maintenance I tell them "No oil change. No tire rotation". Both of these things are far too easy to do on your own.

I also recommend looking into and investing in a Fumoto drain valve. Makes oil changes easier and cleaner.

I've changed my oil since I was 16yrs old. I don't have time to do oil changes with my hectic schedule. I've logged on legacygt.com today. Last time I was on, I posted this thread.

  3. With that assumption have you read all the posts that very few have had to replaced their windshield. Here is one using your logic ...... I went outside and it rained so I should never go outside because I will always get wet.[emoji6]

Laughing at oneself and with others is good for the Soul![emoji2]

Here's a logic, the Subaru Cracked Windshield Lawsuit Grows To 2.5 Million U.S. Vehicles including the 2017-2020 legacy and outbacks.

My bad. It's just me then. Sorry for the illogical post.

  5. I sympathize with your disappointment that your windshield cracked ... but if you have objective data to support your assertion, let's see it! Otherwise, your anecdote is no more valid than anyone else's.

Same route to work for the past 10yrs. Driven my wrx, tribeca, impreza (traded in for. Legacy), and now legacy 3.6. First time any of my cars had replacements. Do the research, there's threads everywhere about legacy and outback windshield replacements.

  6. My wife has a Legacy. I have a Fusion Sport. All wheel drive, 325hp, 380lb-ft torque. C&D timed it at 5.1 0-60. Can be had for high 30k's. It's a nice car. No problems in two years. Skip that SHO.

One of the problems my uncle has with the fusion sport is the terrible gas mileage around town. We were talking about how he was getting 16mpg. My WRX gets much better than that.

  7. Lol. Are you serious? There are probably a 100 factors which could effect the drag strip performance of the same car on different days to the tune of a few tenths, much less two different cars 3 years apart.

I will tell you this, if 0-60 and 1/4 mike are priorities for you, you are barking up the wrong tree with the Legacy. The 365 hp Taurus SHO will lay waste to a legacy and doesn’t cost all that much more.

Maybe you should read my post carefully again? I didn't buy the legacy for speed. I already have tuned wrx that would destroy a Taurus. I was just curious if the cvt changes that subaru worked on improved some performance. Lol Just fun conversation. No need to get worked up.

  8. It's all magazine comparisons and I'm aware there are many variables when measuring how fast a car can run. But did anyone catch the 2018 outback 3.6r doing 0-60 in 6.9 seconds in 15.2 @ 95.9, about a half second than the 2015 test which was 0-60 in 7.4 in 15.7 @ 91.2.

I'm assuming the legacy might be a fraction faster too. But that trap speed and 0-60 breaking into late 6's makes me think that the 2018 model adjustments/tune subaru did to make the cvt more smooth on the 2018 models may have had an impact on performance. Just some fun #'s comparison. Tried looking up times on a 2018 legacy 3.6 but didn't find anything.

    Thoughts?

  9. I also had a Brilliant Silver '05 LGT before buying my Ice Silver '17 but I wish it was still parked in my driveway.

I'm liking the '17 a lot but it's a totally different car than the LGT. The '05 was more of a performance car, a bit of a Q-ship, and an enthusiast's favourite. The '17 is smoother, quieter, and of course it has so much tech in it that wasn't even available in 2005.

I test drove the 3.6R before buying my 2.5, hoping it would be a little like the LGT but I was quite disappointed. Even if it has about the same power as the '05 LGT, it doesn't have the kick-in-the-pants response of the LGT's turbo when the power came on. And I found it felt front heavy. At the same time, I found the 2.5 nowhere near as underpowered as a lot of people on this forum make it out to be.

So yes, I like the '17 but I've accepted that I will probably never again have the "STi for adults" feel I had with the LGT.

I loved the GT. Was one of the first owners in 05 in my city. What was cool about the GT was it competed with the entry luxury market like the bmw 325, audi a4, and Acura TL.

I ended up trading the GT for a 11 WRX ltd. And I really like my wrx but it's a bit more "rough" and the wife gets annoyed with the drone. I have the wrx in my garage in pristine condition and comes out on weekends.

I actually have a 16 impreza that really nice. Great on gas, it's really stable on highway speeds, and a solid vehicle. Sometimes its slow though. I was looking at something more luxury and bigger like the legacy. But I'm considering the Forester XT.

If the GT came out today, even without all the bells and whistles, I'd buy it again.

  10. I am no where as comfortable taking those turns in the GT as I was in the VR6. The VW is not in the same league as the LGT, that's why I bought the Subie...to trade up!

I had better potenzas on the VW". I'm thinking this had a lot to do with it.

I also noticed something else that I am having trouble with - When I take that corner in the LGT and let off the gas, the back end kicks out. Maybe I should keep my foot on the pedal and just back off a bit...not sure,

I have no idea what you are talking about regarding the electrical issues. I had none and owned the car for 3 years. I also can't believe that a stock Cobalt would better the time of the VW.

It's possible that I don't have the cornering "down" yet in the LGT. If anyone has any thoughts, I would like to hear them.

new tires make the legacy a new car in the handling dept. just ask any person here that has done it. it also helps control tail kick out but that's also a tuning of the tire in regards to tire pressure.

electrical issues? vw is known for all kinds of problems and that is one of the biggest complaints (http://www.usatoday.com/money/autos/2004-05-11-vw_x.htm) my friend had taken his car to the dealership 6 times in the past 5 months for all sorts of electrical problems.

sorry to clarify, it was the cobalt SS.

even on stock tires, when the cars rear starts to slide, you need to give it some gas. check your tires pressure too...

  11. Great post...I think number one, I need tires because my VW GTI VR6 would smoke my LGT on any corner because I had better Potenza's on it.

BS. My friends VW GTI VR6 hatch while small and handles adequate is slow compared to the legacy. we've even taken our cars to the local autocross for fun and his car is no where near the LGT Ltd. On a roll, from the dig, offroad and it's bye bye for the lower leagued VW. Now he has to sell his car because of some reoccuring electrical problems (surprise surprise?).

Changing the legacy tires (i've got the BF goodrich g-force tires) makes all the difference in the world but I still had better lap times even on the stock 92's than he when we went to our local track up here in north houston.

The spec b leggacy shows the potential with its lap and handling times with a better tuned legacy and it beat the latest A4 and a gti doesn't come anywhere near an A4. I personally think the stock tires aren't as bad as people make it out to be. THey're really not great but still can do an OK job.

No way would a GTI "smoke" the legacy even with stock tires on an autocross because I actually tried it. And for the gas record too, my friend uses premium and was getting only 19-24 MPG very close to my legacy at 21-25MPG. My other friend that owns a chevy cobalt actually beat the GTI on the autocross too. Not to mention his chevy has no problems and the GTI is just a nightmare...

a lot of the whole handling issue witht the legacy has a lot to do with the shifting and driving.
