  1. I used Oracal 631. Its ridiculously cheap, just google it
  2. haha yeah I've read that, the next 20 pages are kind of interesting in everyone arguing which vinyls to use.. you can't listen to everything people say because there is a lot of crap in there and some people don't know what they're talking about. I'm pretty sure he used Oracal vinyl, kinda like the stuff I used on that steering wheel. I would never use that on a car, it was made for wall coverings and wall signage. Its more difficult than needed, it also shows scratches and defects much more, and most of all, I'm not sure of the effects long term on the paint, as its not made to be used on cars. I'm getting 3m 180c vinyl just about as cheap as anyone can, and its still about $300 for 48" x 30 yards, I don't want to think of the crap he used on his poor bmw.. I'm also going to try to take off more body panels..as much as possible: aka front and rear bumpers, side rocker panels, etc. I've just about taken apart all of my car before so doing so for this project won't be hard at all, and will make things much easier, as wall as allowing for neater edges.
  3. before:http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc4/hs109.snc4/35834_1337322636669_1339200078_30806465_7085172_n.jpg shitty BMWs... After, matte black vinyl: http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash2/hs049.ash2/35834_1337322756672_1339200078_30806467_5545017_n.jpg
  4. Yeah, I know, I'm pooped. I vinyl wrapped my brother's steering wheel in his BMW because the paint was chipping off. Matte black, but a different type.. I'll post pics of that for the meantime :-p
  5. Installation would be at least $1K. Not to mention how this vinyl from most places would be a few hundred more expensive too I believe..
  6. so... the vinyl came in wrong.... and getting the right stuff is going to take 3 weeks because its backordered... sigh =[ fail. Talk to ya in 3 weeks...
  7. has anyone on here done a full wrap on their LGT? I had searched but didn't find anything
  8. Matte is much different from a regular vinyl. Luckily I started with vinyl on really hard stuff so I'm used to it. One of the issues with matte vinyl is that if you stretch it even the smallest amount it starts to look glossy. I'm only looking to get 2 years out of this, and am not going to laminate it. Picking up the rest of the vinyl tomorrow..woo
  9. Wow thanks for a overwhelmingly positive support..was not expecting as much compared to "wow you're stupid" Durability: This is a 7 year vinyl. from what I've heard vinyls, especially under crappy conditions and sun as well won't last that long, but I truthfully only think I'm going to have my LGT for 2 years before I sell it, so it will have no problem lasting. If people are buying vinyl, ESPECIALLY here on the forums, make sure the vinyl is cast, not calendered. Calendered vinyl will shrink and always want to go back to its original "flat" form. I also went with this more expensive vinyl over some of the cheaper Avery alternatives because I know that it will preserve the paint and not harm it when I want to take it off in two years. Seams and door jams, etc: the rolls are 48 inches wide, so seaming will be minimal. The only place I'll need seams are on the roof panel/ because it extends to the rear 3/4 panel. I'm not sure where I'll put a seam, one on either side. I'm thinking about doing it on the top of the roof where there is a small "ridge" a few inches above the windows. Other than that, I am going to take off each body panel to do the best wrap I can, and so seams won't be visible. I'm not completely sure If I will do all of the door jams with the inner frame... that will be one of the last things I look into. Hopefully I'll start this weekend, and it will be with the trunk and hood first
  10. I bought 2 rolls, each 48 inches x 15 yds, about $270 for both I was about to go with Avery A9 EZ vinyl, still cast vinyl, not quite as easy to work with, cheaper as well, but I got such a good deal on the 3m stuff I couldn't pass it up
  11. thanks =] a matte black car just for reference: http://image.popularhotrodding.com/f/magazine-stuff/satin-black/17059075/satin-black-vinyl-car.jpg
  12. Hey all, So..for my next project, I'm turning my Atlantic Blue Pearl LGT sedan black. I've gotten pretty good at using vinyl for other projects, and I usually do some type of big project to keep myself busy over the summer when I'm not at college. Somehow.. I'll manage to do this and my job.. anyway! I'm using 3m 180c vinyl in matte black. Its easy to use and some of the best stuff. If anyone wants any advice on any vinyl related tasks feel free to ask. I like doing things myself..it keeps me doing something and I like the result! I kinda also wanted a black car.. anyway. Here is a thread detailing my LED tail lights that I built last summer: http://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php/led-tail-lights-work-progress-107622p12.html I also have a thread about my exhaust which I made..search for it! my blue car: http://berzindesign.com/LGT/3s.jpg http://berzindesign.com/Thirdbrake/1DSC_0062.jpg http://berzindesign.com/LGT/DSC_0031a.jpg I'll update as I progress...which should be soon. Yeah I know there are going to be haters. If you are really that against what I'm doing than don't bother flaming me!
  13. yeah, hopefully they'll replace them for you! I've had mine in for 2 years now and they're all great still!
  14. saw a spec B with aftermarket exhaust turning on to 202 in raritan around dinner time yesterday
  15. i spotted a modded silver LGT, had HIDs and aftermarket rims.. didn't get a good enough look tell anything else on 287 in NJ at about 1:00 yesterday
  16. I never spot anyone out here in PA.. its kinda depressing. A lot of ricey 2.5i legacys tho with really odd looking rims and "mirror" tints.. haha
  17. they just pop off, theres a little slot where you can put a flat head screwdriver, and gently pry. nothin to break!
