  1. It's still snowing out here so you'll have to wait another day for those pics. Sorry guys but I'm too lazy to take pictures in the snow.
  2. I'll take them tomorrow. It's snowing now and I don't want to leave my house. Promise for tomorrow though.
  3. Remove it, Separate the entire unit again, clean the lenses. Reassemble using extra Sealant. I use latex stuff and it works great. You shouldn't have any water build up in the headlight.
  4. Light is not thrown anywhere above the cutoff. Cutoff is crisp with blue tinge. If light does get thrown below the cutoff then my experiment worked! haha. I'll snap some pics tonight hopefully if I'm not too lazy showing how they look against a wall and let you guys be the judge. If you're gonna try my method then the proper template isn't perfectly square for the two sides of the lens holder. It's more like this ..____ /_____\ The bottom of the projector holder will take a more square piece that will just slide right in without even making the notches. So the only notches go for the sides. Then you bend the ends to slide it into place and it will expand from the diameter of the lens holder to the diameter of the projector bowl if you put it with the longer side closer to the bowl. If that makes sense haha.
  5. So I took my headlights apart yet again! haha. I actually made a nice little setup too. What I did was cut the LGT shield so that the hole opening is now the entire width of the projector. I also trimmed the top piece so that the low end cutoff is now closer to the projector. This eliminated the 2 round circles that hit the street and turns it into a more of a spread. The next thing I did was to enclose the projector. I noticed that there was a real good amount of light escaping between the projector and the lens. Here is how I did this and I apologize for not taking pictures but it was frustrating to have to "redo" the entire thing again, although this time around I am perfectly satisfied. What I did was take my RX330 lens holder and cut notches into it. There are the three mounting points and if you cut a vertical slit on each of the sides of these mounting points you make a perfect area in which to insert a "shroud" To make these covers I took some construction paper and made myself a template. I then bought a piece of aluminum from Home depot and cut them the same as the templates. You can now bend the metal and make it fit. This in turn closes the projector and allows light to all be focused at the lens. Honestly too guys this works. I noticed that my projectors are now working better than I could have imagined. It's pretty much like using the AFS projector in that no light escapes besides out of the lens. I will take some pics of the cutoff/road output to show you guys what I mean. This took me all new years break though becuase I decided to really take my time and do it right as I was getting sick of taking apart headlights. Again sorry for not taking pics of an enclosed Non-AFS setup but if you can kind of follow how I did it I would suggest doing the same to yours because it is definitely worth it.
  6. Can I ask how to tell if the spacing is correct? I did the washer mod to get a sharper cutoff and I am gonna retake these apart on Thursday/Friday to turn my LGT shield into a custom round shield for a better cutoff across the width of the projector. I think that I can make the Stock LGT shield work really well if I just towards the bottom and round the cutoff off. What do you think? Something like this http://s59.photobucket.com/albums/g297/jvxdriver/folder_04/IMG_6661.jpg but using the stock LGT shield and cutting the lower half to bend outwards towards the lens. I think this will work.
  7. Just a suggestion to anyone that chooses to open their headlights. Please make sure to remove all old silicone sealant when you're doing it and replacing it with a ton of new sealant. Last night I had to take both headlights apart cause of water and I did this in the freezing cold and snow here in Chicago. On a positive note it gave me a chance to play more with the cutoff and I switched my setup to use the RX330 lensholder. I like it better and the cutoff is a bit more sharp.
  8. I checked though and the holes do line up for the RX330 shield. But like Mini said it has to be trimmed. I think the RX shield is weak though and prefer either the LGT shield or even a custom one.
  9. Ok so I did my retro that took all day yesterday and now I'm just getting around to doing my little writeup. First of all I love the setup. I have RX330 Projectors Clear Lenses Legacy Shields Phillips 85122 with Denso Slim Ballasts Ok so the following are some pics of my setup and I'll explain them now. 1) This is all the equipment that was necessary to do the job. http://www.legacygt.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=61249&stc=1&d=1229398246 2) As you can see I had to do some cutting of the projector bracket because the bowl is just too darn big. Don't know if this is the same in the '05-'07 Legacys as well. Cutting was done with a dremel. You can also see a screw coming through. You'll see what that's for in the next pic. http://www.legacygt.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=61250&stc=1&d=1229398246 3) This is where I got creative. I had to think of a way to mount the ballasts so I went to home depot and picked up a couple light switch plates. Dremeled them to size and mounted them on. You can see the screws protruding downward. I put some JB quick weld on the undersides to hold them in so they are pretty much "welded" bolts and you can turn the nut easily and not worry about it rotating. http://www.legacygt.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=61251&stc=1&d=1229398246 4) This is just another shot of the plate that I fabbed up for the job. http://www.legacygt.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=61252&stc=1&d=1229398339 5) Here is a shot of the ballast mounted and tightened onto the screws. The blue stuff is lock-tite to make sure those suckers don't go anywhere. http://www.legacygt.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=61253&stc=1&d=1229398339 6) You can see here the final product. Notice how I changed up the wiring from the ballast to the power and also the ballast to the bulb. The wires for the bulb now run through the grommet and the power to the ballast is external and wrapped up nicely. I think this looks as stock as you can get. http://www.legacygt.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=61254&stc=1&d=1229398339 7) Just another picture showing the wiring and finished product of the housing. http://www.legacygt.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=61255&stc=1&d=1229398412 8) This picture really doesn't do it justice. Also I haven't aimed the headlights yet cause it is currently 10 degrees here in Chicago and I am not gonna sit out there and do it right now. http://www.legacygt.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=61256&stc=1&d=1229398412 9) A closeup of the cutoff. Don't think the lights are tilted, the reason for the raising from the left to right is the car isn't facing directly straight at the garage, it's on an angle. When adjusting the headlights I can see why it's imparative to make sure the car is square to the wall. http://www.legacygt.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=61257&stc=1&d=1229398412 All in all this was a simple project with minor fabbing needed. Once my headlights are aimed they will be perfect and keep that nice stock look I wanted. Another note is check the bulbs before you put them in. One of my bulbs had the return wire bent and it screwed up the entire light output of the drivers side projector. Not checking it I had to remove the bumper again and the light housing only to just take the bulb out before baking the light again and seeing it was screwed up. That wasn't a fun project after a monday at work haha. If there's any other questions feel free to ask me.
