  1. what about building in it a programmable shift light functionality where the curved LED bar would be rpm and the next gear up/down would be displayed based on a programmable input?

    (example)

I if I am in 4th gear and I am revving less than 2000 rpm; indicator would be GEAR DOWN...but if I am in 4th and revving 3000 rpm it would display GEAR UP ?

  2. EHNILS, this is not worthy of a sticky and it is unlikely to be the center differential in his case. I appreciate your eagerness to help though but your Euro knowledge is superseeded by that of actual GT owners who repaired their transmissions. And if you pass a fine comb thru his statement, no mom's wagon needs an STi tranny unless it is (1) modified; (2) driven aggressively; (3) not driven by the mother

By the way, I just got my car back on the 16th of December after a complete transmission overhaul.

  3. Roldan bro, you've gotta come clean about it....you are driving you mom's car, launching it and generally driving like you stole it. And the car is tuned. You know what gave it away ? Your knowledge of the gearing ratios and the desire to put an STI tranny into it. If it was your mom's (and moms are unlikely to buy a manual car, regardless of how Euro born and raised they are), you'd be very happy to repair the OEM one because it is her car and you would not care for a better one.

    _____

I know people with approximately double the factory power still on the OEM spec gearbox...They are very reliable to about 300 whp (the general wisdom here on the site). You should look into your clutch|TOB options before you split the tranny and do your 2nd, 3rd and 4th synchros. And as far as the tranny swap threads...they are everywhere; there's even one or two stickies and/or Master Threads. And yeah...go elsewhere...$2500 is too expensive.

  4. This is neat ! I don't actually need one for AFR or boost due to my CarPC but I fully concur with it being fabulously awesome idea. I think (though I did not investigate if this is the case) the display should be made to fit either the center or the left side vents depending on where the customer wants it.

I would buy one if this could be made into a shift light; with 2 selectable stages; and a light-up comparable to F1 cars. For instance: a ramp-up to 2500 rpm for normal driving and another one to 7000 rpm.

  5. im sure that this question has been address already but im kind of a newb when it comes to this. I have a laptop that i wouldnt mind taking apart to use as a car pc. i obviously would have to purchase a screen for the car but what else would i need to buy to make this happen?

If you read the first 5 pages or so, you will stumble across my solution. I am running it off a laptop that is NOT taken apart. You will need to buy a power source (DC-to-DC); a screen; the relevant wiring; and hack the laptop to allow for an external momentary switch (most of us solder wires to the points where the laptop's momentary switch is connected). Useless to say that demands finesse and it is the second hardest thing about running it off a laptop.

  6. Actually I have my fog lights adjusted "upwards" and even with my HIDs (55 Watt, 4200 K - which are the whitest) I can tell the fog lights. It gives me more peripheral vision and project maybe about 5-7 meters in front of the car. It is not just a subtle difference. I have the non-HID Narva 55 watt (H3 I believe) bulbs.
  7. I put a piggyback on the cigarette lighter fuse slot.

Yep. Actually no. Piggybacked (i just soldered more wires) the front console cig plug for radar and the middle console one for juice for the the cooling fan. Ran a wire from battery to the back of the car where I have my Carnetix PSU and that is for all CARPC electronics.

  8. Sticky.

I have a question which I was going to ask in the other thread dedicated to front LSDs (read UNABOMBER's post this morning).

Answer this please: what does a front LSD do for you ?

I know you have one in your LGT.

Approach this question from the (aggressive) daily driving angle not from the competition use/rally cross/autocross.

I have some conceived ideas such as induced understeer; more front grip; being able to hit gas at or even before the apex and the torque just pulling you thru the corner etc. I may be right on some counts and wrong on most. I wanna hear it from someone who has the part.

I am interested in things like

    - are you stressing your transmission more ?

    - are you under-steering more ?

    - are your front tires wearing out faster ?

    - are you cornering/steering better ?

    - is your car more stable on slippery surfaces (ice/snow/wet roads)

    - are you less likely to spin on slippery surfaces (ice/snow/wet roads)

    - do you feel "torque steer" when you launch the car ?

As Rob said, for most of us is a waste of money. But I am contemplating one; I am not alone in this as I know at least one other Chicago guy thinking of one - and i wanna safeguard my time and money by asking. And of course that is the angle from which I am interested. Some folks want to know how their times will drop at the drag strip or for auto cross use. Please provide insight into that as well. I think you recently won your first AX event.

    Thanks.

I am sure WhiteTiger will get to it and edit the first post but this is

the other main thread on Front LSDs in a Legacy GT

So I just picked up one of these....Subaru Front LSD

  9. *sigh*

at one point or antoher we're all asses on the forums.

some of us more than others. (I'm actually talking about myself here.:p)

This is not the Politics Forum so here I actually agree with you.

  10. 1) You are an ass.

    2) I run dual monitors with one desktop at home. Since most CarPC's use desktop or laptop components, why is it so ZOMG UNTHINKABLE to run two monitors in the car?

I guess anyone running dual monitors at home or work is stupid... and a gangster thug.

    3) My logic for having two screens is that I want Nav on top. Permanently. The bottom would be for all other A/V integration. I don't care if you think it's dumb, it's what I want and is why I asked.

    Thanks.

Post reported just as you did on mine. I did make fun; not call you names.

  11. Then do not use the RomRaider gauges.

For large text and video and graphics, composite is fine ?

Then you wanna try this - cause according to you - you only use it for gauges.

Unfortunately this is not a mouse controller. It's a 3d modeling controller for use inside engineering apps. Something like this that worked like a mouse would be pretty ideal if you couldn't get a touch screen.

You can customize the axis on which it works.

And you can try the laptop version for size.

  13. I already output to composite with my internal video card. That isn't vga quality and it doesn't allow for touchscreen control.

As I said you will need an external input device like a mouse of sorts. What is the resolution of the factory nav ? Probably poor but if it is "good" then you need a different graphics card. Did you compare your laptop's output to a regular TV to your OEM navi screen ?

  14.

hey guys.. cool idea for those of us w/o shitty si-drive..

get an si-drive console in your interior color, and the si drive control module.. and rig it up like an "eraser head" mouse from a laptop.

    now that would be cool.

    Nope. One of these.
