  1. Got a 2008 outback with a leaky front exhaust pipe and I'm looking to replace it with one that doesn't leak, preferably cheaper than an aftermarket, but I get the cat in the pipe may make that tricky these days.

I believe one will work from:

    2006-2010 Forester

    2006-2011 Impreza

    2006-2012 Legacy

    2006-2012 Outback

NON-Turbo, and NOT NY/CALI CARB compliant.

    Thank you!

  2. Trying something a little different this time.

Everything is out of a 2005 LGT with Tan interior. Pieces are in decent shape for their age, a little cleaning will go a long way. Unless otherwise noted, the brackets and clips are in good shape.

    What's included:

    Front door sill trim R&L

    Rear door sill trim R&L

    Instrument Panel Lower cover

    Instrument Panel side covers R&L

    Foot well trim pieces R&L

    Console Side trim pieces R&L

    Shifter surround with chrome

    Cubby with clock electronics (working).

Center console garnish trim, wood grain R&L

    Rear seat slide covers

The whole thing, in a single box, shipped anywhere in the lower 48, for $225 (or make me an offer). If you're local, and want to pick it up I can knock off a chunk. If you're interested in only specific parts, PM me.. I might have duplicates.

    Thanks!

  3. So Max one thing I noticed with my Motive power bleeder is the cap that you put on the fluid res, is SO tight that when I’m done, I have to wrestle with the thing so much I feel like I’m gonna snap the reservoir right off the master cylinder. I did opt for the nicer metal cap instead of the plastic option from Motive. Which cap did you buy and do you have this issue at all?

Obviously not Max, but you aren't kidding. I found that a good size pipe wrench worked wonders - didn't feel like I was torquing the master cylinder at all and twisted it right off. Felt like overkill, but it worked.

  4. Got the downpipe reconnected, everything wrapped up. Had to jerry-rig the bolts connecting the downpipe to the exhaust, but no bug surprise there.

Figured I'd drive into work this morning, heat everything up and re-torque tonight/tomorrow, but about a mile away from the house, massive exhaust leak. Got it back to the garage, and it looks like it's leaking somewhere in the cross pipe/passenger manifold/up-pipe - it's easy to find when smoke is billowing out. Kind of wondering if I just missed tightening something.

I'll tear it apart again, see what's wrong... with luck, just re-tighten everything. Just glad I didn't get too far away from home.

  5. Good thought. Could check by blowing into either end of it. No clue why someone would put one on the BPV reference line though

I thought of this too, and it passes air in both directions - and agreed, why there?

I’m thinking “hose too short, slap on a connector” makes the most sense, the engine is otherwise stock.

  6. Car: 07 LGT 5MT

Found this plastic disk in-line on the BOV, in the bypass line. It almost looks like a restrictor of some sort? When I first got the car, the tubing was relatively loose, so I zip-tied the ends, but didn't notice that it was different.

The same line from my 05 doesn't have it, and I can't seem to find any pictures or info about it here or online - haven't seen it on any other car.

I have the lines (and the BOV) from the 05, so if I don't find anything about it, I'll just remove it and replace the line if necessary, but I'm curious if it has a purpose.

  7. If the goal is aftermarket speakers/subs/system, you can look at a signal processor. I had a Rockford Fosgate 360 for a while in my 05 LGT. Wasn't bad.. had some quirks, but allowed me to do what I wanted to.

Otherwise, yeah.. "expensive and annoying" pretty much nails it.

  8. Finally got around to pulling the engine from the 2005 that's been sitting for a couple years - lost a timing pulley and been waiting to rebuild. Technically did that last weekend, but pulled the second head off yesterday and getting them cleaned up.

Going to take it into a local Subaru shop and get it analyzed, but it's looking better than I expected honestly.

The car lost a turbo around 100K then this happened after another 15k, I'll be really happy if it's salvageable.

What do you guys think? It's not great, but I don't see any obvious signs of destruction.

  10. Sounds like you all have this figured out, but I wanted to throw an alternative cause out there, in case it helps. Had the same problem with the airbag lights, but my issue turned out to be a loose connection in the plug to the airbag lights under the cubby (if you have NAV, this isn't your problem).

At some point when working on the stereo/hvac, I removed the cubby and the connector didn't re-connect fully. About 2 weeks of on/off wierdness and I finally got mad and smacked the cubby... lights went off. So I hit it again, they came back on. Pulled the cubby, made sure everything was connected and I've never had it happen again.