  10. Tomorrow is the big day for my retro! I'll snap lots of pics and let you guys know how it goes. I'll also try and get some photos of the end results.
  11. Agreed but the light output of stock projectors is terrible. Even with an HID kit.
  12. Ebay my friend. I acquired all the parts for less than $300. Would have been less than $250 if it weren't for one of the bulbs I bought with the Ballasts wouldn't have been cracked.
  13. Bored at work so I thought I would post. I have all my parts ready for my retro!. I had to order new bulbs though cause my ballast/bulb combo came with 1 cracked bulb. It's ok though cause I wanted the 85122's and not the 85122+'s. I was just going with what was available at the time. Thinking about tackling the retro next weekend. I really want to buy new headlight assemblies but that will wait until next summer and I'll transfer my retro over to that as well as some LED DRL's that I'm gonna fab up. Any opinions or other tips for the retro next week? I have read this thread like twice now to make sure not to miss a thing.
  14. Yea they looked just like the RX330's. I can't wait to do my retro. What do you guys think of these lenses? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/_Car-Truck-Parts-Accessories__2-5-CLEAR-PROJECTOR-LENS-E30-S2000-FX-D2S-ZKW-RX-TSX_W0QQitemZ230307576431QQadiZ2865QQadnZCarQ20Q26Q20TruckQ20PartsQ20Q26Q20AccessoriesQQcmdZViewItemQQptZMotors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories?hash=item230307576431&_trksid=p4506.c0.m245&_trkparms=72%3A543|65%3A12|39%3A1|240%3A1318 I have to replace the lenses on these ones cuase I'm sure theyll be scratched. I also want to get a clear lens. Are these a ripoff and should I keep searching or should I scoop a couple up?
  15. It is. I PM'd the guy selling to make sure it was. Also the pictures show it to be the non-afs.
  16. So I just put together all the parts for my retro besides the clear lenses. I saw a set on Ebay but will wait till after the Christmas season as the retro won't happen till I purchase some new lamp houses as well. Here's what I ordered. What do you guys think? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250335213449 http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&item=380083204864 http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&item=200282092365 I would say 250.00 for the complete retro won't be too bad. The lenses I saw were another 20 bucks a piece. The problem is new houses are 230 a piece so that will kill me but I don't want to crack my originals open again and want to save them for when I want to trade the car in eventually.
  17. I am definitely going to use the phillips d2s bulbs. I just don't know what I need from there.
  18. So if I get the Phillips bulbs an the D2s Adapters what Ballasts do I get? Do I get H7 Ballasts? Also do I need the wiring harness like with my current DDM kit? or will the quality of these bulbs not lead to failure at start like my current setup.
  19. Ok so I just want to ask if the projector bowls are universal? I am asking because I can purchase 2 of the same side light for pretty cheap and since I am using the original legacy shield still I am hoping the bowl itself from the RX330 is a universal bowl and can be used interchangeably with side. Thanks for the help.
  20. Any info on where to pickup the parts for it? I have been searching ebay with no results. There's one projector up there but no mate for it.
  21. How would this MDX setup work? it states it's comparable to the RX330. I am looking at doing a retro but don't know where to get parts to be honest. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Parts-Accessories_Car-Truck-Parts-Accessories__Acura-MDX-Projectors-Xenon-HID-D2S-Rare-S2K-TSX-RX330_W0QQitemZ270307042708QQddnZPartsQ20Q26Q20AccessoriesQQadiZ2865QQddiZ2811QQadnZCarQ20Q26Q20TruckQ20PartsQ20Q26Q20AccessoriesQQcmdZViewItemQQptZMotors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories?hash=item270307042708&_trksid=p4506.c0.m245&_trkparms=72%3A543|65%3A12|39%3A1|240%3A1318
