  1. I should have taken pictures when I fixed mine. Rear driver side door. Once I got the child lock undone with a flexible piece of plastic sheet, I found that the exterior latch had a lever broken off. It was easy to see where it was broken. After drilling and pinning the broken lever for mechanical support, I used some Quickseal Metal Reppair epoxy to form the lever back to the broken area. The shape is the duplicated on opposite end of the handle, so you know what it is supposed to look like. I did all that 'cause I'm cheap, had the time, and the stuff on hand. Of course it would have been easier to install a new handle. $40 on ebay. Works great now, and I dare say that with the pinned reinforcement, stronger than new.
  2. For the last 9 months I have been maintaining my '09 Legacy SE EJ253 2.5i naturally aspirated sedan. I bought it with 137K miles, 156K now. (19K mostly freeway miles). DTC codes: 0013, 0420, 0138, (As of today, there are finally no pending or permanent codes) We will see how long that lasts! Replaced: O2/air-fuel/PCV sensors, brakes/rotors, air filter, spark plugs, cat., wipers, driver door switch, hood stay grommet, battery hold-down, ATF (x2), several oil & filter changes. Yet to replace: Rocker/Valve cover gaskets and spark tube seals. (There is oil getting into the spark plug tubes. I suspect it is affecting the spark). Passenger window regulator. Timing belt, Suspension components. Body work: Front bumper cover, hood, head light set, Cleaned: MAF, EGR, throttle body, cabin air-filter. Additives: Techron x3, Blue Devil power steering stop leak, Blue Devil engine oil stop leak, Cataclean. Repaired: Trunk light, center console lid, LR door latch, Added: roof racks, 12v power plug in console for BT connectivity. Dash cover (missed the sticky dash recall!) Love the way it looks and drives. Fun to work on. Sometimes frustrating to figure out problems
  3. I had a P0031 code and replaced the upstream O2 sensor with OEM Denso part. P0031 eliminated. Prior to that I had replaced the downstream O2 sensor and the catalytic converter. The catalytic converter code P0420 returned. I replaced spark plugs, PCV valve, used fuel system cleaner several times (in hopes that would clean fuel injectors), cleaned the MAF sensor, cleaned EGR valve, still unable to get rid of P0420 code. Cleaned the throttle body and idle re-learn, runs and idles better. DTC P0420 persists.
  4. I have the same code on my '09. I already replaced the downstream sensor about seven months ago. I'm going to replace the upstream (Denso $109 Rockauto.com) when I get back home from current business travel. Just curious, how did your replacement go? Did that clear your codes?
  5. 3 days ago I cleaned the throttle body and what a difference! Hesitation and stumbling as if it were going to stall at stops all went away. When I bought the car last july with 130k miles I had to replace the O2 (after cat.) sensor and the catalytic converter. It passed smog, but shortly thereafter P0420 code came back. Installed new plugs and tried fuel system cleaner, it ran better, but still the code returns. Finally I cleaned the throttle body and performed an idle re-learn. So far the P0420 code went away. Today P0463 code is pending, the check engine light is not on yet. I am hoping that like a post I read on this forum it is just because the fuel is low, (finishing up another system fuel cleaner cycle), at about 1/8th tank and the low fuel light is not on yet that the pending code will clear after fill up. It seems like the tank level readings are still accurate. Next day, P0463 went away as soon as I filled the gas tank. New day, new code, P0031, time to replace the upstream O2 sensor.
